Very useful information Bill. I got the Flashback II and I do take great advantage of those delay intervals. I'm purdy shure I used dotted eighths in the delay in my recent ambient guitar post. Keep up the good work!

Very cool! One way to explain a dotted 8th is that it extends the 8th note by halfway, making it 3/4 of a quarter note. So it actually sounds at the halfway point between two 8th notes. And if you're tapping it, you would tap on the "one" and "a." So in other words... "ONE* - e - and - A* - two..." (* and caps where the taps would be) I used to have SO much trouble figuring out how to tap a dotted 8th on delays with no subdivision options haha

So using the graphtech acoustic and hexpander piezo set up I aim to obviously create acoustic tracks but moreover, I aspire to lay down tracks through the midi ghost to play strings and french horns etc. I was thinking of using a Helix line 6 floor pedal as the base for my kit, but am wondering what I would need to get the midi orchestral sounds? Any thoughts?

I love the quarter plus dotted eight feel, mainly with stereo delays for some parts. Although, I wish we had more possibilities with double delays, such as being able to choose different compound patterns.

You might want to check out the Flashback Triple delay. It has more subdivision options to apply to its 3 delays. You can get pretty complex results!

Nice tip Bill, I have and adore the TC Alter Ego X4. I've been messing around with some toneprints trying to achieve different subdivisions. Also, sometime I have much fun using a second delay after it, with different tempo just to screw it up a bit more haha

Question, I have the FB2 and was wondering if you’ve been able to get the tap tempo mode to work? I have the mxr tap tempo switch and it doesn’t seem to be working. But on the tc demo of this pedal they are clearly using the mxr tap tempo w/ the fb2. Any thoughts?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 жыл бұрын
I've not used a an external switch, but - did you turn tap tempo using the TonePrint editing software? I just saw that requirement in the user guide.

can u make it clear ..usually what bpm does quarter note and dotted 8 has?
@mpmd92
@mpmd92 5 жыл бұрын
K7 Yhk it doesn’t matter. If you play to the bpm you set, then the repeats on the delay will happen in relation to that tempo: on every beat with the quarter note setting and on every 3rd 16th note with the dotted eight setting. If that doesn’t make sense to you look up how note duration are organized what’s a quarter note, an eight note... :)

Do you happen to know the correlation between BPM and milliseconds for delays?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 4 жыл бұрын
60000/BPM = delay time in ms.
@Ottophil
@Ottophil 4 жыл бұрын
neil groves bmp is beats per minute. Millisecond is 1/1000 of a second
@druariel
@druariel 2 жыл бұрын
Best to take an example: 60 bpm is 1 bps. One sec is 1000ms. So a 60bpm tempo requires a 1000ms delay to match it. Digital delays can easily do a 1000ms delay but analog delays would be challenged by that. For a 100 bpm tempo we get one beat every 60/100 second, which is 0.6 sec, which is 600ms. For a 120 bpm pace we get one beat every 60/120second, which is 0.5 sec or 500 ms. So 60 divided by tempo gives you time in seconds, times 1000 gives it in milliseconds.

Haven't explored them all but, at least in my collection, the prize for most subdivision options on a single knob goes to the TC Flashback Triple Delay - www.tcelectronic.com/Categories/Tcelectronic/Guitar/Stompboxes/FLASHBACK-TRIPLE-DELAY/p/P0CKT

Hey, Bill, don't you think the flashback repeats are robotic and percussive? I'd like to buy a Tiple Flashback (I like a lot many options it has), but from the youtube videos I noticed this thing... Can you confirm or deny it? Thanx! ^___^
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 жыл бұрын
I am not exactly sure what you mean by robotic and percussive. I would definitely not describe the delay repeats that way. I would use the terms "pristine" and "beautiful" - I love the sound! Here's a playlist of 25 of my videos that feature the pedal. Listen to a few and let me know if any sound like you describe: kzbin.info/aero/PLseB5HzFJKVzcqGQvqW2zV7nuJRMGNB4q

There are many articles about exact delay settings (he used 2 delays to get the effect), but in general, the dotted eighth subdivision should get you into "run like hell" territoriy.
