Thank you so much Keith, that's very kind of you... just for the record, this isn't really a build, or even a make over, it's just a beautiful old rare sports bike that's been laid up for 2yrs or more and not started and the owners want it freshened up, the engine run up , fresh oil and filter and brought back to life! Plus other things like, it will need all the calipers re-build, probably chain and sprockets, and I imagine tyres as well ,, looking forward to it, but will be a short series, as we have lots of other projects coming up, short things, making parts and, of course, a new build on the horizon before too long...!

Got a mate with a BMW R90s & a bsa 350 he's just pulled out of his late in-laws garage, stood since 2012, plus a GSXR 400 stood since 1995 with 15,000km on the clock, would be nice to see you get them road worthy! Meanwhile I love the zx7r having a fairly original one myself. Whatever's next I'm sure will be better than that crap on TV! All the best.

Hi Kevin.. thanks for your kind support mate.. Thanks so much Warren, The ZX7-R wont be "finished".. its just going to be "on the road"...thats a different thing, as soon as i can MOT it and ride it then i will.. im paying for insurance on a bike i cannot enjoy.. and that aint right.. so it will still have lots of re-visiting and other upgrades and work done to it in the future going forward.. it sure as hell aint for sale, so the new project after that will be abbreviated with visits back to this one now and again, along with interim servicing and maintenance and repairs.... just garage life ongoing buddy.. .take care chap.. Del.

Moonfleet41 Hey Del, that's a relief to hear that you plan to divide up your time, come to think of it you have done that before, intermittently manoeuvring a Harley upon the ramp, Also with you on the being insured and wanting not to waste it, I just renewed and it was an excersie in stress and crap getting what was right and ought to have been mine by default! Still these things are sent to try us, Keep going, if you fancy pop over to Londinium have a cuppa and show us the machine!

Hi again Warren, I didn't know you live in That Laahndon... me and Penny are from there.. Where abouts are you?... Once the bike is finished ill be playin out in it for sure.. This weekends video will be a change, im tuning the forks on Penny's Triumph as they're too stiff and need softening up a bit.. so im putting in some blended fork oil to make the bike smoother to ride..! then it'll be back to the build next week..

Moonfleet41 alright Del I'm residing in Battersea, practically across from the power station, let me know and I'll put the kettle on! Good job, the forks I mean, are you not gonna tinker with the springs just do with fluids, I have recently become the proud owner (not too proud) a bit smug! Of a nice shiny set of brake hoses on my K, nothing wrong with the old one's, me pal just suggested an upgrade which I took on board and we both did the work, Gotta say these maintenance bits we do with bikes (we all should do) really add to the enjoyment, When everyone goes electric, We'll all have to become conversant with electrics! I had problems with Simoniz Tough Black with the yellow label on the front of the can. The nozzles would get blocked and the cans would lose pressure. Holts were really good and gave me a few cans as a replacement and the new can has a greenish label on the front. Did you have any issues with the old cans? On another subject, I have a petrol tank that I am respraying and had to repair a couple of dents. I have sprayed a top coat and there are some very slight miss matches in the finish from sanding the filler. Would I get away with using a finishing filler to fill these very slightly miss matches. You can't feel them by hand but by eye they stand out? Maybe a good video on filler and sanding tips in the future.
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, I've done so many videos on sanding and filler, think I've probably covered just about everything, you can use the Dolphin Glaze filler, but its pretty expensive.. maybe try spraying a guide coat over the tank first, all one solid colour and wee if the joins show with paint over it..? Good luck buddy.. hope it works out.. del.

I didn't realize it was 4mm thick. Should be good and strong. Eventually when you decide on a colour scheme for the bike go with that colour on the hugger otherwise it will blend into the swing arm colour and disappear. Bought a 10 piece blind bearing puller set today.www.princessauto.com/en/detail/blind-bearing-puller-set/A-p8104036e

The set I bought is similar to yours but it does not have the bridge puller, it only has the slide hammer. I could make a bridge puller to use with the set easy enough. I bought the set because I want to change several bearings on the V Star when the season is over. Just in the process of getting all the stuff needed beforehand.

(P) Nice little vid Del. Did you consider grinding down the frame weld so that you didn’t need to cut the hugger? I’d go for silver, if it was black, from a distance, it would look like just the tire and the hugger would disappear, unless that’s what you want.
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, as you saw, I painted it black at the end of the video, it will stay that way for now, same as the chain guard and the air intake inlets, big decision to be made in the future once that time comes... that ridge in the frame was there to protect the swing arm from impact if the old shock reservoir ever hit it on full compression, it wasn't a weld, I didn't wanna grind it off in case it wasn't secure all the way through! Thanks very much

@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, thanks for your kind words.. am not quite srue on the exact temp. it will work to, but I've certainly had it up to about 250degrees confirmed, I painted the radiator mount bracket that also bolts right next tot he exhaust header pipes and that's fine, it's also used on the outside faces of the radiator itself, and for what it's worth, most regular paint is safe up to about 400degrees, believe it or not...! So why not get the head shield up to working temp. , hit it with a laser thermometer and see what it gets up to... if it's anything less than 400', you'd be pretty much ok with anything !
@gavinhughes86236 жыл бұрын
