I eat a ton of beans, lentils especially since they cook so fast. Everyone ought to eat lentils. This soup is right up my alley- looks great!

I agree Eric. I've got lentils, split green peas and garbanzo beans out in the shed. My next experiment is chickpea soup. I need to use up my chicken stock. -Dennis

So good to see you cooking... you look just like you did years ago....Im going to have to find something to change up for the Ham....not sure what would give it a similiar flavor...??

I think almost any meat would be good because this soup seems to come out of a necessity to use up leftovers from the Sunday roast. The next time I make this soup I want to try chicken dark meat. I think it would have a milder flavor, which I prefer. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

Looks terrific. I loved this restaurant in my town that closed 6 years ago when the owners retired. They made the best ham soup, but used a secret ingredient that I could never figure out. On the week that they closed, the owner finally revealed to me that the secret ingredient was dried mustard. Funny that you use it in your soup too.

Thank you for the video I haven't been making lentils but for a few years now and I was told that it you add a TBS of organic apple cider vinegar it will keep the shells or not sure what you call them but it keeps them from coming off and I think it gives it a nice extra flavor

Looks excellent Dennis! Co- incidentally I just made a pot of ham & split pea soup this morning. One of my favorites. Perhaps next time I'll try it with lentils.

You know I like split peas soup too. I like it because the peas break down easily into a puree. The lentils hold together more for a chunky soup. Thanks Mea. -Dennis

I haven't bought lentils in over 5 years today I picked up three small bags and then your recipe came on unfortunately I don't eat any pork products but I wonder if this will work good with chicken.

Yes, this would be very good with chicken. I used some of the leftovers with small macaroni and I added heavy cream to some for a milder soup. You could make this with vegetable stock and no meat for a vegetarian soup. Feel free to experiment. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

You can also thicken the soup by taking about half a cup to a cup of the lentils with the veggies, put it in the blender then back in the soup, just another option

Thanks for the tip. I've heard about it, but I haven't tried it yet. I want to experiment with chickpea soup next. I'll give this method of thickening a try. -Dennis
