I love that the, "Protagonist loses himself to blind rage" is usually a good thing. They typically beat up the threat effortlessly in a nice fight scene. But in this case, it's the opposite. Izuku keeping himself calm and managing his quirks was his only advantage against 75% Shigaraki. But once he loses himself to blind rage, he instantly becomes straight forward and predictable with his attacks. To the point that he instantly gets grabbed. Luckily, AFO wanted to steal OFA. Because if he didn't, Deku would literally be dust right about now.

Completely agree. I can see this being a problem in later seasons as (I assume) his rage grows. Until at some point it's too much and he goes into a training arc to control it

And that’s one of the things that makes me love Horokoshi’s writing in the series. He takes typical Shounen aspects and does something interesting and different with it. Here’s some examples. 1. Deku gives into blind rage but instead of that rage helping him pummel his enemy like usual protagonists, it actually gives an advantage to the enemy to exploit and almost takes his power 2. Usually the protagonist gets a flashback of their origin to help push their limits and achieve their goals. But instead, Horokoshi gives that to the antagonist to push himself and achieved his goal of getting Aizawa out of the way. Just some small things like that makes me love the series.

Goes to show just how good AFO is. Hell, a real life version of him, minus the powers, and plus the added grit of realism (i.e. severe pain from getting his face melted off and limited mobility due to his life support systems) he'd still easily take control of any room.

@JakeThePancake Black Whip doesn't specifically react to his anger. Rather, by no longer focusing on control and just unleashing pure, unfocused power, it becomes a dangerous weapon. Like, say, removing the hose from a fire hydrant. Sure, there's a TON of water coming out, but it has no direction or nozzle to actually utilize the pressure appropriately. It's the exact same thing that Midoriya has been doing for the ENTIRE series with the raw power storing portion of One for All. When he's in control, he can manage his output. But when he stops focusing on it, he usually hurts himself, even if it has more raw power in the hit.

Because rage Deku simply sucks. Seriously, this show has established time and again that losing his control isn't a good thing. As a consequence he keeps failing to save anyone and becomes easy to predict and manipulate. Hell, this is exactly the reason why AfO won against All Might back in the day.

Everything Shigaraki does in this arc was terrifying. When he first wakes up and destroys that city with Decay scared the life out of me when I thought about it. Everyone in that city within however many KM started crumbling and died before they ever had a chance to even react. Just nearly instant death on a tremendous scale.

Deku is always a coool, calculated person, he is always tactical and methodical in his fighting and likes to analyze how his opponent fights, using his strengths to his advantage and striking at his opponents weak points. To send HIM is into a blind rage takes some doing because one of his defining traits is his ability to not lose his head no matter who he is up against. He never takes the brute force approack unless he believes it is tactically his best way to win or save someone.

That was the whole point of this scene:Deku, blind raged, buffed an useless quirk in that situation. It was not a melee combat, and he made a damn helmet to charge versus the guy who touching him would stole the OFA (instead buff OFA core and keep the speed, zoning him like until then). A stupid decision for not thinking straight.

Two things: 1. The story takes place in Japan. Police in Japan are only supposed to use guns in extremely specific circumstances; it makes headlines in Japan if a cop pulls out a gun, let alone actually uses it. 2. Guns wouldn't have helped one bit against Shigaraki, Gigantomachia, the nomus, etc., who were all the main problems and the main reasons that things got out of control. Guns would not have helped at all.

Losing control of his power isn't a good thing. Time and again MHA has established that whenever someone loses control, they fail to be someone's hero. That is why All Might lost to AfO, that is why Ingenium was targeted by Stain, that is why Deku couldn't save Bakugo. In this instance, AfO nearly accomplished his goal of taking OfA away.
