Nice work, glad to see something saved and repaired instead of just replaced! I used a pretty similar method to fix our rolling garbage can that had split... I bent 1.5” 16g finish nails into an S shape and melted them in!

Ha ha, well its the same principle i guess... you feed the tip in and out all along the crack to melt the two halves together, then add filler material.... same as Tig welding but with plastic.. it was even TIG wire i was melthing in as stitches to re-enfource the repair..!

You have the patience of Job, the saddlebags came up really well. Have you thought about a bit of dubbing, it'll soften & waterproof (maybe for the snakeskin) Fatboy looks good with them on --have a great weekend

Thakns Geoff... the boot polish made a great job of them, i have lots of 'products' ive tried over the years...neatsfoot oil, Renapur balsum, nikwax etc etc...but i still find just plain olf black boot polish makes a great finish to them..!

Depending on the use you IME you should be careful with dubbin as it's quite sticky and will clog the pores of the leather. It is good for waterproofing though. Personally on old leather I'd have used some sort of nourisher first as an extra conditioner before polish - ideally left over night somewhere warmish (not hot). Polish will obviously help condition as well and the leather looked in VGC without cracks, so it might not have needed it. Got to say the plastic brazing was amazing!

Hey Willie, it took me ages to find them small enough.. they are the same model as the bags on the T2 bike....just have the Ealskin inserts.. an other bag i saw was just massive and made the bike look like a Heritage...

Thanks buddy, I actually put 3 coats of the polish on, and the dry old leather, just breathed it in... only on the 4th coat did it sit on top a little, so once they were mounted on the bike, I actually gave them a buff up with the cloth... and the music is a new selection from a kind musician who just makes it for his own enjoyment ... !

Hi Good job on the bags, they look new. Been watching your vids for a couple of years now. I am planning on buying my first motorcycle and I want this to be a 883. Preferably a 883R (2004-up). Is there anything I should be aware of in regards to known problems with the 883Rs? I am not into racing and just want the bike because of the sound and looks. Other than your vid explaining what to look for when buying a used motorcycle any input regarding things to look out for is appreciated. Thanks for your informative videos.

Nice work Del! How much watts is your soldering iron - I get good results with 40ty but I think it's a bit hotter than needed for plastics... One pice of advice - you could use some hand cream to recondition the leather before shoe polish - it gets softer and holds better in wet weather... On the other hand - who drives a Harley in the rain :d

I DRIVE A HARLEY IN THE RAIN ill have you know... i dont own a car so no choice..!!! and yeah, vasaline, even baby oil wiped over before the polish makes the leather shinier...but iwanted to feed lots in bone dry as they are 24 years old and very dried out... great now, and Mr Sheen brings them up like new..

Hi mate.. they are genuine Harley items from 1992, made from 4mm thick harness leather, really soft and supple, responded really well to the polish too.. probably cost about £500 when they were new.. chuffed to have found them.!

Way....! Use TIG welding wire, cos it conducts heat brilliantly, figure 8 is the best shape, as straight stiches can pull out, press the soldering iron on them, and as the plastic back boards are 5mm thick, they melt right inside, and form a perfect endo-skeleton... you don't really need to melt plastic over the top, but it does give a little extra strength!

Naah, thick paper clips are spiringy.. Tig wire is soft and bendy, and you're wasting your time preheating them, just drop them over the crack cold, and press them with the soldering iron, they pick up the heat and burn right in no trouble.. then beef up over the top with some more plastic both sides..
