Hi Del, I’ve followed your channel for around 3 years and what an impact you’ve made on myself. From fully gaining my Motorbike license to modifying and carrying out servicing and maintenance to my bike. Love the project so far, and I feel I speak for everyone here, we are so truly proud to be a part of this knowledge sharing community you and Penny have managed to build. Keep doing what you’re doing! Have a fantastic Easter Weekend both of you, and again thank you for yet another fantastic video. All the best 👍🏼 Luke.

My word, thank you so much Luke, thats is really kind of you, i was inspired to join KZbin and start making videos by a friend of mine in California, that was almost 10 years ago, and what a roller coaster ride its been... we are really proud of what we have achieved, and of the amazing friends we have made along the way.. its been a bumpy road at times, specially the last 8 months.. but we're determined to ride through it and keep going.. Thank you again for your really kind message, that lifted our Eater for sure.. take care and keep safe.. Del & Pennyx

Great vid again Del as always and it's given me the confidence to modify some pannier brackets so I can have 45L panniers instead of the very small stock 30L panniers that come with the FJR1300. Stick the reg plate at the back of the wheel coming off the swing arm! Personally I'd show off my hard work by keeping it neat and tidy and then you dont have to worry about the wheel buzzing on it too. (You could use your twisted bar to come off the swing arm) 👍👌

Good demonstration of fabrication and metal working. Can I ask why you use cutting compound when using your band saw but not when drilling especially larger drills where they can be seen smoking. Though you know this it would make cutting easier and longer lasting cutting edge on your dill bits

Any idea about weight savings? Or weight adding? Or did you not keep track?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, oh yes indeed... have kept track exactly along the way - before this new direction, I'd saved a total of 25kgs and including that big tail, had added back on 17kgs, but as I'm junking that now, removing the sub-frame altogether, and using a much lighter battery, I have some re-calculations to make to bring it up to date, so it's the first part of the very next video - am fully up-dating the 'build board', taking out all the out-dated information, up-dating the weight, and the build cost to the penny, so Wednesday's videos - all will be revealed!

Oh for sure, its a total POS.. cost me £100 second hand about 8 years ago.. the current equivalent model has more control.. all i have is 3 settings, so i have to use wire speed and "speed of pass" to get the right penetration.. but i see it as a bit of a challenge, if i can weld with this, then some day ill get a better machine, and could make really nice welds that id be happy to leave on show... maybe even weld a frame from scratch.. that'd be a real achievement some day... thanks buddy.. much appreciated.. Del.
@ajh5825
@ajh5825 6 жыл бұрын
Easy Del !! I (and i'm presuming others) have gone out and bought that "POS" based on the fact that i've seen you have one and get really good results. Am making a rack for a top box as my first project and am super pleased with it so far. Despite dissing my tools i always appreciate the inspiration you provide :-)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
ha ha, oops.. that came out wrong..im being unkind to my own welder.. its my fault its a POS now because ive beaten it half to death.. its just worn out buddy.. it was a good welder when i got it 7 years ago... the wire feed stutters, i need a whole new gun, and the fan struggles to cool it if im welding on full power so it starts cutting out due to overheating.. its just had its day mate, they were never intended to be given as much abuse as i give mine... That said, to be fare, it still works fine 90% of the time, and wouldn't have lasted this long if it was poor quality... so slip of the tongue.. my bad mate...apologies.. Good luck with your rack, i hope it rurns out to make you proud, nowt like making something yourself aye.. ! Del :-)

@JasonRobbins71 6 жыл бұрын
Surely if you are gong to use it to form a curve it should have been symmetrical on the bottom cross piece?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Can't make it symmetrical as the middle platform is offset.. it'll work, you'll see, just stick with it ..!! :-)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, im aware of that Anton, but remember this bottom brace takes not only the weight of the finished tail and the battery, but also MY weight, all 12 stone of it, and your suggestion would have put a welded angle in mid air with nothing under it, and that would have required a brace or "web" under it to support it, thus throwing the symmetry back out again.... i have a plan buddy, like i said to Jason, stick with it, you'll see.. Thanks for watching Anton, and have a good weekend.. Del.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Actually Anton... you made me think about this a lot more today, ( i wouldn't have given it any real thought until i got to it later).. and seeing as the shock itself is offset to the left, and it really visible with its bright green/blue spring.. i may bring the undertray back by starting the curve offset to the left so the shock is centered to it.. then pull the curve back to the middle as it goes back.. if that makes sense.. so effectively have a bias to the left right down at the front edge to blend the shock in with the undertray... not sure how ill achieve it yet... but ill work out a way if i think long enough about it... thanks for the nudge buddy.. Del.

Hi. I have a question about welding the base of the side stand on my motorcycle with the fuel tank on with fuel. What kind of precautions should I have? Many thanks
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Joao, if you're welding the base of the side stand, then it's a far way from the tank and as it's fumes that ignite, rather than liquid petrol, then provided the cap is on firmly, you should be safe... but there's NO guarantee, because the tank still has a breather which can emit fumes on a hot day as the air inside the tank expands... but without question mate, if it was my bike, just take the side stand off, put the bike outside and do the welding inside on the bench... if you need to set the angle of the foot you're welding on, then maybe just tack it once, then take it off and finish the welding on the bench...
@MrAnjosam
@MrAnjosam 6 жыл бұрын
Moonfleet41 many thanks. I will have another problem with side stand spring. I have changed skin colour when I had to pull the spring central stand in to place, the amount of force was to much without the right tool. Cheers
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi again Joao, I know what you mean, those springs can be a nightmare...! There's a cool little tool you can make for yourself... take an old fashioned coat hanger, cut about a foot of the wire (the bit along the bottom you hang the trousers on is best), fold it in half so you have a loop one end and then two open ends the other... if you hook the loop round the spring, put the open ends into a pair of mulgrips, nice and tight (it can help to fold them over so they grip firmly) and then with your footpeg, sitting on the ground, you can use the loop to pull backwards on the spring and un-hook it - and obviously you have to do this with the stand in the 'up' position... good luck with it, hope it helps!

Ive been following this build from the start, I'm a big fan of your work... but I must confess that I lost interest once u started putting "round" edges everywhere, its a Streetfighter so it should have "Sharp Lines" anyways hope u don´t use another fuel tank like you said you might. Just a nice seat there would make the bike perfect. a Ducati monster seat, just the seat might make it look nicer. anyways, nice job so far.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vinny. Thanks for your support in following the build, i may cut down the old tail to give me matching curves to follow the fuel tank and keep the overall look right. naturally fighters are pointy these days, but those based on modern bikes have a head start, they are already pointy like modern sports bikes.. but look at the original shape of this bike, it was rounded and curvy, like a Hayabusa.. and i see tiny pointy tails put in Busa fighters, and they just look wrong.. it has to be in keeping with the original parts that remain dont you think?... rest assured, i will; make it a lot slimmer and more svelte.. if i cant make a good looking shape from those tanks, then i may resort to the card board and clay thing.. and create something from scratch... its all new disciplines ive never tried before, so id be keen to learn it and get some skill at it... Thanks again for your input and support Vinny. its much appreciated mate. Del.
