Something I noticed James does is he makes an interesting/nice exterior with little to no interior walls, and then when he's satisfied with the wall and roof placement he would move inside and figure out the layout.

Weirdly enough, Deli, I feel like this house is one of the best builds you have done in a while! Not me agreeing or disagreeing with everything you place 😭😂😂 the thing about James is it depends on his building style mood that day. James is 9/10 consistent with use of space, realism, something Batuu, and creativity. Everything else is a dice roll LOL. I genuinely stand on the fact that it depends on his mood and inspiration/reasoning of the build. It ranges from silly vs serious James, no rush on time vs quick renovation james, super thought out and inspired vs its functional and gets the job done James lol nothing beside Batuu is his signature if you ask me because he’s so versatile depending on the build itself! i havw an idea! both you and James are building at the same time without seeing each others screens. I'm glad you're feeling better, Deli (plus I can just imagine double-antibiotics or super strong antibiotics would be awful and no coffee is rough though I'm glad it helped you figure out that you prefer one cup in the end.) And you did a great job with the build! It looks so good; this would be a great rental or a nice upgrade for an established family; could easily convert the gym into a different skill-building room if needed. I also especially loved the roof, it turned out so unique, realistic, and cool looking; those are always tough when diagonals are involved. He definitely breaks his exteriors up with interesting features (the custom planters, privacy windows/shades, and decking felt spot-on) and strategic use of different wall textures outside and inside with feature walls. And James *has* branched out into more colors (especially depending on the Sims living there) so I think he was just teasing you about the bedrooms being too colorful, they're definitely his speed IMHO. 😂I'm glad you added in those paintings, I think it needed them. I think like most people James doesn't think about how he builds, he just kind of does it, so most of the time he had no idea how to respond or else it mimicked his style so far back that he wasn't sure how he'd progressed or it just wasn't something you'd normally do so you made sure to do it but he also doesn't do that particular thing all the time so he kind of assumed you meant all the time even though you noted it was sometimes. You're right though, he does think in very practical terms (not always but frequently lol and don't feel too bad about the hanging plant, we've all done that, he's done it too and had to fix it after noticing.) As someone else said James focuses on the exterior first and then does the floor plan (sometimes modifies it but mostly sticks with what he did) so sorting it out as you'd normally do, then getting the outside done, and adjusting as you went is a good combo of both your styles. I definitely get altering it to your own tastes too because you should always build something you'd enjoy and in general it's hard to mimic someone else's style! Well, some people might be easier than others, you should try doing this with LilSimsie over Twitch sometime! Or if you want some real chaos, maybe DrGluon! Or any number of Simmers, that could be a fun series of challenges but I'd be intimidated to find out how close I got. 😅 This was a really fun challenge and I'm glad you got to branch out while introducing elements of one of your favorite Sims 3 builds into the Sims 4! Plus I never thought to use the half walls with fencing, that's a cool way to break it up when you aren't using pillars, especially since sometimes the auto-fencing placement for the posts is really annoying otherwise. ☺

0:55 yeah but you’re describing everything I build too 😭 nailed me on “functional, technical, black and white”, I’ve noticed that femme persona simmers tend to play off of color contrast (and thank you for it!) where the masculine/guy phenotypes mostly play with contrast in black and white, perhaps with a few accenting colors along the way. Very different styles and this video is a fascinating concept. James has some specific touches I’ve noticed watching his older streams over the past few months, he almost always leans into base game or singular packs and tries to find similar style vibes in others while keeping it all entirely playable and believable, no matter the budget. I actually really admire it, he, you, Plumbella, LimSimsie and Kate Emerald have taught me way more about architecture and flow than I ever considered and I’m genuinely thankful for it. Also, glad you’re feeling better!

4:30 correct, the master bedroom should always have the best view of the given natural feature. Same with the dining room and if possible the den/family parlor and primary office. all other rooms including the kitchen, any guest or “extra” spaces, meh who cares. Stick them wherever.

5:27 yep, me too. I do windows long before any furniture or decor gets applied. I make sure to space/test objects when I’m sizing out rooms but I’m used to it by now. Bathroom is 3x2 or 4x3, bedrooms must be at least 3x4 for a single bed and preferably 5x4 for a double, kitchen is usually 4x3 or 6x3 depending on the config, dining room and den are usually pretty even at 5x5 or more depending on lot size. Windows? I love natural light and I think it helps the game feel more alive, so I go nuts with windows, and I try to stick to playing with symmetry on conventional builds and asymmetry on modern builds. Also; this monster you’re building looks like it’s going to be hell on earth to roof lol

For a Sulani build I see a lot of pale wood and “Retro Lux” in light beige with some accenting stone, probably from eco lifestyle or the fitness stuff pack. Maybe the marble from get famous, or concrete depending on the “class dynamic” of the house he’s building. A yuppie beach modern? Concrete, pale wood, white paint and probably some trim somewhere in gray

Can't say I've ever encountered a loo roll that was that easy to smack around and unravel, and with the useful end at the back, it's harder to grab. There is one solid excuse for having the paper wall-side. If you have pets that play with it and unravel it, reversing the direction will keep it from coming unfurled when they paw at it. If they tear it up with their teeth, though... nothing for it but to take it off the mount and keep it in a pet-proof container.

You guys should do a build together where you each build a single wall at a time. You cannot change any walls added or make suggestions for what to do. Use a wheel to choose the amount of rooms and floors (including basement). Use another wheel to determine style of home and decor, like modern, farmhouse, Mediterranean. I think that'd be fun 😊
