love the touch of blue/turquoise on the spring with the blacks and grays. Unsure of the paint scheme planned, but additional mild touches of that colour would be fantastic. Looking great as always Del!
@Moonfleet41

Hi Jamie, i have a really cool paint scheme planned, not too radical, but it will still be the crowning glory and bring the bike together, you're right, we will need a subtle accent of that turquoise elsewhere on the bike to bring it together... Thanks for your support, its much appreciated mate... Del.

Hi Del, I’d been thinking that the tail looked a bit strange and also thought about what I would like to see. Didn’t come up with an answer but nice to hear you and others think similar. Can’t wait to see what you settle on. It’s all too exciting mate.🏍🏍👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Mike, thats kind of you to say, we appreciate the support.. I have no idea what it will look like yet, but ill build the new tail from scratch and wont be using existent bike tails as thats a bit Frankenstein for me.. time will tell, and it'll be a great challenge to make it look right..

Gained another subscriber. Watched a few of your videos of late. Nice to see someone as meticulous as me when it comes to rebuilding/modifying things. Recently took me well over 2 hours just to fit some heated grips. Went a bit OTT with the cable routing, but by taking the time, I’m happy it’s done right. The way that every job should be done. Keep up the good work!

Dan goon: I did think about th possibility of using donor bike tails for about 2 seconds flat, then discounted it , as it just make yer bike look too Frankenstein, like a cobble together of parts, and it becomes the first thing people point out and shout out "oh look R1 tail piece" - want this bike to be unique and one of a kind, so gonna design and build the tail unit from scratch so it's totally unique - thanks for buddy, really appreciate your kind support...

@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Partly expense buddy, and partly because I wanna do as much as possible myself, have also used this Tough Black for many years and once it's fully cured, it's almost as tough as powder coat, plus if you damage it, you can sand back and re-paint it, which is not so easy with powder coat !

Could do that buddy, you're right, but thinking of, maybe, a whole new shape and maybe half the length it currently is, so just gonna start from scratch ... plus I don't wanna butcher that tail as it took a long time to make and in my own humble opinion, it's a work of art, whether it's art people appreciate or not, doesn't matter, but it is unique and one of a kind and may use it on something else some day !

Bike is looking great and you are certainly steaming along a.t.m. Q: why are you using a copper based anti seize on all your nuts/bolts that aren't really subjected to any heat but more the elements. Surely a lithium based water proof grease would be more suited in these places.
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 6 жыл бұрын
When I used to work as a mechanic years ago copper grease was all we ever used, we never used any thread lock either and only torqued wheels :)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcus.. the heatproof nature of copper and graphite based lubricants is not the only reason to use them right?, they are also pretty water resistant, and stay where you put them.. and if you look close mate,, i only put it on the foot control shafts, and the foot peg pins.. i didn't use it on any of the nuts or bolts, on the bolts i used medium blue threadlock because they are all high grade stainless, polished bolts, and need locking into alloy threads as they don't stay put like zinc bolts... bu im sure you know that .. thanks for your kind support too mate, yes indeed, steaming through this, and looking forward to getting back to fabrication.. take care. .Del.

What a lot of screwing! 😁 Great to see the bits coming back together. I wonder if one didn't have a sander like that to thin a bolt if it could be spun in a drill, lathe style and a file used or would that be too ghetto 😂😁 looking forward to see what you come up with for the back end. Have a great day Penny and Del! 💚
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ollie, yes you could do that, the file would take you a long time, you could still use a sander, or a disc, held against it with a fine paper on it, but either way, use what you have, just don't make it smaller than the M6 bolt you need it to be...!

Hi del, just a quick question regarding your home made press you used for the swinger bearings. Im going to be doing the headstock on my 990. Were did you get the washers and do you know what size they are mate. Cheers
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate.. i 'made' those discs myself.. i used some 4mm thick steel plate, drilled a 10mm hole for the threaded bar, then once i cut them square, i then cut the corners off to make them 'hex' shaped, then finally ground them on the belt sander until they were round... that way you can make them any size you need to, you could use the bearing you want to install as the guide width, or maybe a bit bigger so they dont slip off... Hope that helps you out mate.. good luck with yours.. Del.

Norton dominator tail piece would look good.

Yes indeed, but trying not to copy other bikes, or fit something that people will point at and immediately say 'oh, Norton tail then!' lol - wanna keep it unique buddy, so gonna create it from scratch from steel, and BTW if I was gonna git a tail from a different bike, it would probably be either Gixxer1000, K7 or if you could find one, an MVF4, but they would still be recognised from another bike... cheets buddy, thanks for watching, really appreciate it !

Exciting seeing things coming together so quickly now. Good to put the Harley hero blobs to use on this build. I’ve just bought stainless bolts for my engine covers, should I be thread locking those as well then?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, probably not needed on things like engine covers, but certainly anything safety related like frame and chassis parts, and of course, brakes.. ! just torque them in to the correct factory spec, and maybe keep an eye on them mate. you know, stick a socket on them after a few weeks and see if they are still tight, if they have loosened at all, then stick a dab of threadlock on the end..!

Where did you source that rear sprocket Del? One of those would look bad ass on my ZZR. Oh and that fighter is starting to look like a factory fresh bike. Total respect man!

Hi Ian, and thanks mate, thats very kind of you and praise indeed, because i do want it to look like a factory bike once its done.. The sprocket is a 'Sunstar' from Wemoto.com , maybe call them up and see if they do a black one for your bike..! you can tell 'em we sent you if you like..lol

You know you want to do a nice skinny little shark fin type tail unit like a proper streetfighter! Show off that sexy rear wheel and all the other effort you have put in! You don't need to tilt it right up, that was a bit cheesey when people used to do that. I remember seeing a nice angry looking ninja in streetfighters magazine a number of years ago that was cool, kind of a vented pointy tail unit

@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, that's the point I won't be bolting on any second hand streetfighter tail, that'll just make it Frankenstein's monster lol - it's exactly what you've said, gonna be a skinny svelte and totally unique one of a kind tail made from scratch, hopefully, from steel and designed mainly to show off that bonkers rear wheel! Thanks mate...

I feel somewhat disappointed to hear your changing the bodywork again, I went back and revisited fighter build #77 and to be honest having followed you right from day 1 I had some reservations as you were building each part of the body work up but when you finally finished the body work and done the video reveal #77 you could see some really inspirational work in what you had achieved and now it feels like your bowing down to other peoples opinions and preconceptions of what a street fighter should be. I know this is your project and your striving for perfection as you should, and who knows what you have in mind might be better but I can not help feeling reservations that the new back end isn't going to have the same overall impact the current one has and will no longer fit in with the belly pan for instance and then that will end up getting changed and before you know it it's gonna end up looking like every other street fighter on the road, which leads me back to my original point this bike was so cool because it was so different! Sorry if this sounds like a rant, it's just my honest and humble opinion.

Hi Jay, not a rant at all mate, all valid points, and i know exactly why you feel that way.. there have been a lot of people that have said the tail is too big, and im not bowing to those comments mate, i always knew it could have been more svelte and graceful, but it was a finished shape, and no point in butchering it to change that... Putting it on the bike now it has a very immediate look of a TL1000R, or Busa, with the fairing removed. , and both of those bikes have heavy looking fairings at the front, which, once removed, make the tail look bigger.. i wanted this bike to have a "front heavy" look, a bit like 'Butch" the dog from Tom & Jerry ! and its not looking like that much at the moment... Trust me mate, the belly pan is not negotiable, its staying no matter what else i do, the same goes for the nose cone... and i will use both of those shapes to help me design and create the right shape for the new tail. a shape that will match in and be as impressive as the belly pan and nose fairing, one that will complement them... the current tail just doesn't do that for me mate.. Stick with it Jay, its going to be the biggest challenge of the build yet, and im determined to get it right.. Thanks for your support mate, all much appreciated.. Del.

Oh blimey, I knew someone would say that...! Have to answer in all seriousness mate, we are trying to keep the garage evolving and buying small machines and tools, I have a bench grinder and I could mount a wire wheel on it, it's just getting round to finding a permanent place to site it, so it's not in the way when not in use !

haha, im with yu mate, whatever it takes to get the job done :) i was thinking for yu though, how about finding a place to mount it and have some kind of lever/clamp to mount it when you need it then unclamp when not needed? its one of them tools that you need but not all the time.
