The media and bloggers will spin this family around for clicks and views. Be wise. This family should understand that that this is about how a child felt growing up...whatever their best intentions were. That's how he felt. It's clear the space was dysfunctional enough for a kid to grow with such resentment. That the other kids around didn't get a similar reaction does not sanctify the chaos under which the children were raised. I came from a similar environment, my siblings and I did ok. But most my neighbors from same compound never did... I'm talking robbery, drugs, prostitution, etc. Leave the boy alone. Stay quiet a keep whatever dignity you have left.

I think you all missed the whole revelation from this interview. Dele and his family are the victim here. there's a third party (the white guy as he mentioned) who turned Dele against his family when they saw the financial opportunity that his football career presents. they planted the fake news in the Media about his mum being an Alcoholic in order to take custodian and manage his football career. He also mentioned the people at MKDons colluded with this Whit guy to exploit Dele. So, they had to pin the boy against his family to achieve this. That is literally the point this man was making when he said they don't need his money. they just want their son back.

That may or may not be true! However let’s not conclude that the trauma he has suffered is not valid. Childhood Trauma can show up anytime in life and in my opinion parents should take the blame because they had 1 job…no one sends a request to earth to be born. Yes he may have been a trouble child but from what he described, they should have done soo much more, to protect him and nurture him as a child! Nigerians pls note…money is not everything!! The cost of his school fees does not equate to a great childhood! No responsible parent whilst alive and healthy would sit back and leave their child to be raised by another family. This is England, there is something called social services, they would have got involved if the parents of a minor kicked and screamed about the well being of their child!

I think the family has every right to respond especially when assertions have been made aspersions have been cast on an international platform . I personally think it’s important to fact check everything Dele has said considering the sway he carries as a world known footballer and the machinery behind him. It is very easy to stretch the truth to get the sympathy vote when one’s back is against the wall. His family do not have an equal platform to counter his story and over the years have maintained a dignified silence regardless of whether they are right or wrong . Investigative journalists should easily be able to get to the bottom of this whole saga.

The gospel truth is that Dele dropped in form, and out of shame, he's looking for sympathy from fans to cover his mediocrity up with depression story from the gods. Insightful interview. Two Yoruba proverbs came to my mind as I listened to their version of the story: 1. Ti ogiri o ba lanu, alangba o le wo (if the wall is not ruptured/has cracks the gecko won't find a way in), 2. Ijafara lewu (delay is dangerous). The first proverb latches on to the fact that Dele's parents, unintentionally it seems, left a way open for this family to perpetrate this alleged brainwashing. At 15 he was still a minor. No matter how 'liberal' the society you live in is, I don't see it as advisable to allow your child go stay at a "friends" house for more than its necessary. Following that, when his mother started getting a hint of some sort of foul play by the Hickfords, these concerns needed to be met by a more swift response. The trusting went way too far, action to put boundaries in between him and the Hickfords was delayed and it ended up in this family completely taking over. At the end of the day, no one seems to be faultless in this story.

For sure Dele lied about staying in Nigeria for just 6 months. I also think their must be truth in some of what Dele said about his mum. If the mum was living in a council flat, then it is possible that she may be an alcoholic and Dele may have seen a lot as a child in that environment that is not as peaceful as the hickfords. Like I said and I will repeat again, you have a problem with understanding.... First of all I saw Dele's interview with Gary Neville and my first thought was that his parents were irresponsible to have allowed a child go through all he "claimed" to have gone through. However, after watching this response from his father's family, with how they were tagging people with their names for verification, it becomes clear that everything has been staged from whoever is behind Dele's football story. And for Dele's dad's family to come out to clear their names and speak "their own truth" I believe it's the right thing to do. Because Dele's interview painted his dad bad and his mom an alcoholic which from this response is false. So as much as I know Dele is going through a hard time, based on this interview, it seems like, it's his greed and thirst for fame that has plunged him into his mental state. Cos all he needs to do really is speak the truth and these whole things goes away... Only very possibly at the cost of his fame and football career. I hope your brain can comprehend this☺️

Why would he have ' to do research' about the school if he is the family spokesperson? They should have known. Secondly simply being in an expensive school doesn't mean you are being 'looked after' or happy. If he didn't know his father, then simply being sent to live with a parent you don't know, misses the point. There's clearly a family breakdown and this isn't the way to fix it. Too many Nigerians were sent to live with their fathers when they didn't know them or their family. My uncle is still very bitter about this - even though he also went to the best local school. Not knowing the culture or language matters which is why parents must always make sure their children know all sides for their culture. Ps these 'reps' are not even mildly convincing.

Storm made a false claim. Dele never said he was sent to Nigeria as a punishment. He said he was sent for discipline. Not sure why that is seen as negative by Storm anyway. Secondly, what has being at a £34,000 school got to do with anything? Does having a lot of money prove care? If a child goes into foster care whether formal or informal then it raises a question surely about BOTH parents since they are responsible for the child. Sounds like Dele suffered as a result of broken home which is not uncommon. Very sad. Such a shame that the focus is about the football and the education. Neither of these are the most important things a child needs. A loving home, good parental guidance, protection and good discipline are way more important. This interviewer has failed to ask relevant questions about his actual childhood prior to his football career. Dele is responsible for his drug use as an adult but how did he get involved in selling drugs at 8 years old. Or are the family saying this is a lie?

I think you all missed the whole revelation from this interview. Dele and his family are the victim here. there's a third party (the white guy as he mentioned) who turned Dele against his family when they saw the financial opportunity that his football career presents. they planted the fake news in the Media about his mum being an Alcoholic in order to take custodian and manage his football career. He also mentioned the people at MKDons colluded with this Whit guy to exploit Dele. So, they had to pin the boy against his family to achieve this. That is literally the point this man was making when he said they don't need his money. they just want their son back.

@@nich130 Very helpful to have this additional information which I had not been aware of. Without wishing to condemn anyone or absolve Dele of any responsibility, it is clear from Dele’s own interview, the response from his father’s relatives and his mum’s account, that he was indeed a very (parentally)neglected child. Must have been hard for his mum to admit this. I imagine it is also difficult and embarrassing for his father and likely explains the family’s defensiveness in the interview.

He already has. Dele has revealed that he was groomed and abused, it was a painful interview. Why would he say that to revive his career? He’ll get the same sympathy for simply admitting he has drug problems. His family appear to be in denial about it because it suggests they failed in their duty to protect him. However they probably simply didn’t know. His family claim his mother is not an alcoholic but they seem to be saying it in the present tense. She might be sober today but had been an alcoholic at that critical point in time. She’s confirmed in interview with the media that she was indeed an alcoholic so I see no dispute there. His family are not even saying he wasn’t abused, they pretty much seem to accept that he was. The butt of their argument seems to be that he wasn’t neglected because he was in an expensive school, heck he could have even been abused in that institution too.

His mother says its true.. that's good enough for me. she was there unlike this young guy who wasn't even born- he's 19 😂

@@Nymbusangel exactly my point. This young man doesn't even seem to know Dele OR his mom personally. The older guy was a friend of Dele's dad's briother, but has been in Nigeria. He wouldn't know what was going on in that house and his dates are all wrong anyway.

He's 19 that's why he said some questions will be better answered by his father 🤷. His dad's twin agrees a gagging order was enforced. That goes to tell you there's a bigger issue behind the scenes

Fact remains that for extended periods of his innocent young life,Dele was not with his birth parents. Where were they?

So do you need a certificate to be an alcoholic? He said she's not an alcoholic "legally". There are plenty of people who could be defined as alcoholics or have alcohol issues that hold jobs.

His dad clearly tried to keep Dele under his wing but gave up on him, until he became extremely wealthy.

His dad is richer than him. He should take responsibility for his failure.

This is terrible. Leave this man alone. Dele's father said let him play his football and leave him alone. His mother is living her life and says nothing. His sisters have said nothing. But these people seem to have an agenda of their own. Are they saying his wasn't molested? I know trauma when I see it and that wasn't for the camers's! Do they know if the mom had men in and out of her house as a kid? So they dad had money, does that mean he was a great dad? The mind does all sorts of things to protect itself and it's not unusual that dates and times from a young child who experienced trauma aren't 100% accurate. But what is the purpose of these people dragging this man, his truth as he understands it, and his family on news programs? They act as if they are personally affected and were somehow there throughout his childhood to witness all that went on with him. I see why he wants to just move on with his life and have no relationship. This can't be helpful to him getting his life back on track.
