Thanks for the great video, I am getting my new 5410 shortly, looking forward to the updated ram and SSD
@subwarpspeed4 жыл бұрын
Haven't checked the whole video yet. There are more differences than the processor, one I've noticed is that the 5411 comes with a HDMI 2.0 port but the 5410 have a HDMI 1.4b port. Difference will be that normally the 1.4 can't provide 4k (3840x2160) in 60 hz but 2.0 can (if display supports it). You can work around that with an adapter (or docking station) which uses DisplayPort 1.2 (that do 4k@60hz) over USB-C. But it was a bit annoying when looking for machines to deploy, a regular user won't think of connecting a USB-C (form factor) to HDMI adapter when the computer has a HDMI connector already and they will be stuck with 30 hz. Next series up model to the 5410, the 7410, have HDMI 2.0.

I have a couple very elementary questions. Please excuse but this is the first day I am working with my new Dell Latitude 14", Intel Core i7, 16 GB Ran, 512 CG SSD. Whatever that previous statement means. 1) the desktop icons refuse to downsize and they are too large, 2) the text appears blurry, 3) When I used more than one program such as MS Word document, Internet German to English translator, I cannot get them to appear as they once did on my former Dell Latitude 5480. By the by, this Dell arrived appearing used. The outer box was perfectly intact but the inner Dell box was ripped open and re-taped sloppily, there was no documentation save the Warranty which did not include my computer's SN or anything indicating that the warranty applied to my computer. The protective cover for the screen and the pad to protect the keypad were missing. I was informed yesterday by our computer guru that Dell recognized my computer and that someone had set it up. He removed that setup but I am still not confident that Dell knows this. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you.

appreciate that Dell still keeps the 2 RAM slots on the 5000 series, these are now gone for the new Dell 7000 and 9000 series lineups. The fan is however still so tiny, I bet if you run Cinebench R15 ten times or so in a loop it won't be able to hold a high clock speed for long and will throttle down quickly.

Yes it's sad we seeing more business laptops go onboard RAM these days. It's one part that gets upgraded or also fault a bit and to make it easy to swap or install is important for business situation. When I get the next 5411 with an i7 I plan to do a direct comparison of heat with the 5401 and I will run this in much longer times as Dell has said that thermals have improved in the 5411/5410.
@nazarottto4 жыл бұрын
@@BsianTech From your disassembly I saw that the new 5411 has a dual heatpipe while on your 5401 review I only saw one heatpipe, so I guess Dell is righ that thermals have improved. Cooling a 45W H-CPU (TDP down to 35W in those laptops) requires beefier cooling solutions than those used for 15W CPUs anyway. Intel mobile CPUs are bursty and are more suited for short but intensive computations, but nevertheless there will be some performace loss if the laptop is not properly cooled. Looking forward to your comparison (:

With all laptop I would suggest minium 16GB RAM but ideally 32GB or more for AutoCAD depending on your projects. Easy way is fire up your current projects and go to Task Manager and then performance tab and look at how much memory it is using this will give you good idea how much you need at the very least.

Great review, thanks! I still cannot decide between 5410 with 4-core i7 10610U 15W (or maybe with 6-core i7 10710U 15W) and between 5411 with 6-core i7 10850H 45W CPU. I'm still sort of worried about the fan noise, thermal issues and short battery life at the latter one. I want to use the laptop for scripting, programming and testing, including taking it on travels with me (better battery life needed). I really like the specs of i7 10610U (TDP 15W configurable up to 25W, base frequency 1.8GHz, turboboost frequency 4.9GHz) so I'm kind of inclined to go for 5410. Am I making the right choice here? Thanks in advance!
@narianu04 жыл бұрын
I just bought a 5411 with the i7-10850H. I had the exact same concerns as you, but I think I'm going to be happy with the 10850H. I did a few stress tests and found that fan noise is the same or quieter as compared to my Latitude 7480. Throttling wasn't an issue either. Doing a Prime95 on hottest settings, the CPU throttles down to 2.3-2.6ghz (85-95%) after 10-15min and hovers around that level. Running a both graphics benchmark (Furmark) and cpu benchmark (Prime 95) at the same time is a different story. In this scenario the cooling system is definitely overstressed, and both CPU/GPU throttle to about 80% of max. However, my Latitude 7480 does the same thing and it'll be rare that you're running both systems at max capacity, so I'm willing to live with this compromise. Overall I think Dell did a good job with their cooling system.

@@narianu0 Thanks a lot, appreciated! Could you pls also tell me more about the battery life (I guess you have the 4-cell one with 68 KWh)? How long does it perform on average and under stress? And what about the AC power adapter? It should be 90W, right? Could you please weigh it? The thing is that laptop configuration with Intel Comet Lake i7-10610U (4-core) comes with just 65W power adapter, that's where I could save some weight. Thanks a lot in advance! Generally, still my biggest concern here is possible overheating and battery life of Intel Comet Lake i7-10850H (6-core) laptop configuration...
@narianu04 жыл бұрын
@@3xitt I got the i7 model with the dedicated nVidia GPU and the 4-cell battery. Battery life seems to be about 6-7hrs, though I haven't drained it in a full test. The video review mentioned battery life under full stress, so take a look there. For power adapter, you actually need a 130w if you have the i7 w/dedicated GPU. I tested using a 90w and although there's a warning every time I boot that power levels might be affected and the computer might have to throttle, it functions fine. When I tested Cinebench with 90w, 130w, and on battery, they all performed at about the same level, so I'm unsure what the ramifications are of using the underpowered adapter. Maybe the battery charges slower? I don't think overheating will be that much of a concern, honestly. The fan and dual-heat pipes seem to do a decent job. However, the extra weight, lower battery life and mediocre screen/color quality (I got the 220 nit screen) made me think about returning the machine. I ended up deciding to try a Lenovo Thinkpad T14 with the new AMD Ryzen Pro 5 CPU. Apparently this achieves the same performance as the i7-10850H processor with much less heat/battery usage.
@3xitt4 жыл бұрын
@@narianu0 Man, you totally inspired me - I've checked a couple of reviews (sadly, there's not too many comprehensive tests out there yet) of T14 Gen 1 w/ AMD Ryzen PRO and eventually decided to go for it too. That 7nm AMD APU and IGP Radeon RX Vega (allegedly more powerful than Intel Iris Pro) look really awesome and like a clear winner when compared to Intel Comet/Ice Lake 14nm stuff. Besides, Lenovo offers more colorful, 400 nits bright display w/ much better brightness distribution and I literally love Thinkpad keyboards (already owned 2 Thinkpad laptops in the past) and also touchpad looks much better (bigger). Sadly no NBD on-site, has to be purchased additionally but I can deal w/ it. My question is - why are you going for 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U rather than 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U? Is it because of higher base frequency on a single core to have more balanced performance for both SW supporting multi-/hyperthreading and SW not supporting it (or being coded ineffectively) and thus requiring higher clock on a single core for better performance?
@narianu04 жыл бұрын
@@3xitt Yeah the T14 looks pretty good. I am not excited about the no-button touchpad, but hopefully I'll learn how to get used to it. I also got the 400-nit screen with full color gamut as well. Regarding cores, I did think about single-core performance since I do lot of Power BI workloads which benefit from better single-core performance. Also, compared to my current processor (i7-7600u), I'm already going from 3633 --> 15814 on CPUBenchmark.net. It should provide plenty of additional improvement for me as-is so I decided to save the extra $$ :)

This notebook (and pretty much all of newer Dells) is a total crap! It has one fatal flaw which kills it totally for normal work: the layout of keyboard, specifically Home ad End keys. If you want to type fast or want to quickly navigate in text (e.g. you are a programmer) then the position is unusable. Older Dell keyboard mapped Fn+Left to Home and Fn+Right to End. This was superfast to use and I loved that. When navigating in text you can simply have your right hand on the arrow keys area and you do not need to change the right hand position most of the time. But now Home and End are in the upper row (the same keys as F11 and F12) and if you change settings in BIOS to prioritize function keys F1-F12, which is what most sane people do, then you not only have Home and End far away from arrow keys, but you also need to map them with Fn key only. This is total crap. There are thousands of people complaining about this change on the internet but Dell does not care. The solution would be unbelivably simple: just allow mapping Fn+Left to Home and Fn+Right to End. There is no conflict in function so all they should do is just to allow what already worked before. The change in BIOS settings would be easy. But DELL just does not care! They probably laugh at people struggling bad with the new keyboard... Unfortunately I bough a new Dell and when I discovered this fatal flaw it was already too late to return it. SO now I have a notebook which is only usable with external keyboard. Useless crap! My conclusion: I LOVED DELL FOR A LONG TIME. THE OLD DELL NOTEBOOKS WERE PERFECT. BUT NOW I FU*KING HATE DELL!!! THE MOST UNUSABLE NOTEBOOK EVER!!! If all you can do is playing games all day, then you probably do not care about this. But if you want to do some useful work: DO NOT EVER BUY DELL UNTIL THEY CHANGE THE KEYBOARD LAYOUT.
