Argentinian watching this video here.. firstly you guys are adorable preparing your first mate! You really did not make a lot of mistakes in making it, the only advice (if there is a second time) is that we try not to wet the whole yerba at once and we don't move the straw at all, this helps your yerba not to get 'washed' too quickly and makes it last for longer. I'm very surprised you liked it in the first go! a lot of people find it too bitter at first, but I think your definition of its flavour as 'earthy' is on point. Thank you for this video, it is just lovely seeing people having a great time in Argentina :)

In Argentina we cook our meat more than in the US. This is kind of how it goes: Rare = we don't really cook it like that Medium/Rare = "jugoso" Medium/well = "a punto" Well donde = "cocido" From what I've seen in the US, I think that "jugoso" would be the way that most Americans would choose if they knew.
@nicoleandmico

We didn't know that fact! Thank you for sharing. Yes for us in Canada we would prefer jugoso too 😋

Love, love, love this kind of accumulative content review of an area. Markets and food fairs definitely deserve their own videos as you've done before but this is really a great highlight real. And I thought for sure one of you were going to pick up the tarta like a hand pie and just take a bite.

Traditionally, the "asado" (barbecue) was only beef, not pork, not chicken. In Patagonia, also lamb. In other areas (San Luis, Mendoza, part of Córdoba) also goat. The "chorizo" is a pork sausage. Here we eat it on point, not juicy. The "chocotorta" is a chocolate cookie cake, with dulce de leche and was chosen by Taste Atlas as the best dessert in the world. Saludos, desde la Provincia de Buenos Aires

Another Argentine here. Dulce de Leche is made with milk and sugar, it's not a caramel. There are videos of how to make Dulce del Leche with Condensed Sweet milk but I truly don't know how it will taste. You have milanesa de carne (cow), milanesa de pollo (chicken) and suprema (chicken breast only) all breaded. Nowadays you may find pork milanesas (like the german/austrian snitzel). There can be fried or cooked in the oven. Classic dish is milanesa "con papas fritas "(with french fries) or "con puré" (mashed potatoes or mashed pumpkin). If you want the fried eggs is "a caballo" ("on horse", never knew why). Other kinds is "a la napolitana" (italian heresy mixing something from milan and something from Naples, is with tomato slices and cheese). Another think is a milanesa sandwich, is you ask it "completo" ("complete") it will have tomato and lettuce. The "cheese curd" is a Provolone cheese slice with some spices and in this case with a tomato slice. We call them "Provoleta" . The chorizo was once only of pork. Now you can finde made with cow meat, but the best are the pork ones. The more traditional empanadas are of meat, but in different provinces they have different recipes. Some have egg, others have potato, olives or raisins. Then you have chicken, ham and egg. In some "cool" places they have "modern" flavours, even a "cheeseburger" empanada, but those are not traditional. The more industrial, made in central factories and sold in branches use letter codes in the "repulgue" which is the closing of the empanada. In the more traditional ones which use their recipes and cook them, each flavour has a special "repulgue" which traditionally tells which is the filling. Most places use oven, but you may find some places where they are fried. Be careful in this case because they can be very juicy and "explode" when you give the first bite and get stained. Remember "torta" is cake, "tarta" is pie. The "tarta" can be salty or sweet. Eg: Torta de Frutillas is probably a chocolate cake with strawberries filling. Tarta de Frutillas will be a pie filled with strawberry jam or fruit pieces. Usually we eat all of the pie, not only the filling. When drinking mate remember: the water should be at 70°C and never boil and do not touch the "bombilla" nor move it, because it may get clogged. When drinking mate in a group we share the mate and there is one person, the "cebador" (cebar is to prepare and fill the mate), who will fill the mate and give it to each person remembering who have already said "gracias" (thank you) that means he/she doesn't want any more and must be skipped. You must always drink all the water in the mate before returning it to the "cebador". You missed, unfortunately: -ice cream -choripan (the chorizo in sandwich, very common as streen food) -facturas (pastries) and medialunas (different of the croissants).

Nice try, but almost every dish/treat was wrong, sorry. 1st: You buy alfajores in a kiosco (candy shop) or a supermarket, those "gourmet" ones may be good but aren't the real thing. 2nd: Best milanesas are made with a cut we call "peceto" (eye of round) , also good are the less expensive of "nalga" (top round); chicken milanesas aren't the first thing to go. 3rd: That steak was overcooked even for argentineans, that was dry. 4th: Never in my long life I've seen a provoleta with a slice of tomato on top, NEVER; provoleta is made grilled, not in a mould. 5th: That was a shame, not a chorizo, it looked more like a fat sausage than a chorizo. 6th: Abadejo al roquefort is a french recipe (L'églefin au fromage), we have many and more common recipes than that. 7th: If those empanadas tasted like a taco then you didn't eat empanadas, they taste NOTHING like a taco. 8th: THAT IS NOT A CHOCOTORTA!!! Chocotorta is made with chocolate cookies (not a sponge cake) soaked in coffee, milk or both (some sweet wine can be added) and the filling is a mix of cream cheese and dulce de leche. 9th: There are as many tartas as you can imagine, you can put almost anything in a filling but the most usual are chard or spinach, tuna (this recipe came from Spain)(those are the most common on the thursday and wednesday before Easter when christians can't eat red meat) and pumpkin. Can tell anything about the mate preparation because I don't like it, yes, I'm from Argentina and I don't like mate 🤷.

11:30... you dont want to eat the Tarta like that... nobody does... it should be eaten together with masa, which in English we could call dough... so we cut it with the knife and have a piece of that. You'll enjoy the tarta's flavors more if you have a triangular or square slice and use the crispy masa to help you taste and appreciate the rich filling. Cutting the tarta into portions and pairing it with the masa allows you to fully experience the flavors and textures in each bite. The masa acts as a vehicle
