@@sharukshanniranjan5352 haven't measured it because now the cpu can achieve higher clocks and temps.. so I had to limit temps and wattage with ryzen controller, but it's way more stable.. I play mostly avengers and doom eternal at almost everything ultra and have solid 60 fps with gpu maxing at 90% just in some cases it mostly runs at 60% to 85%

Thanks, dude! i used this on 1.14 BIOS. i got old 32mb usb flash drive so it was ok to write 0,5Mb file on it. now my CPU 4800H consumes 20-30 Watts instead of 70-100 Watts. Thanks!

I purchased this laptop recently and was amazed at how hot it gets. using the MSI Afterburner program, I saw that the processor consumes up to 90 watts and the video card up to 80. The temperature of the processor was about 70 degrees without any games, in games or other applications the temperature rose to 90-100 degrees. After turning off the smartshift function, the processor began to consume little energy, up to 30 watts, it began to heat up less. Now in games the temperature is 80-90 degrees, video cards are 70-75 degrees. I have thoughts to sell this laptop. I used it about 2 days in last month. It is very noisy and very hot.

@@b1tterman well, yesterday i also disabled smartshift, i still have to repaste and it does get hot, but in my case im pretty sure ill keep it, if u disable smartshift and the boost from the cpu i think u may get better temps. I did that and rn i can run elden ring on high settings with temps of like 75-80 gpu and less than 90c cpu without any repaste or maintenance yet. The performance improved A LOT, but disabling the boost altough it lowers a lot the temps gets u worse performance in a cpu demanding game like that, Elden ring for example is really playable like this for me still and i only have 8gb of ram. Later ill upgrade to 16 and probablly undervolt the cpu after repasting, im pretty sure it'll run smoothly after that but with the things i already did its pretty good tbh.(i have w10 ltsc and i also use ryzen controller to limit the cpu temps to 90, still testing tho, it is a bit noisy indeed but idc that much personally)

@@Raven-tl7hv u have to disable agressive turboboost. need to activate this option via regedit. with 2900MHz in Cyberpunk and RDR2 i got 70-75 degrees. performance still great. if u change maximum cpu performance to 99% u will have 1700mhz and 90 degrees.

yeah this should help. if you want to get even further stable performance out of this then watch my other video for underclocking. the values are hard to make out in the vid but in the description is a link to perfect quality screen shots. dell made a laptop they barely even tested. it simply isnt made for pumping as much through it as it does stock.

i also think that by default grub is set to use BIOS l. I had to change a line in my grub file so it would recognize UEFI. Istall osprober so you can view your NTFS (Windows) files. When installing any operating system it is always a good idea to have a live version available for recovery purposes. That live OS will be used as a tool to configure linux in scenarios where something is preventing a proper boot.

Hey man, appreciate the feedback. Doing any type of BIOS or firmware mod will void your warranty. Sometimes even upgrading your RAM will void a dell warranty. The video should still be up to date, just make sure you only change the values shown in the video. If it doesn't work send it to dell and act like it randomly died.

I want to do this because I want to be able to set specific games to run under high power mode in win10 settings. Whenever I run certain games, they run using GPU0 (integrated Radeon graphics) instead of GPU1 (Radeon RX 5600) and I can't change it no matter what. i had that problem too, i fixed it unstalling the amd drivers then installing the version that is for the laptop then thru the amd driver u install the last update. This is a complicated issue. I had the same issues going on and it was because I was using my external monitor. For some reason the HDMI rail is linked to GPU0 instead of GPU1 so no matter what game you are playing it will be rendered with GPU0 to output it to the external display. Most high end laptops do not have this issue because they are better engineered. Dell pushed a product that was not ready to be pushed.

You cannot drag and drop the files over to the flash drive unless you are using a UNIX terminal utility like dd. The flash drive must contain nothing else on it and it needs to be formatted using a tool like rufus or balena etcher.

i would say an estimated 20% more FPS on games that utilize just the 5600. the main determining factor for disabling smart shift is thermal output and stability. after disabling smart shift a good portion of this laptops problems seem to disappear.

@@krutraiyani8995 You need to do a system refresh. To do this you will have to get the factory ISO file for your specific computer and reinstall the entire operating system. I had those issues too because I uninstalled all of the preinstalled bloatware, but to my surprise there is no way to reinstall half of the required software to make that computer function as usual. To get your drivers, firmware, and various other software issues in check I would use snappydriver instead of the dell website. Snappydriver pulls from the most recent source, while dell just pushes whatever they feel like on their own website.

Disabling smart shift should improve battery life. Keep in mind that most battery life related issues are because of power settings, screen brightness, and the amount of (background) processes running. Different programs consume different amounts of resources.

@@jamesstuller6964 Nope, it doesn't matter what driver is installed. It even crashes on Linux, so OS isn't a factor either. Nor is it heat-related, because some games will crash as soon as the GPU starts working harder. This is strangest and most frustrating thing I've had to deal with. It's an otherwise great product. Had no issues with my previous Dell (7559), but I was really excited to upgrade to an all-AMD system, and the 5505 is still the only thing on the market with an RX 5600M.

@@EstebanAcosta801 I know this reply is almost 1 year too late but replacing the thermal paste and replacing all thermal pads with K5 pro should fix the crashing. I would add a generous amount of K5 pro on every VRM near the heatsinks and fans. Be very generous with it. I would purchase 2 tubs of K5 (20$) and a 1g tube of gelid extreme.

I've been doing everything I can to make this laptop work like it is supposed to, I switched from BIOS 1.7 to 1.12 because somebody said on a forum that 1.7 is the culprit. This sounds like a firmware/BIOS issue. Use a program called snappydriver to download all of the firmware and driver updates. Use the dell website to find the BIOS update. Replace your thermal paste too. Use a non-conductive thermal paste if you aren't experienced pasting laptops.

@@madhusudhan4672 Yes it does make a performance difference but please watch my other video about overclocking the GPU. It really isn't an overclock. It is a minor undervolt and minor underclock. This gives the laptop a lot of performance. Your PC should not be suffering those issues if it has proper cooling. Try to elevate the laptop (I use a deck of cards) and replace the stock thermal paste with a high end paste, like the Gelid Extreme or Noctua NT-H2.
