Tatiana (the main lyricist of the band) is a well educated lady actually. She has a literature degree. Btw this song is dedicated to the centenary of Kafka's death. It's a song about Tatiana's own feelings which are presented through the prism of Kafka's works. She doesn't like to expose her own to people (but she does it) because she knows that always some people will criticize her work or even laugh at it. She's a tender soul (delicate and thin skinned) and it hurts her. Additionally Tatiana is always nervous before live performances and even afraid of it a bit despite of her huge experiences. You'd never believe it if you don't know it because she has such a powerful, mesmerizing stage presence with undeniable charisma. Tatiana is a very demonstrative example of how a person is afraid to do something but does it because she can do it and because she must. Again and again, almost every day.

Oh that's super cool and makes so much sense looking at the lyrics. That's a nice 'fun' fact, thanks for adding that. :) I read in another comment the quote of the interview where she talked about it, really interesting. I can totally relate to the nervous part haha, played around 100 shows in my life, always was nervous before, doesn't matter if 10 people or 1000, if you wired this way, it will never go away, but that's a good thin in my opinion. :) Very well said in the end, such a brave person, got to admire that.

Haha I feel like "fever dream" is the perfect way to describe that song, another great reaction. The fourth single that's currently out from the upcoming album is rogue, but it's very heavy and extremely chaotic. An interesting thing to keep in mind when listening to stuff from the upcoming album is that the band's drummer actually wrote music for the album while bunkered down during the bombing of Kyiv, not that Jinjer's music isn't always a little chaotic, but I think this upcoming album is influenced by that, the entire band except for Tatiana were stuck in Ukraine when the Invasion started and they had to cancel a planned tour. It was the second time they'd been affected by war as they were from Donbass and fled to Kyiv when war broke out there in 2014. Their song, Home back, is a good song about that chaotic time. As far as progressive/not traditionally structured songs by them, my favorite two from their last Album are Vortex and Wallflower. Earlier Jinjer is a bit more traditional but they still always have something different in each song. Who is Gonna be the One (official live video) is a good example of that. Perennial live at Wacken 2019 is another.

Jinjer plays inside and outside the box, many of Jinjer’s songs can follow a traditional format and then in other songs they just bend or break the rules. Jinjer is not a commercial band, they often produce musical art because they feel strongly about something. Some of theirs songs take a few listings to warm up to. Kafka was one of them for me, because it ended so abruptly on a harsh vocal. Jinjer’s music speaks to me because it is so unpredictable while maintaining the Jinjer sound. Listening to new Jinjer song is kind of like going on a musical adventure.

They just play wherever they want. :D You really can tell, they don't waste a single second thinking about if it would be a commercial success and I think thats a part of why they are successfull. :D

Tatiana had this to say about the song. “Being an artist is sometimes beautiful but most of the time it’s brutal… as our art is dissected word for word and ripped apart note by note, we‘re expected to be on point all-the-time … and when we aren’t, we are scandalized. A true artist is vulnerable but the crowd is most often plagued with vultures who pick at every single move you make. It’s a slippery slope when music means the world to us but how quickly praise turns into prosecution… We are all Kings and Queens for a day but most of the time it feels like a Kafka novel for a lifetime. It‘s exciting but surreal and absurd at the same time" Someone also asked an AI model to explain the lyrics and this is what it came up with. 1. "Hardly under spirit of the era / Delicate and thin-skinned" This line references feeling out of place or in conflict with the current times. The "delicate and thin-skinned" description suggests vulnerability and sensitivity to a harsh world. 2. "Wanted here, in front of the jury / Face uncovered against the wind" This may allude to being judged or scrutinized by society. The image of standing "in front of the jury" evokes a Kafkaesque scenario where the individual is subject to an arbitrary and unfair judgment, often a theme in Kafka's works like The Trial. 3. "Whom to wake up in the morning / A Gregor or Joseph, will it be" Gregor likely refers to Gregor Samsa from The Metamorphosis, who wakes up transformed into a giant insect, symbolizing alienation and dehumanization. Joseph likely refers to Joseph K. from The Trial, who is arrested and prosecuted for an unspecified crime, symbolizing helplessness in the face of an incomprehensible system. This line reflects the uncertainty of identity and fate-will the narrator be neglected like Gregor or wrongfully accused like Joseph? 4. "Neglected and abused or wrongfully accused" This reinforces the duality between being ignored or unjustly punished, both of which are central to Kafka’s themes. 5. "I'm microdosing hells staying under a blissful state" The narrator navigates pain in small doses, perhaps numbing themselves to endure the absurdity and suffering of life, a concept reminiscent of existential despair. 6. "The void will bleed with inks" This could symbolize the act of writing or self-expression as a way to fill the existential void. Kafka himself often wrote about internal torment and tried to make sense of it through literature. 7. "Absurd of my existence / I'm aching through persistence" This line emphasizes the existentialist belief that life is inherently absurd, yet humans persist through the struggle despite finding no inherent meaning. 8. "The pen will slit the heart" Writing, or the act of self-expression, is both painful and necessary. It’s a double-edged sword that exposes inner suffering while offering catharsis. 9. "The world has shut me down but it's more than just fine" Despite rejection and alienation, the narrator finds a kind of acceptance or resignation, embracing the absurdity rather than resisting it. 10. "Not everything dismembers, nothing happens for a reason" This rejects the idea of cosmic order or purpose, embracing a nihilistic worldview where life events lack inherent meaning. 11. "We are lonely, don't feel sorry" A stark acknowledgment of the human condition-loneliness is inevitable, and pity or sympathy are futile. 12. "I torched my existence / Oh, how absurd" The final lines reflect a destructive act, perhaps metaphorical, symbolizing a complete rejection of societal norms or even life itself, ending with the recognition of life's absurdity. Overall Theme The song "Kafka" explores existential themes of alienation, identity, absurdity, and the search for meaning in a world that offers none. It pays homage to Kafka’s literary world, where individuals are often trapped in hopeless, bureaucratic systems and face existential crises without resolution. The lyrics reflect an internal struggle between the desire for meaning and the acceptance of life's absurdity.

Where did it get those lines? Some of those were very inaccurate and changed the meaning. Or did the AI hallusinate and changed them when giving the answer?

I gonna stick to what Tati said on that, also quite ironic to have what she said about their art being dissected and then get an example for it right away with the AI doing just that. She probably wouldn't be fond of that haha. For now, I like hearing what artists say about their art, I like what fans say and what it means for them and I'll probably read some Kafka again. :) Thank you so much for sharing that.

It's AI, it will just look for whats mentioned online most and completely out of context. I would just use it to start a train of thought and gathering an idea. :)

if you don't take the time, you can't love Jinjer as much as I do, Jinjer music is exhausting and the lyrics too, but damn, that's exactly right!!!!!!!!! Jinjer is a very profound band, and if you don't recognize them as such, you're just kidding yourself...... thanx a lot for your reaction and best wishes from the German musician. blast beats aren't really my thing either........................

So glad I have time to do it. Otherwise I would be missing out. It helps when you know what you getting yourself into with Jinjer. So you know when you can take the complexity of lyrics and music (and with Kafka even the video). Thank you for coming by and for supporting such a great band in the way you do.

This song once again shows what the Nazis actually destroyed. They murdered the rich culture once existent in the German universe stretching far east, including many German minorities and also the entire Jewish communities which spoke a (low) German dialect called Jiddisch. Gone, murdered, dead.

I would differ in one point, I don't think they succeeded, thy maybe tried to destroy it, but a lot of that culture and art has survived and I'm glad it did.

Love your description. 😂 That's super cool, thanks for clarifying, btw 'The Trial' is not the same as 'The Judgement', right? Sorry for getting confused with the titles, since I read it in german it can vary. :)
