Delbert is a priceless US musician. I've followed him for years... seen him several times inperson.... absolutely great stories in his songs. I only recently discovered "Lone Star Blues" and i gotta say, it is one of his best.

This is real country. I don't know why Delbert isn't one of the biggest and richest stars in all of country music.
@75503755036 жыл бұрын
I think I know why: 30 years in both Rock & Country revealed the nasty truth: He's too R & B for Rock - too Country for Rock. Plus Delbert sounded black - way back in the mid- 60's- long before video could be reassured he was white. Elvis had the same problem until his appearance on Ed Sullivan's show. The parents of America feel didn't mind after that. Didn't mind their daughters wanting to F him & they sons wanting to BE him.

Delbert was my Moms favorite singer. She would beg me to listen to him. Once she passed I inserted her CD 's including this one. Now I get why she knew I would love him. Miss the hell out of her. This song reminds me so much of her.

Delbert is one of the masters of Texas music, I'd say up there Willie and Doug Sahm, primarily because Delbert, Willie and Doug are/were so at home and conversant with several of the essential Texas styles, both country and blues. Delbert is a world-class harmonica player. In this video, besides Kinky, I saw Rodney Crowell and Leroy Parnell. I met Leroy because my friend (Leroy's little brother) blew harmonica with Leroy and his band in a little cinder block roadhouse beer joint between Bryan and Caldwell in 1983. Delbert and Lee Roy have recorded some great songs together.

Two facts. Delbert has been around a long time cause he taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica. And number two, he was the driving force behind a 60's group called the Ron-Dels who had a hit called IF YOU REALLY WANT ME TO, I'LL GO. He's the man for sure. Love that old hard core country.

He actually gave Lennon some hints on breathing. Still. His voice speaks for itself. I’m 72 and still listen. He’s retired now. Sad.

I am in this video at 3:17 red shirt, white hat. Delbert was the coolest dude you would ever want to meet. Theresa Earnhardt is in it too Leroy Parnell is showing her how to play guitar. Suzy Bogguss and Pam Tillis sort of hung out together. Kix Brooks just sat at the bar and didn't speak to anyone. Leroy, Billy, and myself (I'm a nobody) hung out and told jokes and laughed our asses off. Turns out Leroy is Delbert's cousin so he was having a field day teasing Delbert.
