As someone who has lived in Birmingham for most of their life, it was a great treat to see a train video centered around my home city and state. You lads did a stellar job with the video, keep up the great work and thank you.✨❤

I grew up in Irondale just 4 blocks South of downtown where your camera was set. A convenient bicycle ride to watch the trains after school. Just on the other side of the tracks you will find the Irondale Cafe which was the inspiration for the book “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” written by Birmingham native Fannie Flagg, which was later made into the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes”. Later in life I worked with Fannie at WBRC-TV Ch 6 in Birmingham where she was a co-host on a daily talk show and I was a broadcast engineer. This video brings back many memories of living around Birmingham and watching trains. Thank you for your work producing these excellent videos! Stay safe!

I need to make it back to Birmingham sometime, I’m 50 but was raised in Birmingham as a kid. We owned the property 14th ave south that is now townhomes, just below home wood. Hill growing up, my father use to take me to the shops in irondale numerous times he visited friends that irked there. I was fortunate enough to watch 611 and 1218 being restored in the late 80’s, awesome experience I will never forget. Also remember Fife’s restaurant, that was good eating back then! Awesome video❤

It’s great to hear about your memories of Birmingham - I’m sure the city has changed a lot since you were a kid but it’s still a special place. - Drayton

I railfanned Birmingham twice over this last summer, and both days were fantastic! Sloss Furnaces is the best spot, as you get the convergence of the CSX and NS tracks, the NS line up past the BNSF area, and decent train speeds. There’s also a bonus CSX branch line that goes right across the entrance to the historic site (and the 5+ NS tracks). BNSF in Bham is ex-Frisco, NS is ex-Southern and ex-Central of Georgia, the main CSX is ex-L&N (and the oldest line in the town), and the CSX branch line is ex-SCL (possibly AB&C). One thing to note is that Birmingham often sees leasing power on CSX. The local that uses the branch line often has leasing power, and at least one major CSX train uses WAMX power.

Thank you for documenting these trains in the Birmingham, Alabama area, Drayton! I enjoyed watching the CSX, Norfolk Southern and Amtrak trains in this video. Your video shows trains and locations that most of us will never have a chaNce to see in person. (Posted on 5 December 2024 at 1540 CST.)

That switch to the Amtrak station is so sharp that the marker light shows through the door and they have to close off all the doors to prevent people from getting crushed in between the cars.

Hey there Drayton! This is a wonderful video I enjoyed all of it and so many awesome shots!! You are invited to Railfan Day that me and my fellow friends are having at Walton, VA on the Norfolk Southern Christiansburg/Pulaski District where every train comes every 30 minutes to an hour eastbound and westbound. You can invite anyone you’d like to bring, me and my friends are big fans of your channel and it would be awesome to meet you! 😎

That was poor planning by CSX 129 to block Amtrak from leaving in B'ham when it stopped for NS 346. Amtrak would have run on the NS. I've shot B'ham quite a bit. Great video.
