I still like to think the Rainbow part has something to do with Rainbow Dash effecting the water molecules in the air around her, similar to how rainbows work. I also draw evidence from boast busters.

​@@gulsum6084 that's mainly cause it was both thought impossible and rainbow dash is the only person in the past 2000 years to actually do it and it's less a speed thing and a magic thing twilight barly got a purplish one almost off but failed with the magic part being a lot less powerful than rainbow dash's when she was a filly even

But her sonic rainboom was different cause it wasn’t that special and it’s not that loud and big , it is indeed a sonic rainbow, it said so on Google and on the fandom but I’m not sure if I’m the fandom it is

​@@AmaliaRamo two difference between twilight and rainbow speed and magical power rainbow was both stronger and more powerful magic wise though when she was a filly she was stronger magic wise which was still bigger than twilights version which is why it's so rare and special

It has been shown in the episode Secrets and Pie that Rainbow dash can move at near light speed. Still, I do like your idea.

​@eldritchangel4058 it's pegasus magic that she was born with she was born with that rainbow main and tails and wings because she's just that natrally strong I guess she got her cutie mark at 6 and no she's not the first person to do a sonic rainbooom she's the first person in a very very long time to do it like her descendent probably did it once or twice due to you need to have both alicorn level magic and a decent stregth and speed and rainbow can only barly do it if she's not helping a friend or something as she did create the link to the main 6 with the rainboom and is partially responsible for spike as well rainbow dash is sonic rainbooom is explicitly stated to just be a influx of magic and speed
