I love that you open up the laptop to show us the insides, so I know how easy it will be to repair if I've ever bought one. Some laptop motherboards are flipped, and that makes it extremely hard to disassemble just to take off the heatsink, replace the thermal paste, etc.

Crashes definately have something to do with heating. It has never crashed, since I started using a cooling pad 24*7. It heats because of the powerful CPU+GPU (rx 5600m) crammed into a budget built laptop. Gaming performance is tiny bit better than the more expensive 1660ti though.

Great video review, nice and quick. Had the same issue with the screen frozen or screen goes black, and the laptop rebooted itself for no reason, regardless of what game you play. Latest BIOS 1.3.0 doesn't seem to help either.

I run Low-Mid settings on this laptop even though it can handle them fine on the highest settings but I just want to play the game smooth, high frames, and it makes me feel better not having the laptop overwork itself. Haven’t had issues with it with the exception of the trackpad is just horrible. Given nobody really uses a gaming laptop without a mouse obv but if you wanted to just use it for school work time to time, that trackpad is so laggy, doesn’t track your finger well, and just useless to me. I turned it off since I just use a mouse even when going out but it’s a pretty good cheap gaming laptop with good specs. I use a laptop cooler to help it I mean if computer towers need fans then I don’t see why I can’t get some for my laptop

@@theofficial3046 I got mine when it was $300 off ($800 total + $150 for virus protection) but I think it’s a good budget laptop. It also depends what you’re trying to play. Here are some games I’ve played and haven’t given me any issues around Low-Mid graphics for each. Borderlands all series (2 have ram it on the highest settings at it runs well), Resident Evil up to 7 (Haven’t played 8), Valorant, League of Legends, Apex Legends (haven’t had issues but will run the laptop hot), Warframe, Monster Hunter World, Subnautica (Below Zero as well), Risk of Rain 2, almost all metroidvanias have ran well like Ori and the Blind Forest, All the Bioshock games, Spellbreak, Fortnite, Rocket League, TemTem, Deus Ex all games, Overwatch (runs way better than I thought), Tomb Raider series. I know I have played more but I have been sticking with Valorant and League right now. I’ve streamed and played a game and I actually didn’t have any FPS drops with a few games though with Apex or MH World I haven’t streamed but I think they would drop some FPS just because they’re heavier but I don’t know for sure). It’s pretty good. For screen because this was really important to me, it’s really good quality. Like it caps at 144 HZs (144 FPS) so nearly most games run extremely smooth. And the screen is really easy on the eyes. Like it’s not cheap LED screen, it’s hard to explain but you’re eyes won’t get tired as easy or irritated if you play in the dark

Good review. Did you test undervolting with afterburner? Seems like disabling cpu boost and undervolting gpu is the only ways to make this laptop good. Wish Acer, Lenovo or HP designet the cooling instead.
@shuflie4 жыл бұрын
Actually there may be another way, i testing out blender and checking the speed differences between CPU, GPU and both together for rendering I noticed that the CPU actually ran much, much cooler when it was working alongside the GPU. Smart shift was giving preference to the GPU and cutting back on CPU performance which kept the CPU temps under 90C, was around 85-87 I think. Maybe the way forward is trying to load the GPU up more to get it working close to 100% most of the time.There is a virtual super resolution that allows you to select a resolution higher than native that then scales back down to native to improve image quality that may help do this.

Is it normal for this laptop to drop fps when it is on battery? mine does it eventhough I set everything to high performance.
@Riizq533 жыл бұрын
Yes on battery the laptop will not run in its full capacity. To get more out of your laptop while gaming you need to be plugged in. The gpu uses 60-90 and the cpu around 30-45 watts. The battery isn’t capable of powering both at once. Hence the fps drops

@shuflie4 жыл бұрын
I take it back, just saw the review and comparison between the 4800H and 4600H version that JarrodTech posted and it looks as if the cheaper model gets hotter, also gives more fps in games for some reason. I still think you've got a defective laptop though, he didn't mention anything about instability in gaming and he does go through a lot of games in his reviews.

Thermal issues but doesn't show temps? It's not the thermals that are causing it to crash. I bet you can open HWinfo and notice that there isn't any throttling happening. The one game shows 82c for temp, that's not hot. The problem is the Smartshift technology isn't optimized yet, so the entire system is heating itself up more than a system without Smartshift.
