I’m primarily a Delta flyer but one thing I admire about United is their explanations for delays; both on the app and from the gate agent. Knowing why a flight is delayed gives me piece of mind and makes the travel experience more tolerable. Transparency can go a long way to helping all passengers! I really hope Ed Bastian implements this on Delta soon.
@AquariusTurtle2 жыл бұрын
I'm not defending Delta or United but I can give you some inside perspective... the reasons for delays are complex. It's usually some form of Reason 1A --> Reason 2A + Reason 2B ---> Reason 3A + Reason 1A ---> Reason 4A + Reason 1A. You could create a big branch diagram. There's two problems: A) how do you track each of these reasons? B) how do you decide what to tell the passengers? Every airline has this exact same problem.
@_w_w_2 жыл бұрын
You are falling for the trap! UA give you a reason, but it's not always the same reason or right reason. Having dealt with IROPs on both, DL still does a better job at handling disruptions... especially for frequent flyers. Knowing a reason doesn't really help! The airlines are keeping their birds in the air almost at all times, so UA could claim "weather"... if it happened several flights ago and caused a cascaded delay. Given the birds are always in the air, you can technically claim "weather" for any delays as you can always trace back and find a mission that was impacted by weather. What we need in the US is consumer protection laws like EU to stop all the non-sense of made up excuses just to get out of compensating passengers.
@leflores912 жыл бұрын
@@_w_w_ Somethings that cause delays shouldn’t be released to the public. At least not on the spot, unless the hire ups of the airline say so. Not all passengers understand the inner workings of the airline industry, so they’ll wave off any explanation as meaningless.

I had an experience with a delay just last Saturday. I was trying to get to BOS from SLC, connecting through AUS. The AUS flight out of SLC was delayed due to a pilot shortage. This was going to cause us to miss our connecting flight. Luckily, our amazing gate agent was able to rebook us on a direct flight to BOS leaving only a few hours later. We had no issues getting seats together for 3 of us, due to a second amazing gate agent. I should note, this was on Delta; they have caught a lot of negative publicity lately. However, I am a returning customer of theirs, and will absolutely continue to be after this experience. 5 stars!

Hi Jeb, great video as always. I work at the Frankfurt Airport and trust me, as a employee it is such a hard time for us as well. I always understand the passengers which are frustrated, but sadly some of them are the ones, who start to attack the staff verbally and even sometimes physically. We had a flight from Chicago midway to Norfolk that was scheduled for 9: 45 but was first delayed by baggage from a connecting flight. We began to push back but then it suddenly stopped. The tug apparently broke a pin or something on the landing gear while pushing back so we had to wait some more. An inspector came and we finally got in the air, but our flight was delayed by more than an hour and we got into Norfolk at 1 am. Luckily we found a taxi driver to take us to our hotel at like 3 am but is was a rough night-or should I say morning. This all happened around the end of June.

Hi Jeb and Suzanne, I'm sorry you experienced delays at my home airport of EWR. It tends to get very busy and on my regular drives, it seems like the Newark Airport area is more congested than usual these days. I'm glad you eventually made it to Norway. I'd like to offer some feedback: As an amateur filmmaker, to me it seems like certain portions of your recent videos -- particular some of the "Talking Heads" shots have an artificial shallow depth of field effect added. It looks similar to the "Portrait" presets on certain smartphones. I might be in the minority but to me, instead of adding a cinematic feel, it feels unnatural and distracting. For example, the "Talking Head" shot of Susanne at 5:12. The edges are unnaturally soft (like the edges of her hair), almost as if everything is out of focus apart from her nose area. The background is almost indistinguishable and I feel a lot of good detail is lost. Another example is 4:50. It's possible my eyes are just deceiving me and it was just the conditions, lighting, and distance that made the shot look that way. However, if this is something that you have enabled or added in post, would you consider disabling it or perhaps weakening the effect? Please don't take this as me being negative. At the end of the day, I love your channel and will continue to support. I want nothing but the best for the channel and I'm only trying to offer some humble constructive criticism. Between now and the next time, see ya in the sky! Edit: I want to add that I am not opposed to shallow depth of fields and pull focus shots at all! I think if done right, they can make for some really beautiful and amazing shots. I do it often myself with my cinema lenses. I am specifically talking about digital artificial depth of field effects in the shot or added in post, which is really an image analyzing algorithm softening/blurring objects in the frame in the backend.

He doesn't have a separate job. Travel is his job and this looks to be a leisure trip so a delay isn't a big deal. If he was one of the other passengers, either a business traveler who couldn't be delayed, or someone traveling for family emergency like illness or funeral... then come back and tell us if they have no reason to be upset. I'm a frequent business traveler, and I can assure you that delays can cause huge real-world problems, like missed connection, missed business meetings, or missed appointments that cannot be rescheduled. Before you judge someone for being upset, go figure out why... His reviews are positive but started to become like Sam's - they are no longer reflective of the real world situations.

I made a trip to Frankfurt on United in business class on a 777-300. The seat I had (1A) was far and away the best I’ve had. Newark is always crowded in the evening, and we were an hour late because of a weather delay for the incoming flight. I do think that gate management at Newark could be improved, having sat on the ground after landing for 2 hours on a domestic flight, but it’s important to remember that things are still readjusting since the beginning of the pandemic.

Newark is now undergoing major construction of terminals and somewhat a change in layout, especially at terminal C, which will make things easier, but it’s a space-constrained airport that’s grow. way past its intended capacity, with cargo ops taking up a huge chunk. I've gotten spoiled watching the videos of first class on airlines like Emirates , Air France, and other Asian and European airlines where flying First Class is a luxurious experience. Then we come to American companies like American, Delta, and United, and their First Class generally falls way short of the foreign carriers, often not even coming close to their Business Class service. The US airlines look like the bean counters had carte blanche control over interior decor. There was a time when airlines like Pan Am and TWA were known for their luxurious First Class experience, but those days appear long gone. I tilt my hat to you, Jeb, for being more diplomatic that I am. I worked for airlines back in the 80s and 90s and do give the flight crews great respect. Day after day, they manage to work the front lines and work hard with a smile on their face and concern for their passengers, even on those days where passengers are irate because of late departures, delays, and even cancelled flights. The airlines don't like to have those problems or delay flights as it costs them money and passenger good will, but it's better to delay a flight than to end up with passengers spread across the landscape.

Your wife is absolutely correct, what I really appreciate about United and the app is just how much information they provided you with. Even here 8:07 is a detailed explanation and even an apology.

spot on comment. Indeed, frustration amounts to delayed passengers because they're kept in the dark. I used to be a gate attendant and kept the passengers always in the loop with up-to-date info on why their flight is delayed, they appreciated it so much, that no one was 'hangry' after a more than 3-hour delay. They just want to know

I also flew through Newark to go to Edinburgh also on the 757 (one of the best aircraft) Our flight on the 27th of May from Sarasota had to hold for about 90 minutes leaving us a 25 minute connection. We barely made it on, and sat on the plane for an hour to wait for other passengers. I will say, United is always great about delay updates and even telling other passengers to wait and allow connecting passengers to disembark first.

Hahaha! The 757s are great aircraft on Atlantic crossing and LA to Hawaii. This would be the aircraft that I would come down to from the 767s or 777s to have narrow body aircraft to fly the long-haul flights.

Just this morning! On American Airlines we were scheduled to fly from AUS to ORD when for no reason, our flight was canceled! I’m at the airport, preparing to get back on AA to finish the journey. I’m very disappointed in American Airlines, who was actually one of my favorites, so sorry, AA, I’m not happy with you.

G'day Jeb, great video. Good to see that you and Suzanne (Apologies if I misspelled your wife's name.) handled the delayed flight well and that you guys arrived at your destination in good spirits. On a side note, I'm not sure why, it could be the amazing food in your videos or just timing but I almost always finding myself either hungry after watching your videos or eating whilst watching your videos. Great video, keep up the great work.

Does a 28 hour delay count! Flying with United, from Newark to London Heathrow at the end of June. Flight cancelled late at night/early hours of morning, all hotels booked. Ended up on camp bed to get two hours sleep. Only flight available was to Edinburgh, Scotland the following evening, 24 hours after initial flight, but that flight was delayed by 5 hours! Then had to catch two trains taking a further 4 hours to get back home. My two fellow travellers had to get to Heathrow via Vienna, Austria. Has completely put me off flying for a long time.

On a recent Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Atlanta, the airline did not put my daughter's wheelchair on the plane, even though we did everything they told us to do. It's been several days and the wheelchair still hasn't landed in Atlanta yet. Thankfully we do have backup, still! It's a wheelchair folks! People kinda need those things!

At least you made it. We were going to Brittany and Normandy after a stop in Stuttgart to see family. Our incoming British Airways had a weather diversion to BOS. They lied to everyone in the BA lounge about whether the flight was going to be cancelled (literally from 8pm until midnight). At midnight they cancelled the trip and told everyone they had absolutely zero information on when - or whether - everyone would be rescheduled. We were told to wait for emails or texts. Long story short? BA couldn't get us to Stuttgart until 7 days later (this was an AA code share and AA emphatically said they could NOT use any other carrier than BA). At that rate, with the rental car reservation gone and the other hotel reservations toast, we cancelled the trip.

There are several KZbin channels that are for ATC. They are usually from JFK and Newark. They can be rather funny at times. I can only imagine the conversations to get your plane to the gate. 🤦🏼♀️😂 Sorry you had such a delay, but y’all handled it well.

First summer delay was beginning of June OAK to DTW 13 and a half hour delay overnight.
