Except Celtic isn't Scottish, it's Irish. It was started by Irish immigrants who came over during the potato famine and didn't want to support the existing, Scottish teams so created their own, Irish teams, instead. The entire point of Celtic is that it's not Scottish. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been created in the first place. The real Scottish club would probably be Rangers or Hearts.

@salwaaj1356 Жыл бұрын
I'm african myself and i ve never trusted in such appeals as these precisely because of the '' africa'' thing. It s too vague and too big and also offensive. Africa is a huge continent with dozens of countries, each with its different situations. So those generic pictures of suffering and the vague labeling always felt like a scam to me. Why not name a country in need, instead of the evasiveness. Fishy if you ask me
@rumpelstiltskin6150 Жыл бұрын
@@salwaaj1356 I would assume it's because the vast majority of the target audience know absolutely nothing about Africa. I like to refer to Egypt as Africa just to confuse people. Mention the great pyramids of Africa and people get a bit confused.
@someguy3766 Жыл бұрын
@@salwaaj1356 Indeed, also the money doesn't really help. Africa is a huge continent rich in land and resources and it's perfectly capable of producing its own wealth. What many African nations need is stable, uncorrupt governance and the rule of law in order to foster economic activity and investment. Don't get me wrong, funding a well in some poor village does help some people. But ideally these countries should be building their own infrastructure. The question has to be asked why their governments are not building wells, roads, power grids etc. Where is all the money going. And if they don't have the money to begin with... you have to ask why the societies they govern are not producing it. It's almost always down to bad policy and corruption. Charity cannot fix that, at best it just patches over a few leaks.

"the scottish club" is that a Blackadder reference to "the scottish play" skit?
@NxDoyle4 жыл бұрын
No. It's not a reference _to_ Blackadder, it shares the same reference _as_ Blackadder. Namely, the superstition among some theatre people that Macbeth is a cursed play and as such, saying it by name in the theatre will bring bad luck. In Blackadder it was used as a device for Edmund to mess with actors who took the superstition seriously. But here it's used as one of the gags that comes from a sketch about crossing football with theatre.

Three years after this comment HB was legally put in the public domain. I dont know if the court battles at the time affected the ability of MaW to use HB or they just said fuck it and paid the royalties tho.
@Izithel2 жыл бұрын
@@PointsofData It actually turned out that the claim to the copyright by it's then holder was invalid and the song had actually been in the public domain since the 1920's. As part of the lawsuit the ex-copyright holders were to pay a settlement of over 14 million dollars to those who had previously licensed the song. So if MaW (or by extension the BBC) did pay the royalties it's likely they got those (partially) refunded.
