If asked to express a preference, I'd prefer the self-referential version 'in the show'. It suggests an explicit awareness of itself. One can never have enough 'Meta'. Meta opens doors, you know!

What was it with the horse sketches? Can't see anything funny, in fact it's all very childish and cheap. No need for even one of them, much less a series. The negative librarian/teacher, on the other hand, was very much worth just that. Pity there were only two of these sketches.
