So leading to this finale, Kathy just decides to abandon a whole colony, without having spoken to any of them to see if they would be open to returning to Earth, and was also set on leaving even without her dad as well before he made the jump, to die slowly as resources dwindled. Like I can understand making a decision like this if there’s no other option because they refuse to return, and also if they were to threaten Kathy to stay, but for her to make such a quick decision without getting to know who these survivors are after what they went through to see if they changed or get them to board the Ark. For those who may reply, know that I enjoyed the game and the story, but when it got to this point I was not understanding Kathy’s motivation, or her reasoning for leaving to die possibly dozens, or hundred people, and I never got the feeling she would make this decision unless there was no other way, but it had not arrived to that point, and Kathy just jumped straight to “let’s take the Ark by any means and leave”. I welcome opinions and discussions to see if I can find an explanation to this, or just share in the same confusion 😂

Yes, that was a very questionable part - seemed she just blanked out after she realised her dad didn't want to return to Earth...then just dragged herself along with whatever Sarah (my least favourite character) was planning. As Sarah said before, Kathy wasn't super interested in saving Earth previously, so it's quite weird that she took such drastic action. Could be that after seeing all the crap that happened with the original Outward group she just was not interested/did not see any hope for Mars long term? But in my opinion it's not as if their current Earth had much hope either...what happened with the Outward group is almost a mirror image of how humans behave on Earth, just on a smaller scale. I guess the point of the game is that there's no black & white answer to our problems. The ending to the game with her dad's monologue saved the story a bit for me, I was almost thinking the devs had gone for the pure hope/idealistic way of thinking, but really they were just showing one timeline/path of the story while making it clear that it wasn't a guaranteed good ending, and showing some of the consequences of the character's choices...

I think if it were a bigger game we'd be able to make decisions and get multiple endings/story branches, but I guess since it's a smaller budget game they just picked a set path for us.

just finished this game, and the ending leaves lots of questions. I’m assuming the next game (if there is one) will be on Earth since Mission Control didn’t respond

A couple things bug me but thays sorta what happens when you leave the ending open ended. Im not going to mention anything about the colony because there is a chance others could have got on habitas and we dont know the ultimate fates of all the colonists just the ones who managed to storm the bridge. All of the ambiguity does leave some interesting ideas for a sequal and possible plot lines. Why is earth not responding? What will happen when they reach earth? Maybe we are going to have a game inbovling underwater secrions? Since earth is either flooding or becoming desert?

Aye, WSA (NASA) is evil, if they land on Earth Isaac will be imprisoned or executed and 2 ARKs torn to pieces, parts sold and traded for fuel and stuff, no miraculous saving Earth will happen. So in the end Mars' colony will die and so shall Earth. That is how human race works.

No, the game is linear or I guess wide linear. There are some wide areas you could explore along the way, find some collectibles, but ultimately your goal is finding your way from point A to point B.

Still in shock, after finally playing it, just *how* much this wasted its story beats which are really cool. And the vistas of Mars are breathtaking. And instead we get focus on bad interiors, bad texture quality and very badly animated and designed faces to distract us from the talks between characters, all while the story clearly had major parts stripped out to fit the small budget leading to the tone jumping all over the place and crescendoing into this truly awful ending that comes out of nowhere. I *bet* there was an arc (pun intended) in there that explained the shift over to this, but sadly it was never included in the game. Truly disappointing to play this. Ah well, maybe the third game will hit the mark.
