Excellent prep work Del. My dad was a painter and always said prep work is key to a great paint job. Those little bits all take time, but are key to a great finished product. Penny and you have a great weekend. Cheers

Thank you my friend, good to hear from you... if you take time and prepare carefully, then when you lay on the paint, it usually goes well first time - if you cut corners, then you sometimes have to do it again, which takes even longer! Thank you for watching, all the best, Del

Good stuff. Nice tip re thinner layer on the wheels rim, have to remember that one. I’m looking forward to getting various parts painted but have to wait for the warmer weather as I don’t have a garage. Bought all the Simoniz paints from eurocarparts as they’ve always got a sale online, usually around 35% off

If I was you Del, I would get a grit blaster gun for the compressor, you would prep these in seconds, all back to bare metal too, cheap as chips :) For a few hundred quid you can get a blaster cage too, or just do your work next to a hoover that is switched on, but you can reuse the grit a few times usually.

Question Del. When you paint things and hang them on a wire or your bar, do you pop a spot if paint on the spot it was in contact with the hanger? As I've found a lovely even coat of everything proof paint foiled by the slightest hole in coverage and once the corrosion starts to creep along the bare metal under the edge of that hole in the paint it may as well not be painted... Thanks, builds looking good :)

TH- good point well made buddy, I was luckily painting satin black over satin black, and the bits touching the bar were perfect, so just a little flick over if necessary, and as Stacey said, you can shift them around a little and get to the bare bits if you need to between coats!
@ZingTowPootWerkins
@ZingTowPootWerkins 6 жыл бұрын
No worries, that's what I thought the case would be, its fairly self explanatory, I just didn't realise your parts still had a good black coat there. The mystery has been Scooby Doo'd :) Cheers for the advice,and to Stacey too. And thanks Gary, been my online name for everything since ever, never seems to be taken haha!

Hey Dude.. You know we were talking a few weeks ago about rust removal, well I found another recipe. I was making up some sodium silicate, which is water glass, to make up some internals for a new forge. anyway Sodium Hydroxide, which is the £1 drain killer stuff in powder form, added into a bowl of water. 1litre of water, with 500grams of the drain cleaner from poundland. Make sure its the powder type, usually in a white plastic container. The water will get warm, Stir until all the white powder is mixed in. Wear your mask and glasses just in case. Pop the metal you want to de-rust into the bowl.. leave for 10 mins.. see how its gone.. and use your judgement to see how long to leave. No need to leave in for a week. I noticed the rusty metal bar I was using to stir was nice and clear of rust in 5 to 10 mins. Going to try it again this weekend with some super rusty drill bits and bolts and see how it goes.

I got a question for you I got a issue with my Speedo drive the holder what holds the speedo cable and the drive shaft keeps popping out 🤔 the casing is not cracked and the gear linkages look good but it seems to me it doesn't want to stay seated 😰 so what I was thinking is taking it apart and taking a hammer 😔 and try it tap it down so it stay seated 🤔 but I was wondering do you know the better way ??? and ride safe 😋

lazy boy Rider drives can be held in by a locking screw and some use a circlip to hold the cable in. Hammering will not help. You should try to find a parts list for the drive and that will tell you what is missing.

Hi, loving the vlogs, with your spaying you mention 'tack" and "wet coat", a newbie question, what do you mean? Thanks
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark.. a "Tack Coat" is a very thin layer of paint spray, not fully wet, just so it looks grainy and dusty....just what you may call 'half a coat'... you leave it for just 5 minutes, then it becomes "tacky" and forms a good bond for the next coat so you don't get those dimples or any runs.... and a "wet coat", is exactly that.. its a full, thick layer of spray that goes shiny and liquid... Glad to hear you;re interested mate, get into some practice yourself maybe, you'd be surprised how easy it is after a while... Good luck ..Del.

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
This is pretty good against that.. it cures over a long time, not maybe not so good there. it takes maybe 3 months to fully set.. but then it has a durable stone chip resistant finish, and yeah, ive found it pretty fuel resistant.. but it does need to be fully cured first. if course the cost beats 2 pak paints hands down..!

(P) Hey Del....why did you say this is the boring stuff? I think its rewarding stuff as in short time you have lots of shiny "new" parts for the bike! And they make such a difference to the overall finished bike. Mackie is back on his build too (that car carburetor is crazy but kinda cool) and I've told him that he needs to finish about the same time as you! Once they're done, and painted, and pretty.... would be great to see them both in a joint ride video! So different in style and approach but both dead cool!
@Moonfleet41

Thanks buddy... yeah, its really important once you start to finish things to a high standard that nothing is left untouched or it sticks out like a sore thumb once you start re-assembling it all. Im probably gonna be a long way behind The Mackstar... once this black stuff is all done and lovelt.. im back on the bodywork for osme more changes in design and shape... ill be playin out this year though.. oh yes i will..lol
