This recipe is our typical Huli-thovve recipe although we rarely use tamarind in thovve. Some families use the above recipe for bisibelebaath! Our version of kadle kaalu( Kaala channa)-egg plant or greens or Ash gourd or mixed vegetables or bottle guard(sorey kaayi),sambhar is very different. I will post our version-pressure cook the kadle kaalu(pulses) or blackeyed beans(alasande)with little oil, turmeric & little salt. In a seperate pan add little oil, mustard & little methi, 1-2 red chillies, hing & curry leaves, after it crackels add the chopped vegetables & salt & let it cook. In the meantime-dry roast 2Tablespoon corriander seed, 1-11/2 tea spoon jheera, red chillies according to taste, curry leaves, very little methi(maybe half tea spoon, pinch of hing,few sticks of cinnamon, curry leaves(please note-you may add an onion while roasting( elders in the family may not eat),& add 1 Tablespoon of raw rice(optional) & blend with 1-2Table spoon of fresh coconut or dessicated coconut or according to your taste & 1-2 Serving spoon of the cooked kaalu. Mix it with cooked vegetables, tamarind extract & boil. I don’t add jaggery. Other variation is to cook the pulses with a tea spoon of rasam powder & follow the above. You may reduce addition of red chillies if using rasam powder. Adding cooked kaalu helps in thickening. As an option you can cook half cup of thor dhal but I prefer without dhal as kaalu sambhar gives a unique taste of its own!

My grandma used to put only 3 ingredients,They are. Kadlebele 2 spoons,Dhaniya 3 spoons,5 byadgi menasinakai 3 Guntur menasinakai little tamarind and coconut or kobbari, fry all these and grind and add to the boiled vegetables and little togaribele,great taste ,please try,Thumba chennagirathe in your words😄 please try

I love your recipes, watching them and trying to figure out how I can make them. I don’t understand the audio, but I can make out from video. Just couldn’t figure out what the white vegetable was, that was added to sambhar. Please let us know.
