Thanks to Saturday Night Live for introducing the world to Delbert McClinton back in 1979. While he was a regional star for many years by then, folks like me never heard of him until that show. My response was to immediately go buy two of his LP’s. I’ve been a fan ever since.

My dad loved this song. I can remember him listening to it and getting goosebumps in the evenings. He’s been gone almost 20 years and this song makes me feel like he was just here a moment ago.

I heard this wonderful song by Delbert in Mexican climates several years ago. And until today I did not know who sings it so fantastically. From today, thanks to my journalist friend who played it today in his broadcast, I already know and know the title. World Championship. A wonderful breakup song, great melody, emotional lyrics, beautiful guitar solo. 3m above the sky. Delbert, the great champion.🙂🎸👍🎵🎵❤👏👏🥂🍒

We saw Del in ‘93 innThe Apple. He’s real. He’s the definition of American blues. He sings life in this country much akin to Merle Haggard. Two philosophers of the common man. He sings and performs in such a relaxed manner that the emotions are felt so dearly....

This is one if my favorite songs now, heard it on FM 96 other night driving down the highway. Had to look it up to hear again. The lyrics, his voice, the Spanish sound, even the video is perfect. I told my new boyfriend when looking towards the woman next door, it's not Rita. She's gone. We laugh
