Accuracy vs Emotion in Vocal Harmony

Point 3 is so ingrained... I felt like a one-man crusader at a former church praise team, calling out people who referred to the vocalists as "the singers" instrumentalists as "the musicians." AAARGH! We are all musicians! And my role there was playing the bass guitar! Thank you and keep up the good work.

A choir with low energy but high accuracy is boring, I agree, but a choir with high energy and low accuracy with pitch and rhythm just isn’t going to sound good. Personally, I’d rather hear the boring choir than the one that doesn’t know the notes, rhythms, or words. I’ve seen choirs that were super energized, but they didn’t know the pitches or the rhythms and it was really hard to listen to.

I think the point being made is about the priority of connection & emotion vs precision, rather than energy vs basic competence. Rhythm & pitch are vital to express music but they perhaps shouldn't be the priority during the performance or later stages of rehearsal.
