What is the flow temp set for it? And does it run continuously or does it come on and off more like a boiler? They've offered us one over the Daikin and I just don't know what to do, cause we do need planning permission which could delay things by months.

My Octopus Daikin 7kW was designed for 50⁰c@-2⁰ext. SCOP heating stated 3.4 and DHW 1.7. In practise we used weather compensation and have achieved 3.75 heating and 2.5 DHW. In Dec 22 we found house was too warm running at 50⁰c . Our weather comp is set to 50⁰c@-15⁰ext /27⁰c @18ext.

I've had an Octopus survey and need a 7kW heat pump. Like you I'm holding out for a Cosy, however, as I need a 7kW device I could be waiting a long time! Re solar diverter, I have an Eddi but I don't divert. I heat the water with gas at 7p/kWh and export excess solar at 15p/kWh. I'm on Agile and the Eddi knows what the half hourly rates are. When the price drops to zero it automatically switches on an heats the water.

I'm at a similar stage to you but need a Daikin 11kW pump. Noise calc to the neighbours bedroom means I need planning permission. I think Octopus could have helped more with necessary drawings and guidance on using the natiunal plan!ing portal. And of course they could use quieter heat pumps. Fewer than expected rad changes so I got them to throw in 2 years maintenance. I'd have got it anyway for piece of mind, £9pm is the cheapest on market too.

We live in France and have an air to air heat pump. Daikin R32. It is serviced annually. They check for gas leakage and the correct gas pressure. The contract also includes emergency call-out priority. The two interior radiators are chemically cleaned to kill bacteria. This is not Legionella. There is no legionella risk as there is no water involved. For us the service contract is good value.

I'm about a month or two ahead of you, Nic. I have had an Octopus Daikin 4kW system installed in my daughter's newish (10 years old) 3 bed detached house in the midlands. Microbore (10mm) pipework to and from radiators, to a broader pipework core system. I was happy with the survey and install. Minimal disruption and the system is now in and running. It's quiet enough, and it just gets on with it. The cooler rads take a bit of getting used to - is it on, yet? (yes, it is). The total cost before BUS was around £8,200 (we paid £700!) HOWEVER.... What is the one, single number that all heat pump nerds talk about? Of course, COP! And this figure is NOWHERE to be seen on the diagnostic screen, or the app. Not nowhere. OK, there are some very crude and frankly suspect (rounded to the nearest kWh) energy use figures, so I *guess* you might be able to work something, but the numbers don't add up to me. The app should be bragging about the COP in large red letters, on the home screen. But no. Clearly, we are not in winter, now, but even last month on average the system (reports) consuming about same amount of energy each day heating water, as it does space heating. That's just nuts. Example. Hot water tank is 180L Let's assume it's FULLY cold at 12C, and the heat pump warms it to about 45C (33C rise), with a COP of 3 (pessimistic side). Then the electrical energy use should be (180L x 4200 J/C/L x 33C rise)/(3600000 J/kWh x 3 COP) or about 3.3kWh. Worst case! Totally cold cylinder. Yet the available figures suggest 17kWh on hot water alone, this month (1-6 May), some days when there has been minimal hot water drawn. I will take this up with Octopus on the post-install visit, but I've a feeling that the answer will be, "Yeah, that's how it is." BUT other than that, all good so far. But we won't REALLY know for 9 months... And No, we're not interested in Payback. I'm expecting it to be around cost-neutral. Instead, we're interested in doing the right thing, and doing a tiny, tiny bit to reduce our carbon footprint and maybe, ya-know, help save the planet 'n all. How do you calculate the payback of THAT??
@mattx4253
@mattx4253 3 ай бұрын
You not doing the right thing. Or saving the planet. It will never offset the co2 either. Only if you ignore all the embedded co2 in the production of the equipment you bought and scrapped. You basically spend £7000 of tax payers money which could have been used to feed and home someone homeless. I’m amazed people are so easily brainwashed in to thinking you are doing good. You aren’t. You are just jumping to the tune of the government and making huge profits for green companies selling lies. Also co2 isn’t a problem. It’s actually what life lives on and the earth has had co2 as high as 1400ppm and was totally covered in green.

We've had three quotes from Octopus over the past few months. The first one was for £2,715.50 but was put on hold until we got an EPC for our house. That meant the initial quote expired. We got an EPC 'B' rating and then went back to Octopus for a second quote of £7372.80! Don't understand the difference and could not get a response from Octopus until Nick intervened on our behalf (Thanks!). Was then told to reapply for another quote after the end of April. This one came to £7017.63! How on earth does Octopus come up with such radically different quotes for exactly the same building?

@davideyres955

Seems fair but only 5 years does not given a boiler usually has 10. The main issue is spares after 5 years. No spares means new heat pump and no subsidy. That could be worrying. Because you could be looking at a substantial cost and the possibility of another company not wanting to cover the install.

@jchidley 3 ай бұрын
@@NicolasRaimo Safety checks are crucial for unvented cylinders because if they malfunction, they can explode. Therefore, they are equipped with built-in safety mechanisms, and additional ones are required during commissioning. Only certified individuals are permitted to install these cylinders, as mandated by building regulations. Proper installation ensures that subsequent checks are straightforward. EDIT: plumbers know this as "G3 Certificate"

I wish I could get one of these low octopus quotes. Ours is £6665 after the BUS. I have no idea why it’s so high. Our house has an oil boiler (on the side of the house), which is the same place the heat pump would go, the pipes are sufficiently sized, the oil boiler is also next to the fuse box cupboard, so in my opinion its actually a pretty easy job.

@@NicolasRaimo Just watched that video. Need to measure my pipes then. Suspect they are the smaller ones (8mm?) but its only the pipes that go to the radiators and not the ones in the loft. According to heat geeks if you can run your existing system at 50 degrees without issue then it should be fine but sounds like that might not be good enough for Octopus. I'll check the pipe size and see. Although it all sounds rather complicated and I think there's only 1 (maybe 2) places the heat pump could go so depends on whether they will be ok or not.

Absolute rubbish...I love Octopus and been with them from the beginning as just received my Octopus Pioneer gift package as an early Octopus Go customer...but, I looked into this and to say the touted around £500 (Everything Electric Show) for a heat pump mantra as being disingenuous is an understatement....was quoted £15,000 but reduced to £7,500 with the government grant. Wow, are you serious Octopus 🤔...why would anyone with a perfectly working gas boiler upgrade to this, you'd need to be crazy or had hit the jackpot on the lottery...or are Octopus hoping a lot of boilers break down then some fever would hit you then you'd decide to buy this...I also looked into the Octopus 'Home-To-Grid' as have a Nissan Leaf and fit all the criteria needed except one massive admission by Octopus, the Wall box Quasar 1 is not sold in the UK 😂...it's so ridiculous it's laughable...why have they got this tariff promoting on their website is beyond me...I like what Octopus are trying to do but they're doing it in the wrong way by offering services which are realistically not ready and achievable, YET! 😅
