Damn. Reseated both cpus. Swapped them. took all the memory out and cleaned the fingers with a white eraser. blew out the sockets with compressed air, even cleaned the pads on the CPUS. CPU1 MEMVTT PG Voltage outside of range. I am going to try the C-states fix many are saying works. EDIT: The C-states fix worked. Memory and cpu set to "Maximum performance" memory timings set to "auto" C1 Enabled. C-states DISABLED. The processor still can ramp down to idle speeds but when it's running hard it stays at a steady voltage now. 72hrs no faults yet.

That's awesome! Exactly what is "the C-states" fix? I know you can set to different configs, like Max power 100% of the time or "Idle when not in use," can you please give exact link and info on "the fix?" I'm having similar. Doing thermal paste today, but also interested in that fix. I'm not caring about idling down, but if it's also helpful as far as overall use, I'm all for whatever this fix is. Thanks in advance!

@@willspy4u Essentially it's a sign either your memory is dying or (in this case more likely) your motherboards memory controller. New (old stock) memory did not fix the issue for me while disabling c-states did. Essentially the memory 'doesn't like' shifting across the voltages to run at different speeds anymore and can fault when doing so. idk why. way beyond my pay grade. There is no exact link to the fix though. I just read the comments here, the voltage and timing issue made sense so I disabled c-states but allowed C-1 which is low-power / idle mode as it's the most important one to have.

Those Bios versions are ancient. Upgrade the firmwares for Spectre and Meltdown CPU microcode fixes.

For sure! His BIOS versions are older than the ones I had. I went from 1.6 to 2.9, the latest for Dell R720. Was not able to get any (except my hot spare) hard drive Urgent CS09 firmware updates. I tried the Linux boot ISO of Dell SUU. Wasn't able to boot 'from' it, but was able to do normal Linux boot to my OS, and then choose those 10 Dell-branded WD drives to update, and it says, "Some updates require reboot" but then, on reboot, HDD firmware doesn't update. Maybe due to them being RAIDed and not fully available, unless I can boot from SUU ISO. I may try the Windows version of the SUU ISO.
