The Christmas Gherkin (pickle)! My grandfather had an old glass pickle ornament from his childhood. He’d hide it somewhere on the tree or in the house, and when the entire family spent Christmas Day at my grandparents’ home we had to find the pickle. Whoever found it got a coveted box of See’s Chocolates. The tradition (minus the chocolates) was from my Grandfather’s childhood in Chicago with German-American parents who had immigrated in the 1930s. I now have German in-laws who think I’m hallucinating when I talk about the Christmas Gherkin, so I’m fairly certain this is an American thing from around the late 1800s/early 1900s when German-made glass ornaments were really popular.

I've made very nice quilted potholders that can be used also as a decorative wall hanging. For the inside, one can use old flannel bedsheets or terry cloth. I use a layer or two of batting, thermal fiber and/or flannel. It absorbs heat very well and protects your hands. What's also great is that one can wash them over and over without damaging them . I still use my potholders after many, many years of use.

Bahahaha the edits in this one had me cackling! 😂 Favorite deli food: Isaly's chipped ham. It's a Pittsburgh thing, and I miss it so much. My mom would just douse it in Heinz ketchup and call it "chipped ham bbq" - a slightly less messy alternative to sloppy joes. A genuine staple of my childhood. 😅

Christmas Pickles!!!!! my dad loved pickles. LOVED them. so, on Christmas, we always gave him one of those gallon jugs of huge pickles. he would open that first and eat a huge pickle while the rest of the family opened presents. ho ho ho Christmas Pickles.

We don't have a proper deli here but I love any and all of the olives. Those fabrics are incredible. I especially enjoy the santa hat skeletons and deathflakes; it's very Gothmas. They would all make such a wildly chaotic crazy quilt together.

I so needed to see crazy fabric at this moment. I was using my knitting machine and all the knitting fell off right before this video started. Luckily I was able to hang my stitches back up from the ribbing and just a few rows had to be frogged. I got some really cool alien christmas fabric that is destined to become a stocking for my fiance. He is a big alienware/alien in general guy. I'm not sure I like ceviche but I will always go for a classic jojo/potato wedge. I made a cool half square triangle turned to stars table runner a few years ago, though my son has stolen it as his crazy scarf so it lives in his room with his dragon hoard of goodies. Just saying HST are quick and easy.

Unhinged Xmas patchwork skirt to go with ugly Xmas sweater. You can have the top be the fabric and quilt it to flannel or corduroy so it's nice and warm. Favorite deli item is bagels and schmere

I like the idea of placemats. Whole cloth, not pieced. Also, as a whole different direction, you could make yourself a festive item of clothing. if you sew all the fat quarters together so it’s yardage shaped, you could then make a skirt or blouse or something. I didn’t count, but six fat quarters would give you a yard and a half of 43-44” fabric. Maybe a gored skirt with every other panel in a solid color? Or you could go back to Joann’s and get more unhinged fabric as yardage! Make a whole dress! Yeah … or maybe placemats. 😂 I have too many ideas. 🥰

I have santa skull PJ pants that I wear all winter. I'd make a whole outfit of it if I could find the fabric... one year I put colour-changey LED skulls in my xmas tree with santa hats on them, so... yeah. And the skeletons must be dancing to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve in Sarajevo. And I'd totally wear skullflakes too. I kinda feel like you could kinda quilt/patchwork an apron for yourself out of some of the unhinged fabric and with the rest you could do Victorian Crazy Quilting and maybe make gift bags with them. (Shanon Makes did a couple videos on the crazy quilting, great way to use up any leftover bits of almost anything). Deli food? I'm honestly not sure what counts as deli food, I so rarely buy prepared food these days. Maybe sushi?

Not gunna lie. I love those fabrics! Jente of Mijn Wolden recently made a pair of skullflake mittens for a friend. So I'm wondering about incorporating those fabrics into garments, maybe with some theming, so that the dinosaur-pulled sleigh goes with the completely wild print with unicorns and dinosaurs & starfish santas. And the skeletal ones could go together in another garment. Some years ago now a woman in Australia made a bit of a splash in the fashion and craft scene by making men's shirts that looked perfectly conventional when the wearer had their jacket on but which then revealed wildly colourful sleeves and backs when the jacket was removed. Perhaps you could go for that kind of concept. Other than sewing hexagons together by hand in grade 8 at school, I've never done any patchworking. My impression is that it is a whole other craft and, frankly fairly labour intensive. So while I think those fabrics could make an awesome wild Christmas patchwork quilt, I wouldn't even dream of trying to finish it for this Christmas. Maybe next if the spirit moves you.
