Well that's 13 minutes I'm not getting back. If you don't like Dels videos don't watch them.
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
Good advice mate, but my point was about how he treats people, not his videos. He puts a lot of effort into what he does, but deals with criticism like a spoiled brat (either him or his moderator). The interactive comments section on KZbin is meant to offer interaction and feedback, as you have done here, and I welcome that. When you post technical videos it also presents as a quasi peer review and can be leveraged to promote positive learning opportunities and different viewpoints for anyone taking an interest, and for the creators themselves. When you hide every single difference of opinion those people will then find other avenues to express their view, often with a very different motivation. So those of us who support the open and transparent philosophies become a conduit for the people reaching out for answers or to vent their frustrations, and when you are exposed to the volume of frustration as Matt and myself are, it winds you up and sometimes manifests as it has in this video. Thanks for tuning in, have a look around my channel, I'm sure there is 13 minutes of something you will find worth watching to compensate.

I know Jon, and this video was uploaded in early August, but just made public now, as a show of solidarity to the Workshop and his rights as a creator. The decision to list it publicly was a reaction to a couple of Delboy fans that pushed my buttons so you can thank them I suppose. As I said you guys don't see the amount of feedback and frustration (even from his own group of "former" mates) and I guess it is a cheap shot and a tad immature but he was an arsehole to me directly and should probably have dealt with my, quite innocent question, like a human being rather than like a dickhead. My responses on my channel are not able to be censored by him and are my prerogative. Besides...I was showing that he did correct his error...kind of

Del lost my respect when he tried to silence and destroy the workshop. Had he just admitted being wrong or human and learned from greater knowledge I would have had no problem. Even if he stood his ground and offered to debate the issue, but he took the cowards route of censorship, to make it worse I think he did that because his wife told him to. Matts new Delboys emblem is spot on.

So, Thursday afternoon I assess engineering students. As part of that we usually watch a dell-vid or similar at the end and discuss what injuries his followers could end up with. I did ask del if he minded..but he blocked me. Anyhoo...After firing up the projector..your channel pops up and we decide to watch this instead. Just brilliant. The class picked up on "capillary action" and "steam" straight away. Raised a great discussion around why we need somewhere for coolant to go, how to get it back when it's cooled down and how we work out the rate of a pressure cap/relief etc. Then we discussed better ways to say "I got it wrong-but it's your fault". Useful stuff for the career these young people are heading towards. Brilliant. Liked and subscribed.

No, he is confusing hundreds of young impressionable people who now all feel really thick because they don't understand how things work. "Verbally", critique wise of course, I could never condone trying to actually shut down someone's channel or voice. ERM, Del?!? Delboy's big problem seems to be his incredible "Dunning Kruger effect on steroids" belief he actually does know what he's on about, when it's clear to anyone with a clue he has no idea and simply makes some shit up, seemingly on the fly. Combined with his apparently unwarranted massive ego. The dishonesty, is pretty self evident.

Hey mate, that's a brilliant video and I love the channel. I'm a pommie living in WA, from Middlesbrough and I've been watching the two-ing and fro-ing between the workshop and Del for a while now. Matts videos from the workshop are superb and really informative, love the style of delivery, he's a good Yorkshire man! Dels were helpful to a degree but watching how he behaves when people question his content/technical queries etc is just poor form. I'm a firm believer in the fact that we are all learning and nobody knows everything, that's why we watch!!! However the arrogance and lack of transparency is really disappointing from his side. Trying to take down another users channel is just inexcusable. Never mind fellas, the cream will rise. All the best from WA 😎

The bottom line here is that Del and many of his supporters don't have a problem with comments directed at Del and and his channel content. Viewers are not stupid like Matt thinks, we take in what we want and we ignore what we don't want. We can also assess things for ourselves if we are in doubt from a variety of sources. But when Matt, you or anyone else start making obscene, derogatory comments through your channels and forums directed exactly where you know I mean, then a line has been drawn over which you have stepped too far and in my opinion if you are not man enough to apologise and desist then your channels should be taken down.
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
Hi Ronnie, Del has a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge problem with comments, that is why these videos came out in the first place. It's just that he is very cunning at shielding that from his viewers. Credit where it's due he has a well presented channel. His style of bike mods aren't my cup of tea but that's completely subjective. I made a comment on one of his videos some time way back before all this started, quite innocently and not at all impolite (I did watch him for a while and took the "oh well at least he's having a go" attitude). His response and subsequent removal of the comment left me gob smacked. Then I discovered a large pattern of this behavior and slowly the truth about Delboy the person was revealed. When the advice he gives is dangerous that is where I draw the line and as he refuses to allow debate in his comments the debate finds a new platform. To his viewers it appears to be a one sided campaign, and I can see how that would look to the unsuspecting. However if he allowed the debate in his comments this would never have taken the path it has. I can't speak for Matt but I don't think his viewers are stupid, they're motorcycle people, my kind of people. But by the same token you can't tell me that some of them are not naive or impressionable. There have been consequences to my decision to finally list this video (it was filmed months ago) but I am big enough across the tits to weather that if I can believe that even just one person questions his advice and avoids injury or worse. Thanks for taking the time to comment and letting your feelings be known. As far as I'm concerned I have no intention of continuing to produce any Delboy related videos and just get back to bikes. The media is meant to be able to challenge and present different view points as well as exposing those who claim to be something they are not so unless we live in North Korea the idea that mine, or anyone else's channel, should be shut down just because you don't like the content of one video is a bit harsh. This type of conversation and expression of opinion is forbidden on Delboy's Garage, but welcomed here. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply.I agree comments directed at Del and his channel content including how/why he censors his comments are fair game. But that is not what I am alluding to and you know it. Encouraging and making the comments to which I am referring, in my opinion, is cowardly and totally unacceptable anytime and anywhere. Yes we should all move on but some people need to be big enough and man enough to apologise.

Poor ol' Del, I honestly think his intentions are good but I also agree that sometimes he is a "little out of his depth" with things he doesn't fully understand or just believes to be ok to do. An example of this is Del's videos on Penny's forks for her scrambler, I made comments (constructive criticism) on both these videos explaining what I believe to be mistakes made concerning fork oil levels and replacing the progressive fork springs either way up . Don't get me wrong, I think Del explained the process of the fork rebuild very well, but has ignored or possibly missed the comments I have given explaining why I was concerned ..... I'll add links at the end. I was relived that he has now put Penny's forks back to factory as I have had experience with handling issues due to wrong fork oil levels myself in the past. I also think that anyone who "calls out" someone for something that could prove to be detrimental to the use or function of equipment absolutely justified and would encourage this. We, I am sure have all made mistakes in the past and have or should have learned from them, that being said it's so hard for folk to loose face especially in front of their friends or in this case viewers, which I think is the case and I hope that in time Del or anyone else doing so can learn to just put their hands up and admit they are not perfect... I am personally more gutted when there is no one around to witness my f**k up's nowadays, nothing worse than coming off and no one see's it, maybe that just comes with age... I want that shite shared. Love this channel by the way Andy... keep em coming and all the best. People need to understand that Dellboys approach is very old school. Personally I love the approach as I'm also old school. i.e. hit it with a big hammer. The alternative is wear eye protection, gloves, hard hat, steel toe boots and a white coat, to change a light bulb while the bike is inside a sterile environmentally controlled workshop. That's fine for some but not for people who want a no nonsense, give it a go approach. His advice is not gospel its an opinion of how he does things.
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm not quite sure how we transitioned from giving dangerous advice to lab coats? Delboy's approach is the crux of the matter here, because as far as he is concerned it is gospel. I'm older than Del and as "old school" as anyone, and that includes respect and integrity. Your "give it a go" statement is why so many people have issue. Del has a target audience of new and novice home mechanics and when you're dealing with guys like that you have to assume that many of them simply can not differentiate between fact and fiction, so you better get the facts right before you tell them how to do something. Now we all make mistakes, even the best engineers in the world, but what separates the wheat from the chaff is the ability to learn from experience, listen to others, share ideas, collaborate, acknowledge, admit your mistakes and correct them, sadly Delboy does not posses a single one of those qualities. He just simply shuts down and hides any criticism or difference of opinion and continues to allow the unsuspecting to place their bikes and their safety at risk rather than have them believe that he may not really understand, and many pay him money for the privilege. Sorry mate, he's Chaff.
@benf.24026 жыл бұрын
So, someone who does something wrong is OK because you think his approach is "old school"? Andy went through the apprenticeship system in the 80s. That's pretty old school, wouldn't you say? And didn't old school people call them as they saw them more than the current PC, let's respect any idea because someone has it and we may hurt their feelings, crowd does?
@MrPlod9995 жыл бұрын
Old school??? You've obviously no idea of how 'old school' was!! Del needs to stick with his FRO Vlogs - I enjoyed his opinions. His workshop skills are flawed to the extent that he will cause harm to viewers who think he knows his stuff. He doesn't. Old school never taught people to hurt others. The silly bit is that Del hasn't the nuts to come clean and let people know when he is guessing and when he is not. HE is the problem. BTW, I'm a product of the early 70's apprenticeship training system in the UK.

@ANDY56 жыл бұрын
Neither, they’re just simply managed out. Sadly he has an enormous ego and can not accept criticism, constructive or otherwise, so he buries the comments so no one can offer an alternative point of view. And he usually replies to the commenter with a vile smart arse comment before deleting it. He really is a prick of a thing.
@ModshackMerlin7 жыл бұрын
Andy, I must admit I am really disappointed at Del Boy. I really thought that he would start to try and debate the chemistry and physical properties of Evans after I had pulled it to tiny pieces and explained in simple terms what each additive does in their formulation, did he do that? Nope, simply because it's easier to talk about fluids being more 'viscose' (viscose is a fabric, incidentally) and not 'viscous'. Those of us that actually understand these subjects try to educate others and explain how and why things work without 'handbags at dawn', but it's a lot easier to hide behind a channel he is in control of and have a delete-fest every time someone isn't in total and utter awe at his levels of awesomeness. Trying to kill someone else's channel, just because they hold a different view to yours and are prepared to point out where you are going wrong, is the action of a six-year old that is taking his ball home. if he can't explain it properly and do his research, then he shouldn't weigh in on topics that could end up in 'shots fired' if he gets it wrong. I'm essentially neutral, but I can get triggered just like anyone else if the other person is being a condescending know-all knob, who is so far up his own rear end that he can't see daylight and hasn't a clue what he's talking about. I know my stuff and I can stand being called out on it, as long as the other person critiquing my argument can present a balanced and researched counter-argument and discuss science reasonably where necessary.

I have a great deal of sympathy for anyone making videos where a large audience will be able to dissect them frame by frame for mistakes. However the censorship of comments is not helpful, I think that is the biggest issue. Or treading into areas of physics that the creator clearly don't understand and inventing stuff on the fly. I like your channel, I like Matts channel, both very different but I do learn stuff. (I am very old). Delboys channel is also interesting and sometimes educational but he should stay clear of the physics or at least research stuff. I don't want anyone to have their KZbin channels taken down, but if someone has a channel which seems to be aimed at educating a younger audience there needs to be an element of peer review. Hypothetically if your XS1100 drops a valve or something because "you tuned it to destruction" it is just your problem, you did not make me do it to mine. Keep up the good work Andy, loved the videos on the XS!

He really just chatted shit comprising of bits of stuff he had gotten from car gearbox's, mixed in with things he simply pulled from his arse. The smug, arrogant affectation of deep knowledge with which he does it just makes it slightly harder to stomach/watch. Oh not to mention his coolant system debacle, where he "goes into detail" about a damn radiator/exp bottle cap. Actually it would really just be source of funnies. If it were not for the fact some folk listen to him and they have a great risk of either damaging something, or themselves. He really does need to be called out on his bullshit. And although Del cannot help but take it personally, it really isn't.

G'day Andy, been watching Delboy for years now and he is one of my favorite channels to watch, especially the fabrication videos. He is quite handy with fabrication and gives a lot of good advise, or at least I thought it was ALL above board and advise given by an authority that can be trusted. I recall him saying somewhere that he used to own a bike shop and may even be a mechanic himself (not sure about that one), point being that he makes it sound like he is an authority and his advise can be trusted, at least that's how he has come across to me. Well, after watching this and Matts video, I have lost a lot of respect for Delboy and realized that not everything is says is good advise, trouble is ones you start having that doubt I am not sure how much of anything he says I will take as advise. I particularly couldn't believe how he explained the gear engagement as if the gears were to move towards each other when they engage. I had never seen that video, and as I said have watching his channel for years. Maybe one of his earlier vids, but none of the less hilarious, if you know how gears work. He really had NO idea in that video what he was talking about and made stuff up. Can't understand why you would make a video on a subject you don't know anything about. Bugger, my comment is getting too long sorry about that. Just wanted to mention one more thing about him not taking negative comment well. I rarely comment on his channel, but the one time I did he snapped at me and made it quite clear that he knows best and how dare I criticize him whether right or wrong. So thanks for these vids that made me aware that the guy can't be trusted with everything he says. I will still watch his stuff but its good to know.... rsm8

G'day Joe, thanks for tuning in. To my knowledge Delboy has had zero formal training outside of a pre-start check for a bus. That being said he does have the gift of the gab and could sell a tomato sauce sandwich to a woman in white gloves. I shudder at the thought of him working on customer bikes. I honestly want to see KZbin motorcycle channels succeed, it's win win for everyone. The problem that most people in the know have with Del is that the majority of his viewers are novice home mechanics and actually believe what he tells them. I have, painfully, watched a number of his videos and I could devote an entire channel to highlighting issues, but that would just be petty. "Can't bat, can't bowl, can't field" springs to mind. He refuses to allow debate in the commentary so he creates a very dangerous situation where there are impressionable people doing potentially harmful or dangerous things to their bikes based on his advice with no alternative views to consider. If just one kid sees this video and stops to question his advise, I have succeeded. If he would just do his research and embrace feedback as a learning opportunity he could have something great, his devotion to producing well constructed videos (the videos themselves not the content) is commendable. There is a large network of knowledge out there in viewer and creator land that he refuses to tap into because he wishes to be seen as the all knowing Oracle, which is a shame. He accuses us of jealousy and channel bashing and pulls the victim card. He also accuses us of trying to boost subscriber numbers. He has 70,000 Subs. If I wanted a slice of that I would be crawling up his arse, not trying to make sure people are aware of the real Delboy animal. Thanks for the comment Joe, it seems you have the intelligence to seek further confirmation before accepting his word as gospel. You ride safe too mate.

There are lots of issues with KZbin including fair use. I'm a guitarist as well as a biker and many have had or been threatened to have their channel taken down on music infringement. Now that is an issue, but KZbin/Google instead of getting the person contesting to prove that they own it they want the youtuber to prove that the person contesting doesn't own it and if not the other party automatically gets all the royalties. This means that you have got organisations set up to contest everything just to get the royalties, etc even though they have done nothing towards those royalties. The problem with the Delboy Matt thing is partly that Matt is in his face. However Dellboy should be willing to take criticism, as we all should, and learn from it, including channel subscribers. Nobody should be able to just delete something as they don't like it, rather than learn from it. I don't agree with everything Matt says, but the majority I do. I have always done a lot of research and have a more scientific and engineering basis to things that I do. And just because we did or believed something 50 years ago does not mean it is still true. Things develop. However some people just will not listen or want to find out the truth, they still contend what they say is fact even when it blatantly isn't and we come across those in our daily life. One thing I will say is that just because a company or somebody says something does not make it true or a fact but should be the starting point for you to research for one self to see what is fact and what is fiction.

Looks like you could have spent the time educating rather than ridiculing. If you are trying to explain physics to beginners, are you going to use collegiate terms or elementary terms? Same for I/C engine physics, no? I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think this makes you look petty.
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
G’day mate, thanks for watching. So if you’re going to explain motorcycle maintenance to beginners are you going to give them facts, or complete rubbish that could potentially harm them or their equipment? If you’re happy with untrained back yard mechanics who give poorly researched advice that can potentially harm someone or their equipment, then Delboy’s Garage ticks all the boxes. AND just to make sure nobody can dispute the all knowing oracle he deletes any comments to the contrary. There are plenty of guys on KZbin who provide useful and accurate information on motorcycle maintenance, I’m sorry but he isn’t one of them. The way he has treated me, and many others, is what has led to all of this crap, he has only himself to blame.

If you make instructional videos that people believe are true and are not, and somebody gets hurt or killed, is the maker of the videos burdened with liability? It seems to me you are trying to build a subscriber base off the backs of others.

I think you hit the nail on the head towards the end there for me. I like his channel, love his workshop but the one irritating thing for me his is over analysis of absolutely everything. When I was in sales along time ago, one the main things we were told was, don’t over sell, keep it simple, don’t go in-depth unless 1, you really have to and 2, you definitely know what the hell your talking about!

Hi Andy, I'll be honest and admit I enjoy Delboys channel and vids. I'm not a mechanic or engineer and never claim to be one, but even I know that Delboy has made mistakes and will probably continue to do so in the future. The only issue I have with your vid is the clip that says he will close down other channels. That statement was made in a vid where he explained that someone had downloaded all his vids and then re-uploaded them as their own, which would anger any creator. Like others have said I hope all this Del bashing would cease so everyone can just get back to doing the great content that they do, I know you have said in the comments that this was an old vid. Finally I hope you all the success with your channel, I'll stay subscribed as I enjoy the content you produce. Stay safe :)
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, thanks for watching. There are lots of people who enjoy Delboy's channel, and that's great. It is important to understand that there is a distinct line between mistakes or poor advice (we are all capable and guilty of that) and flat out dangerous advice. Now if someone innocently offers 70,000 subs dangerous advice, and they believe him, then we have a potentially fatal problem. That ratchets up the risk matrix pretty quickly when he hides any debate about the subject. Compound that with the fact that he treats the people who offered an alternate view with utter contempt, and this is the result. Thank you for the support, and you stay safe too.

BTW i also think that is what del's logo looks like lmao

“Fair use” is certainly a copyright exception in the United States. But-and I am not an attorney-the United Kingdom is not nearly as generous with its exceptions. Even if KZbin (a USA-based firm) is fine with a use, UK copyright law may lean otherwise. I would suggest caution.
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
G'day Tom, I have read through the policy and we're golden, and the fact that I don't live in the UK is an added assurance. When you become a KZbin partner you agree to their terms and conditions in return for them providing a platform for you to publish your creations and a potential income stream, regardless of your geographic location. At the end of the day even the local legal fraternity would have to ask the question, did you agree to these terms and conditions? Are the allegations true? Unfortunately for Delboy the answer is a resounding yes on both counts. He made a weak attempt to shut down The Workshop and he knows now that if he continues to cry about it KZbin will unplug his own channel as it is a breach of the KZbin partner agreement to make false complaints, and feeling butthurt is not valid grounds for such complaints, especially when the accusations are easily proven to be fact. If you advise people (people you are happy to take money from) to do something that could potentially harm them or their equipment, and then suppress any and all advice or council to the contrary, you don't have a lot of defense when you are exposed for doing so, especially when the evidence is actually a video of you providing said advice. Thanks for watching mate, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Andy
@jediknight12945 жыл бұрын
The uks exemptions are actually better for parody and review than in the usa so Matt is protected there and there is enough case law supporting it that he is golden even without the fact that part of the youtube agreement means you agree to be bound by cali law for the purpose of a lot of stuff. Some countries may have other rules. Germany for example has far more stringent rules for creation and ownership of content which changes things and forces far less permissive views on fair use.
