Delia Smith CH CBE is a culinary icon having sold over 21 million cookery books, and is also joint majority shareholder of Norwich City FC. In this conversation, Delia opens up about her spiritual journey, the transformative power of community and her time at Norwich.
Her spirituality is a central theme of the episode - now at 82 years of age, she describes how her relationship to community, politics and silence has transformed over time. Delia shares with Jake and Damian how dedicating one hour (she started with just 10 minutes) a day to quiet time has reshaped her perspective on life's challenges.
Having been a key member of the Norwich football family for over 27 years, community is central to Delia’s life. Delia discusses how to create, support and maintain communities in a time when everyone feels so disconnected. Her time at Norwich has also brought many challenges, including joining the board when they were days from bankruptcy and dealing with rude fans and cruel chants. She shares what it feels like to find true freedom and how she has come to accept herself and the difficult realities of life.

In contrast to the other comments - I enjoyed this one. I took away the real essence of life, people and being part of a community at the whole heartedness of trying to do what's right for other people. I'm really intrigued by the "social glue", "Reflective Day Dreaming" and "Citizen Assemblies", some real reflections there. But a good episode and thank you. Keep them coming!

Im a Norwich City fan, and I have always been so content that we have owners like Delia that truly love the club and it's fans and cares about its future. The sad reality is football as a business has massively changed, and that money is what mostly controls the industry. But I am still truly grateful for what Delia and Michael have done for us.

Delia’s ‘How To Cook’ series, helped me immensely. Try her toad in the hole with onion gravy. Then again, my mash is better than hers because it’s hotter.😅

One vote in five years is not democracy, Bravo that's exactly I was thinking my entire life. For me only Switzerland comes close to a democratic society as you vote several times within a year to decide about how you wanna life.

Its obvious you don't like to look at evidence if you've had to go back 115 years to find one singular piece of evidence to support your ignorant opinion

No way even a 4°c increase would wipe out humans (I think its been +0.8°c since the mid-19th century and you argue how accurate measureents have been historically. ie It likely not to the tenth of a degree). I don't know where that thinking comes from. We'd be far more effected by a temperature decrease.

I hate when people talk out of their wheelhouse. The earth has heated and cooled for centuries. We should be thinking of solutions especially in countries like China and India where they can move to more renewables, not destroying our standard of living where motorists are hit at every turn and energy and fuel prices are the highest anywhere in the world

We should leave them the hell alone and if we actually wanted to do something good we would stop the climate hysteria and finger pointing at once and started pouring resources into education and r&d. But math and science apparantely isn't as appealing as talking ideas in a seminar after a drunk night out while working on a useless degree

Yeah sure. Like consuming stuff you don't need out of sheer self-absorbed desire isn't a problematic standard of living. Western society is as r*tarded as a model can get: a hedonistic culture full of bunch of highly educated self-absorbed conformists working a useless job in a made up market only to be a stereotype of a consumer that aims to hoard wealth for the sake of the self while destroying everything natural with concrete.

@@jeane0253 Get a reality check. Modern education is mass education and a product of capitalism. It's hardly 200 years old and produced the most educated poluting population in history. Education never had as many resources. The problem is that people are anthropocentric hypocrites too d*mb to realize education is just a performance stage as a reproductive learner preparing you to perform in a market for income. Education always existed to keep the economy going and education in the last 200 years produced workers that managed to f*ck up the world more efficiently while declaring work and self-enrichment holy.

As a Norwich fan I can tell you it's way more than 10% of fans that want her out. But if she believes in what she is saying then it should be put to a vote.

I agree. And not because they dislike her or what shes done, but because we need fresh investment and ideas because we're in a money business, and Norwich is being left behind.
