Absurd jumps in tech (We'll transfer your mind... because we can cobble together a mind transfer machine... because that's a thing.) Ancient civilization that had the ability to go to Earth and make Massive changes to DNA (granting immortality among other things)... but never got around to Earth while they were waiting to die... they were "greedy" so must have breathed all the air and water... Spaceballs had a more likely premise. Mystery Box with nothing in it but a sermon. JJ Abrams would be proud.
