A bit late, but now that I've had my dell G3 for a while, I must say that I am satisfied with it. I have the i5 and 1660ti config, but for the most part, it does fine in games that I play. After an undervolt, it stays cool enough to not thermal throttle, but it still is quite toasty at around 84 degrees for the cpu in games. To anyone thinking about buying this laptop: I wholeheartedly recommend it.

As I begin to research my next laptop to buy, I'm starting to appreciate how everything really does depend on where you live lol. I'm in the UK, and when you reference models like the helios 300 and lenovo y540 as equivalent price points to the G3, but better performance, it just doesn't translate as well for UK buyers as it does for AUS and US consumers. Specifically, the 16gb ram and non max Q 1660ti helios 300 and lenovo y540 are consistently £300 more expensive (~£1300 for both) than the 16gb ram 1660ti max q G3 in the UK (~£1000). And this is across the board at all retailers, even Amazon. So for UK buyers, Dell seems to be best value when it comes to G3 vs helios 300 vs lenovo y540. You're essentially paying £300 more for non max Q 1660ti devices. It sucks, because the helios 300 seems like a glorious machine for ridiculous value in AUS and the US, but I'm not prepared to pay £300 more than the G3. Your videos are amazingly useful thus far though!

This G3 is by far the best bang for the buck I could get here in my country , it costed me 21000 MXN (880 usd equivalent) . The Lenovo Y540 with the same specs cost 36000 MXN . For the price that I paid for this G3 at most you get the Nvdia 1050 here so far In very happy with the G3 . No issues whatwoever as for now

@@arda7881 the cooling is not bad , with a cooling pad I get temperatures of 78c WITHOUT undervoltage so with UV it should be way better. The screen is not bad , it can play HDR videos with color good enough .

2:35 - Here's the advice which is very important to prevent hinge accident. When opening and/or closing the laptop, I use 2 index/thumb fingers from both hands, one is opening or closing the laptop exactly right in the middle edge only (never use left or right corners more importantly) and one is holding the laptop exactly right in the middle edge as well.

I've had mine for almost a year now and I'm disappointing in the hardware of it. I've taken care of my laptop like it was my baby, but the manufacturing was so poor that merely opening my laptop over and over again snapped a plastic piece loose in the hinge, which ended up wedging between the screen and the plastic covering, killing my screen. The repair was 250 which was a huge disappointment considering I had been very gentle with it. Only a month after the repair, I noticed one tiny white dead pixel. I can't explain how frustrated I am with it. Not to mention all of the black plastic on the inside scratches easily, revealing the bright blue underneath. Not to mention the fan acts really weird. It runs super hard when it doesn't need to (like when watching a yt video), and doesn't seem to run enough sometimes. Once I was using a digital art program and it overheated badly because the fan refused run harder (even after hitting the G button). Maybe Im just bad with computers but this one has been pretty frustrating. Couldn't recommend. If you know any solutions to my problems pls hit me up edit: I forgot, it also pinches your legs if you open it with shorts on. not. fun.

undervolting this cpu and gpu on this computer are basically necessary and before i undervolt my temps i sit at 99c regularly, within 20 seconds of undervolting the temps drop to 73-77c if you want to keep your laptop running, please use throttle stop, that program i feel has saved me a laptop from cooking it self. and there is 0 notice in fps or graphics

We were able to buy this at $600 on sale on bestbuy, I’m rocking the i5-9300H and 1660 ti max q, Performs well when undervolted 0.120v, can turbo at max stable, when in stock I run into problems like thermal throttling because of the weather condition here in the Philippines...now Im planning to buy a cooling pad because i saw how well it helps here on your reviews... thanks for the review i was waiting for this before buying it but its on sale so I immediately grabbed it... come on its on sale everyone likes sales LOL 🤣🤣🤣... I do have same issue with the Alienware Command Center it does the same, at first it will ramp up the fan and then immediately rundown the RPM of the fans, opening up the App fixes it though, maybe its bug for Dell to fix

It's a shame that Dell still can't figure out good thermal management, yet one of the selling points on their website is how "cool to the touch" these laptops are thanks to a dual fan cooling system. If that was my laptop, I'd repaste with a much better thermal compound or liquid metal, undervolt as much as I could without sacrificing performance, and get a cooling pad with an air conditioner attached to it.

If you liquid metal a laptop it becomes warmer to the touch because more heat is being moved trough the heatsink but the CPU and GPU will be cooler. With thermal paste it is cooler to touch but your CPU and GPU will be warmer because less heat is being moved through the heatsink. Unless you give a laptop extra fans to just cool the interior you have 1 drawback for the other. I personally prefer warmer exterior and better performance. But I know many people who prefer worse performance while having a cooler exterior.

i bought it 4 monthes ago 1- over heat from leagueoflegends game and sometimes if freezes (you must restart) 2-you should always connect the charger because you cannot play any game with at least normal performance wihtout charger i dont know if its bad or not but you can comment below and tell me your experiences with it!!

Yea it heats up but I just undervolt (-125v but 150 works but blue screens r there) and cooling pad. Yea gaming laptops in general usually don’t last that long when gaming on battery, but considering this has a small battery, the battery life is shorter than most. The freezing happens to me and yes u do restart but to me it doesn’t even matter, as long as I can play my games I’m good. I have the model as show in the vid and I’m considering changing next year to prob a msi gs66 or anything premium, and I did buy the laptop around Jan-feb.

I cant play warzone, with exactly the same computer with same specs, but 8gb ram, im going to upgrade it but not yet, y try the game in ultra or low, but when y shoot, the game lowers fps and it is unplayable, I think i have to download and configure throttlestop(or another program that you know it works) and undervolt for temperatures, but i dont know how to configure it, PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME, I buy this same laptop to play it and i cant, my temperatures dont go over 74ºC.

From what I know, don't update to the last BIOS update or the undervolting wont be possible (you can downgrade to an older version of the BIOS, check reddit). On ThrottleStop change from SpeedStep to SpeedShift and try putting value 0. On the FIVR tab, underclock to the max you can without BSOD or crashing games (mine can undervolt to -132.8, both on CPU and Cache). Also, don't check BD PROCHOT so it doesn't throttle the GPU when the CPU hits about >80°, this makes a huge difference in some games, like in Dying Light going from barely 4 fps to 40-60 fps. I suggest you a cooling pad if you want a bit more of performance

That room temp will definitely make a big difference to what I'm showing, generally 1c increase to room temp = 1c increase to internals, undervolting / cooling pad would be your best bet.

That bug with the alienware command center is due to the windows 1903 update. It operates normally as it should on 1809. You can also pick up the i5 9300h with 1660ti model at bestbuy right now for $799 if you are signed up for student deals. At that price it's hard to go wrong.

Jarrod'sTech the main problem I’m having is a no sleep issue that seems to be shared between 3 I’ve exchanged out as well as the display at my work. All are the model I mentioned. None of the computers will reliably sleep/or sleep period on any of the available bios. If you still have the unit would you mind telling me what bios it is on and if it sleeps properly? I would greatly appreciate it. Currently working with Dell to correct the issue.

Never tested HP so can't comment there, but the Nitro 5 has higher CPU power limit, non Max-Q graphics assuming you're looking at a 1660 Ti model, and better fan control.

The hinge is incredibly flimsy. There are like 20 reports of broken hinges on the dell support forums. Happened to me as well.

I needed a new laptop, and I seen this machine on Dell's website. I've never owned a gaming laptop (heck, not even a regular gaming computer), so I seen this as a good starting point. I got the cheapest model they had at the time, and have been using it regularly up until recently. Now that over a year has passed, I can safely say that I don't recommend this to ANYBODY looking for a good gaming laptop. And that is because of one thing: The hinge's design is flawed, and will break after a while. A few months ago, I noticed the hinge connecting the screen to the base of the laptop breaking loose. I didn't pay it any mind, as it was still working perfectly fine without showing any signs of breaking any further than that. A day later however, it snapped completely. The hinge became completely unusable, and the screen couldn't stand up any longer. Screws were flung everywhere, wires and metallic bits were poking out and breaking off, and it became literally unusable. I decided to take a look online, see if it was a one-off issue or something. But no, it wasn't. Many people were having the exact same issue, some of them even having this occur DAYS after they arrived. It's extremely wide-spread, and Dell have made no effort to fix it. I do not recommend getting this at all, even if that price seems tempting.

This is normal, like when I don’t just play on the desktop and almost nothing is turned on, my CPU temperature jumps 50-57-69-75 and in games 50-60-70-80-95 it’s bad or not the same laptop

It has a potmeter where you can adjust the power of the vacuum cooler`s fans, but there`s no way to measure the speed of it of course, moreover, there`s no way to determine the speed of the coolers inside the notebook. Therefore he said that if the vacuum cooler`s fans are faster than the coolers inside the notebook, it can ruin the thole of the coolers inside the laptop. What do you say, is it true or it is just a fantasy of his simple mind? And what do you think, is it worth to keep this vacuum cooler alongside with Dell G3? Because in case of the Ideapad Y510p there were blow-holes on the side of the notebook where you can easily fit the vacuum cooler, but in case of Dell G3 it`s not so simple because as far as I see it has a blow-hole right below the hinge and in my view it couldn`t be simple to fit the vacuum cooler there because of the hinge itself....or what is your recommendation at all, what is the best cooler to use alongside with Dell G3 3590? I did have a dell G3 3590 and believe me it's the worst laptop I have ever used in terms of build quality and performance. I think for that price there are a lot of better options in the market in Asus and lenovo brands

Thanks for review this product! I can´t believe that Dell is so bad with audio latency matters, the same with the first G3, G5 and G7 models! Dell engineers clearly do not understand how music producers feels after buy one of this expensive products (yes! maybe cheap for gamers but a little expensive for music creation). My old Gateway laptop with i5 third generation is many times better in latency measures, using the very same LatencyMon software. I´m very dissapointed.......If any (important) guy from Dell read this post, PLEASE! The problem is in ACPI.SYS!!!!! Is that difficult?

The only problem I’ve had is that the W A S D keys - the keys I use the most - are already starting to come off. I got my computer less than 8 months ago, so this is a bit disappointing.

You can set games in AWCC to enable game shift without pressing the F7 at all. It’s smart enough to turn it off if a game isn’t running. It’s not a bug, and I have the latest windows installed. If you’re in Oz, watch out for Dell’s pricing. It’s usually higher. Got mine from retail for $200 AUD less, without sales, and slightly better config. Then use the savings to expand your storage on the free 2.5” slot if you bought one which comes with 512 GB SSD only, if you like. Caddy is included in the free slot.

Hey Jarrod! I have a serious problem with my G3: 1660Ti Max-Q i5 9300h 8GB RAM I have had problems in all the video games I have played, My gpu suddenly drops its performance, from 93% of use to 40% of use which lowers the FPS drastically even having a "normal" temperature in it (70 ° C) I have tried almost everything and I can not remove the instability of the GPU, I honestly don't know what to do:( And if I disconnect the power supply the gpu remains at 90% of stable use

I bought this laptop and loved it... until the hinge started creaking and then broke (through no force or abuse). Look online - many people have this issue and Dell support say it is a "known issue" - but they are still selling it. Not a problem if you never open and close your laptop. Now I'm going to have to send it into repair, and by all reports, it may break again. My advice: AVOID.
