1:00 Fun Fact: Pigeons are some of the fastest fliers in the animal kingdom. A pigeon is faster than a falcon when flying straight, which is why falcons need to go high then dive down in order to catch up to pigeons.

I also think that the pigeon was using the wave of air generated by the front of the car like ducks and geese do those V formations when flying south for the winter.

Which is why they were used to carry notes back in the day. Carrier Pigeons are extinct now, but they were just as fast, if not faster, than the urban pigeon.
@commode7xАй бұрын
It's also why falcons were completely abandoned as a way to intercept carrier pigeons, in favor of machine guns. Falcon anti-pigeon interceptors were always an experimental technology and had always struggled to be accepted by the military brass. The fact that the use of falcons to intercept pigeons first happened ten years after the invention of the first mass produced rapid-firing mechanized gun didn't help.

Geese are pretty good at warning/alerting things. They use them in prison in South America to warn on convicts trying to escape. They have lots of geese on a perimeter fence (blocked in by another fence/wall) and whenever someone approaches the fence they start honking and sounding off lol. So it alerts all the guards immediately. They notice people from far away and will come running and honking. They have 10x better night vision than humans and it costs FAR less than technology or additional guards or dogs.

@aa-ze5czАй бұрын
@@emilyb4702 lol yah, and apparently if folks do make it over the fence into the geese area, they do attack. While geese really don't do any damage (they don't peck or anything) they are aggressive and will chase fly up at you... and often times people try to run away from them and trip/fall and that can result in an injury (broken bone, hit head, twisted ankles, etc.). Kind of like donkeys with protecting sheep/cattle, etc. They are cheaper than dogs, live longer, are cheaper to feed, they have excellent eyesight, are EXTREMELY territorial, will kill coyotes, dogs, and lone wolves, etc. and have a very distinct and noisy hee-haw that alerts farmers.

Did you know pigeons will sequester heavy metals in their feathers if they accidentally ingest some? Also pigeons can learn to recognize certain words, which means they can scan an ingredients list for specific allergens as aid animals. (They will 'attack' the food item to indicate its unsafe. Very helpful for children or those who struggle with the small font of ingredients lists)
