My classic Austin Mini has chip basket headlamp protectors. They have bendy stainless clips that bolt into headlamp surround and the chip grille clips into the bendy stuff, three points around circumference. Easy to pop off when needed.

Far and away, best way to remove a stuck fastener is heat, let cool & shock it. I see people heat and try when it’s glowing hot. No, just let it cool. Not waiting for it to cool is only using half of the potential “help” to break it loose.

He's not using stainless and for the fix is creating a nasty bodge job. Stainless can easily be sourced from a local scrap yard for bits like that. What he's created will dribble rust, regardless of finish. Even if he doesn't have tig for finer welding, he could use stick. I use stainless stick rods on a lot of tasks and it works. I think his brackets will look like a flat 'Z' when he goes over the first bump.

Think I would cut the two side holes on the light guard and make them slots, that way I can take the bottom bolt out and loosen the side bolts and slide the light guard off. you should be able to loosen 1 side, slide out the bracket, tighten it back up and then loosen the other side to hopefully keep the light alignment and you would not see that the design had changed.

It looks to me like he didn't take the cutting disc thickness into consideration when he modified the chip pan headlight guard. Surely you'd want the two parts sitting flush? I tried Del's method of marking the centre of a broken stud, but I found throwing a fuckin' dart from the other side of the room to be more accurate.

Tbh there is no need to remove that light cover for cleaning. If he truly cleaned his bikes he would know to use a soft brush to allow the bristles to get the hard to reach areas. With this concept he might aswell make all parts fairings and them all quick release, however let's face it he never cleans his bikes properly

Absolutely love the bahco plier wrenches they are one of my go to tools must admit I've got a few sets of those sockets with teeth made by welzh werkzeug and especially the impact sockets are great for what I do, but I'd rather castrate myself than by any overpriced under quality sealey sockets ever

Some people who don't have a clue on how to remove seized studs out end up trashing the clamped casting with big hammers ect , anyone with half a brain knows to drill out the centre of the stud to reduce the pressure LOL

The light guard on my R1200GS is held on ith four R clips, ten seconds and its off. No screws no bots no Fucking about but in truth I use a pressure washer so never take the guard off.
