Wow! I’m a 75 year old man who rarely cooks but I was looking for a soup recipe that would be like the soup my mom made. This is a lot like it and I was blown away by how delicious it is. I added a sweet potato to it because that’s what I remember my mom saying about her “secret ingredient “ and it was a good addition. When I served it I added a dollop of sour cream too. I will definitely make this again.

I’m amazed to hear that the majority of Americans still consume canned soups and think this is a new recipe. My grandmother made this exact same lentil soup over 45 years ago and it was just one of the many dishes that I learned to cook as a child. Cooking is a skill which should be absolutely taught at home. Thanks grandma,

Just made this! I live in LA area and there’s this ridiculously fancy and expensive grocery store that makes delicious lentil soup. I’ve been spending too much money for their soup when I could easily make it myself. This recipe is totally different than the one I buy from the market but it still came out good! Mine actually came out pretty thick and when I blended 35% of the soup it got even thicker. lol No big deal when I can add more stock or water to it. This tastes great with a crusty bread. 😊

Homemade Lentil Soup Recipe 1318pm 16.5.22 i told my mother to caramelize her onions when she created a soup. but she wouldn't have it. sweat off yer 2 onions (to caramelize you can use sugar); add taters after blanching and add lentils after blanching; sweat off all ingredients... and then add water.. leave on hob to warm. switch off hob. blend the veg with, you guessed it, a blender! and then add the rest of lentils to simmer with depleting heat. a very simple and cost effective rendition of an old favourite. of course you can add carrots, even more tater and celery, leek... and all manner of b.s - to suit yer own proclivities. and on another tack - it's the fact yer going crazy that you decided to make some home made soup.

@@sassyt1545 Homemade Lentil Soup Recipe 0941am 25.5.22 the fine tradition of decent cooking is upon us again, i feel. now that blokes or women, for that matter, have gotten over the fact that microwave chips might not pass muster 24/7 - as the snack of choice. and men in the kitchen still being frowned upon one thinks: all hail the hairy bikers and rick stein etc etc etc for at least allowing us a glimpse into the world of the culinary dilettente - the viewer of these fine televisual vehicles being the dilettentes asked to partake in some am dram cooking escapades, not the chefs themselves being the dilettentes (sic).... even ade edmonsdon did his bit to further the aims of some dolt trynna implant the odd meal in front of a degraded male routine. that said; if that particular woman feels the kitchen is her domain then i aint gonna argue. erm... in short i have just prepared my own lentil soup - chilli lentil and onion soup - taters added to thicken. i need to make the concerted effort to properly cook the lentils, though. mine are coming out a bit al dente. a full pack of lentils for one soup!!! half to add to the soup when you blend half to add to the soup when completed. the chilli leaves large gaps in taste, though. as does celery. i have forgone celery - it is crap and has a tendency to make soup stringy. which i hate. it is a bare bones (as they say) soup and although not on a par with gruel is expected to get me through culinary sparse times. yet again!!! i think navy beans soup might be in the offing, don't you. any tips on that foodstuff?

This recipe makes the most delicious soup! I was on a vegan fast so I had to sub avocado oil for the butter, and I used vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. When it was done and already perfect, I found a bag of spinach in the fridge that needed to be used and tossed it in. I can’t imagine it being any better 😋

Very nutritious and delicious!!! I do the same steps as this recipe but what I don't add is the celery because I don't like it but instead I put sofrito and to make it a bit salty I just add the chicken broth like the video. I also add half a habanero pepper to make it spicy because I like spicy foods. So many different ways to do it, love the video!

I'm borrowing a lot of things from this recipe for my lentil soup tonight. I'm obsessed with this lentil soup from Kalachandiji's in Dallas (it's called sambar) and want something that tastes at least somewhat similar to it. A lot of recipes online don't even use cumin! I don't understand how you can't use cumin! It really makes the dish! I think the caramelized onions are also going to be fantastic, excited to try it!

thanks for explaining about the french lentils! I love their color, and I was looking for something that won't break up - I want the soup liquid to keep clear, for my youngest daughter to eat of it as well. I also used a kohlrabi instead of the potato - I'm diabetic, so I tend to eat as little potato as possible - and also for the liquid to keep as clear as possible as I mentioned above. how about black lentils? those have a higher content of iron, and all my family needs it. I'll try black lentils next time. oh, and of course, I didn't blend any of it thanks for sharing!
