DELL U2722DE 27" Review for Mac Users. USB Ports galore.

Found your channel by accident after looking for ways to repurpose my 2013 iMac. Your review of the luna studio system was excellent and this review is also excellent. I have the U2723QE monitor which superseded the U2722DE but your review should be required viewing for all owners of the newer monitor. It has the best description of all the ports and it is so much better to see them on video compared to squinting at the tiny diagrams in the user manual. Believe it or not your video is the only I have seen that shows adjustment of the monitor height. I worked it out myself, but again the manual is not very clear on this. The range of adjustments possible with the Dell monitors does put Apple to shame- paying for height adjustment is a step too far! Anyway, thanks again and keep up the great work.

Phil, loved your videos. I have an iMac 27" late 2014. I love the screen sharpness. It your Dell U2722DE as sharp and clear as your iMac "monitor" Is there any loss in clarity by using the Luna Display option?

The Dell gives very similar results. It has a matt surface rather than glossy, which some people find an advantage, I don't mind either way. The resolution is exactly the same as a 27 inch iMac. I have since upgraded to a 5K iMac which is amazing! And still use that alongside the Dell monitor.

Just an FYI, MacOS does not support DisplayPort MST, which is required for the daisy-chain setup. Windows has no issues with DP-MST. if the Monitor had Thunderbolt chaining MacOS would support it.

My MacBook Pro M1 2020 that I had connected to my new Dell U2722DE via USB-C 90W port (power and video) worked for a few days. Randomly it has now stopped working via that port and goes into standby after not finding the source ("No USB signal from device"). I found that solution could be updating MacOS firmware for this monitor found from Dell site. I wonder if there is only firmware for Windows system installed when out of factory? I try to install the Mac firmware to it via both HDMI and DP cable but it demands USB cable, any ideas how to solve the install problem because can not use USB-C 90w port?

yes I can suggest a fix. Unplug your monitor and hold in the input selector button for a few seconds on the right rear of the screen. Release the button and reconnect the power cable. This should clear the block age to the USB-C port.

can you daisy chain two of those monitors via usb c without using DisplayLink?

Only having one I haven't tried. I believe that the only way to daisy chain is using the Display Port ports. You'd also need a display port cable which isn't in the box.

..not at all! The resolution I'm running is its native 2560x1440. This is a perfect resolution for modern Mac's (alongside 5K). There are many reasons that you might have this. Check the onscreen adjustment options perhaps.

@@anatoliynazarenko7963 I find the monitor ideal for colour correction of photos in Lightroom & video editing. I actually set-up a Custom Color Preset and calibrated the screen using a professional monitor calibrator.

How do you get the speakers to work on this?

Connect the speakers to the Dell monitor's Audio Out port; then select the Dell Monitor in your sound output panel.

@@horacinis I think the question was about how to connect speakers to the monitor. It's true that the USB-C/Thunderbolt carries an audio signal to the monitor.
