Loved the story of your wife's healing and especially watching you and your two young men getting ready for delivery. It looks like I just may be the only female commenter but it won't bother me if it doesn't bother you. Love the Garage! We finished a 12x40 Derksen when we lived in Missouri, that place is loaded with termites and roaches and we never had any issues with it. The wood they use is pretty crazy, I left a cutt off outside from a window I installed for 2 years and it never swelled or rotted one bit.

Karl just found your Channel. My Wife and I live in a 14x40 tiny house 1bed 1bath pouch is half octagon with a 10 by 28 deck off the side. I put ours on a concrete slab blocked up 18in and insulated bored for skirting around the bottom. I don't know how they did your ridge cap on your house mine they just put tar paper across and left 11/2 gap for ventilation. Do not put any styrofoam for bird stop or insect and got a exterminator called them water ants little black ants move slow had to have them come and spray. Just a little FYI so you don't have that problem. But now we're in Tennessee on Norris Lake like you in the woods all alone. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours good luck.

Nice idea to have a garage for storage next to the cabin. I do have a thought about security of the garage. Even though there is a secure garage door and side door and there are no windows, the sheet metal outer covering is easily cut into to access the interior, so I’m wondering if it would be a good to insulate it between the studs and put up OSB as an interior wall covering. Those additions are a more significant deterrent to a thief because it is not as easy as cutting a hole in the sheet metal.
@nimrod2754 жыл бұрын
If the turds want in they will get in no matter what you do. It’s sad but true. Use a few trail cameras around the property and inside your buildings in hopes it catches useful evidence to aid an investigation.

If you haven't done your finished flooring yet,, put some double bubble reflectix down first.. I just did that on a recent video of my cabin and it makes a world of difference.. I even show what happens when you stand on a metal stool that is on the reflectix,, nothing.. It doesn't "pop" or give.. I live in southern Arizona and I also am worrying about it being cold.. Karl, can you get your cabin in a 16 x 56 foot floorprint? I am wondering if you can get the two levels (main floor level and loft level) 8 foot high so you can have a regular stair case put in to access the second level? I probably will not build one myself but several family members are interested in their options.
@karlsoffthegrid13784 жыл бұрын
john klenzak You can just about have it built to any size you want. Keep in mind, if you are having a cabin delivered it’s hard to transport a Taller cabin because of electrical wires over the road. If you choose to have them build it on your property then I don’t think it would be an issue

I thought that was part of the idea being off grid was the security. We never worried about anyone when we lived on our farm 1 mile away from anyone but this is Southern West Virginia and the crime rate isn’t bad ....except for the drug addicts now but not bad at all. The only thing I have lost in over 50 years is a generator and it was sitting out with no chain or anything.
