Does a soft life really exists?
@LadyErnst
@LadyErnst 3 ай бұрын
My husband prefers me as a Housewife as well. As a result I tend to be more relaxed and calm. I never dealt with the idle mind, thank you Jesus. I went right into health and wellness, my hobbies (vocal and piano lessons), volunteering at my church/church events, and the usual domestic duties. I think a soft life is about balance. Like you mentioned, a Housewife/homemaker has many skills and has to wear many hats but the balance is our Husband’s; He who protects, provides, and leads according to Gods word will naturally have a happy wife and home. The soft life is a quiet life in my opinion. My/our lifestyle is the internets trend paired with unrealistic expectations.

I think it does, but not something everyone has access to. Especially in a time with hyperinflation it’s getting more difficult for families to survive on one income. And for someone single they would still need to work to achieve this type of lifestyle

I completely agree, I don't believe just like you, that working woman is bad , but I just believe that there is a level of untruth when it comes to a quote un quote , soft life or a peaceful life. peace is found in jesus and him alone. As a mother of 3, starting a military move there is nothing soft about my life at this time but there is so much peace because of Our savior walking beside me.

You are saying many things I have felt. I also struggled when I first experienced being a stay at home wife, “exposed” is a great way to describe it. I work part time and make sure to be intentional with my time off, I’m blessed to have that time and want to make the most of it. Cooking, painting, hiking, trips to my local creek, reading, bible study, spending time with family members, I try to keep myself occupied. Days spent idle on social media or tv are no good.

I’m currently a stay at home wife and I agree. The “soft” aka idle life is not it! Quiet life. Purposeful life. Intentional life is where it’s at. The attacks on my mind definitely increased when I stopped working but I’m taking it back! ❤

Yes!! Not sure if you’re a Christian but Philippians 4:8 is something to ponder on when this happens! It literally tells us what to think on! So if thoughts come that you don’t like, ask yourself is this loving? And then think on things that are 🥹 It helped me so much and sometimes I’d need to keep reciting it over and over but the next day I’d need to recite it a little less🫶🏽

I'm a new SAHW. My husband works FIFO so he likes when hes home I'm home to spend time with him rather than only seeing me in the evenings after work. So we decided it was ok for me to quit my job (which at the time was very toxic) and live off his income which is more then enough. I'm not super career driven and I don't mind doing the housework so we can just relax the week hes home. I also have alot of hobbies that I work on so I'm never not doing something at home but I love not having to go to work everyday. When I want extra money for holidays I just do contract work but its on my terms. People think its goes against the feminism movement but isn't the purpose of that the right to choose what we want to do? If you want to work you can - if you don't you can do that too. Not everyone's purpose is to climb a corporate ladder - just my take :)

I thought this was a really good discussion! In a week or so, it will be one year since leaving my corporate job and the peace is unmatched. I am much less irritable and like you said I have the luxury of time (for now) to work around my home and serve more at church and actually have free time (for now 😂). You made a really good point about how it’s important to keep yourself on a schedule and NOT BE IDLE in your downtime. Being a homemaker definitely isn’t a workless era 😅but it is peaceful indeed!

I’m a mom to a 2-year old and when I say this is the hardestttt job I’ve ever done. 9-5s, you get to clock out. Moms/homes require 24/7 dedication. Honestly if I have another kid and my hubby and I debate who’ll work and who’ll stay at home, I’ll take the work 🤣 soft life is not the correct term. Work is still required in soft life, even if that’s mental work… it’s no escaping.

I deeply appreciate this perspective of feminity. I’m not yet a mother or a wife, but I hope to be one day. I’m also someone who’s always been academically driven. I’m in my early 20s and pursuing a career in medicine, I’m passionate about health equity. For me it’s not just about having a career, it’s about a passion. Although I consider myself to be feminine and have been told so by others, I feel like I don’t fit into the feminine mold because of my long term career goals. But I think it’s possible to be both soft and bold. Femininity requires a balance of both, not the absence of one in place of the other.

I was unemployed for many years and my mental health was a mess. I never want to be unemployed again unless I have children. When you have kids its a totally different story. Recently I wanted to visit my sister and her kids but now that she is working she was too tired and postponed the visit. The kids are also less nourished. She is lass available for everyone includig me. There is no bigger blessing for the entire family than a balanced, rested, happy feminine women. When a women wants to be a homemaker without kids she can pursue her passion sidehussle that is not many hours a week. Then she can be still a rested soft homemaker and feel a purpose ❤

I worked up until I got married. I became a stay at home wife and now I am a stay at home mother. Something I have found is that there is always more that I can do to improve my home, improve my parenting, improve my relationship with God or with my husband, etc... Being a stay at home wife/mom is only boring if you are choosing to be lazy and a bad steward of your time. Look around and allow God to show you how you can improve on things and make your life more like the life He wants for you.

This lifestyle can be fulfilling, but it requires ongoing growth to prevent boredom or listlessness. Comparison can be the thief of joy, and can make this challenging. On slower days, scrolling through social media might trigger a sense of wanting something more, not to work in a traditional sense necessarily, but more meaning and purpose which I find strange given all that one does as a sahw/sahm. However, practicing gratitude for the work you’re doing and recognizing the impact of your role on your family helps keep you grounded, and staying true to your intrinsic values and desires. It is also essential to have a plan for your day, prioritizing your mental, physical, and spiritual health. Use this time to cultivate creativity, improve management and problem-solving skills, serve your home, and focus on personal development. Still, the thoughts can seep in at times as a SAHW you can find self wanting something, but need to recognize and not take for granted the work that can be done before children come into the equation. Keeping these thoughts in check, and continuing to serve someone or something outside of yourself and not listening to social media, and it's persistent pressure of being influenced to be something else other than who you are called to be is apart of maintaining a peaceful life as a SAHW
