I was actually going to comment this. Especially since the new macbook pros include a 120 hz monitor. I cannot give that feature up! I currently have a 27 inch 1440p monitor, so I'll be waiting a while to upgrade until I find a monitor that fits my needs perfectly!

Unfortunately high refresh rate means sacrificing the color accuracy of the display. Because the combination of the 2 is usually at the cutting edge and most companies can't generate enough demand or price a product that high to justify allocating that much budget on this project of combining the latest in color with the latest in frequency. Reason why for example apple could do it with say the iPad Pro (liquid retina xdr + 120Hz promotion) because they can generate enough demand for the product to justify the ridiculous budget (most of these display companies entire networth) they put on research and developing this product.

I think we are getting there, the issue is the cost. It is possible but it will be significantly more expensive. There is an LG gaming monitor that is 4K with 144hz with slim bezels at 4 sides, but it's only 27 inches. I think there is BenQ gaming monitor that is 32 inches, but not it has more gamery looks. But color accuracy of the box may not be as good unless you have a calibrator. But there is a growing high end laptops having high refresh. So I guess that will come to desktop monitor and become cheaper.

Thanks for the review! I recently picked up the 43" UltraSharp and I love it! What I love even more is that I got it a week before Dell jacked the price by $500. I was thinking about the Studio Display, but 27" and the lukewarm reviews for $2000+ (CAD) simply doesn't make sense to me. At $1000 less, the U4320Q is just perfect.

I got a U3219Q for 300 bucks refurbed last week, adding to a 14" MBP M1 Pro (16GB/1TB) 7th of January 2025. Gamechanger! Upgrading from a 2015 MBP... A nice setup for less money than for an actual entry level MacBook Pro. Thank your very much for your comprehensive review videos, this really helped me a lot to avoid the Apple pricing traps. From a conversation with a liquid crystal head in Merck KGaA, the company which invented the liquid crystal concept and which is selling the pigments to Apple, Benq, Samsung (and hence to DELL), I learned that this type of Display in the U3219Q has very little chances to wear out. They age very, very well (if you avoid direct ultraviolet light to the polarizing layer). So I am glad to be set for like 10+ years going.

Just a quick note. I have a Dell 3221Qs and its panel blew out on me. It became washed out a month after I purchased it. I called Dell for a replacement which they agreed to due to their panel replacement policy. But the issue is it has been hard for them to find a replacement monitor for me. It took a couple of months to locate one. When they did it got shipped to their offices and lost and they then had to source a second one for me with another three-week delay. So service and support is a much higher-level issue in my requirements for purchasing Dell. It's to the point now that if I have an issue with a Dell item, I automatically extend the warranty for another cycle at whatever the cost is. That has added another 200 onto my monitor in this case and another $350 to a recent laptop purchase that required a motherboard replacement. There seems to be a quality control issue with Dell now and you should account for that in purchases for the next several years.

After using a 5k iMac for the last couple years, I'm wondering if 4k is too few pixels for a screen this size as far as obvious pixelation of text. I have a 27" 4k monitor, and even there the difference between 5k 27" is noticeable

If you can save up get the XDR standard, VESA with the educational discount, HX ergotron arm (~$5.2k). Trust me you notice the difference between the clarity of the text from 5k to 4k. I had a 24in Dell 4k, 27in Dell 4k, 32in Dell 4k. Then bought the LG 27in 5k and immediately noticed what window users had been missing all along compared to mac users. Like when you put them side to side, you can see the Dell colors and text inferior immediately. The only thing I liked about the 32in Dell was that it had a lot of screen space. So, my next upgrade would be the XDR as it has the best of both worlds; clarity of text and lots of estate. In addition, XDR has deep blacks which are not found in LG 5k. but it cost too much atm $$$ Wished Apple took out an affordable 32inch 6k display like between $2000-$3000 with fewer photography features that most probably do not need.

@@saadbangash2422 Thank you, that helps. I'm currently debating whether to get Apple's Studio Monitor (5k for $1600) or the U3223QE (Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Hub Monitor) for $900. Despite some of the Studio Display's shortcomings, its build quality, 5k image sharpness, auto-adjusted color and brightness, integration with the Mac, speakers, microphone, integrated camera (bad as it is), etc. are very tempting. If it weren't $700 more expensive, the decision would be easier. I do a lot of photo editing, and ultimately think I'll appreciate the better image quality (sharpness, brightness, etc.) of the Studio Display more than I'll enjoy the extra space on the 32" screen. Oof, the price though.

Same here. I'm torn between the U3223QE (Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Hub Monitor) and Apple's Studio Display to pair with a Mac Studio. The added real estate of 32" would be nice (currently have a 24" monitor). And saving $700 is nothing to sneeze at. Then again, the Studio Display's build quality, image sharpness at 5k, auto-adjusted color and brightness, integration with the Mac, speakers, microphone, integrated camera (bad as it is), etc. is also *very* tempting. I'm sure I'll be happy with either. But I still go back and forth.

To be honest this is a good monitor for MacBook I have been using it for around 2 year plus. Since the first gen of MacBook 16 inch. But do be aware that this monitor have backlight bleed. The degree of these issue varies from monitor to monitor. Reaching almost 3 years. The built in USB port spoil. Exchange for a refurbished dell set. And now got a more serious degree of backlight bleed. But overall this monitor is a very solid piece of hardware for the MacBook as it support 96w usb c charging.

I have had 2 of these for a few years and I also have the HP ZR30W screen. For coding I find the HP ZR30W better because it has an 16:10 aspect ratio, even at 2560x1600 it has about 4 more inches of vertical screen space than this 32 inch screen when this screen is running 150% scale in Windows 10/11. Next time I buy a productivity screen I will get a DELL U3011 or U3017 but they are older so only available used or refurbished. I still have 2x HP ZR30W but I do regret not getting the Dell version because the HP runs super hot because it is CCFL which produces nice even back lighting but it is hot and does not have HDMI but the dell has both DP and HDMI.

Looking on how you work on two windows side by side, you have lots of wasted space at the top and at the bottom. While using Discord or another communicator and having it stretched from the top to bottom to enjoy full vertical space, means looking at the bottom of the monitor all the time (where one inputs the text). Isn't it better to have a narrower screen, but with more space on the sides? Isn't looking left and right less fatiguing than looking downward all the time? What are your feelings after using this monitor for some longer time?

Only minor difference is the BenQ has Thunderbolt which allows for daisy-chaining another monitor and a hotkey puck that allows you to change settings quicker. The USB-C port on the monitor side is extremely flimsy, so it will eventually fail after several months, losing the functionality to display an image on the screen. Dialling back a bit here if you don't mind cos I'm seriously considering the U2720Q which is more than twice that of the S2721QS. I personally haven't used the S2721QS, although I used a U2414H (entry-level U series monitor) for years at my previous job with no issues. My advice for buying monitors for everyone is ALWAYS try to maximize your budget on them. Unlike computers, monitors don't change too much year to year, and you look at it for 8+ hours every day. I've had no issues with image retention, and I highly recommend USB-C functionality for any monitor you buy (even if not Dell) if you use a laptop.

Update: Receive my replacement Q3221Qs and it was damaged as well. The HDMI port is damaged. The cable won't stay in and gets no signal when connecting. Since the initial complaint was more than 30 days since I purchased a refund is not possible. I am now waiting for a replacement monitor. Unfortunately, that is a problem. They don't have any available in Canada now. My last one had to be brought up from Texas. They are now looking in Internationally to find one for me. I suspect this monitor was not a nig seller given the issues I have seen and the difficulty in getting a replacement now on three occasions. The first one has been sent to Dell Offices here in Toronto instead of to their refurbished and then promptly lost on the loading dock. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in Dell's refurbishing process. I suspect their repair QA is no better. They seem to (At least here in Canada) ship it to a third party called iVY computers to be repaired and refurbished. The is a significant lack of QA in evaluating and repairing returned units. Hopefully, this will help someone decide about Dell products.

Nice monitor, I went with the Huawei Mate View 28” monitor, it has a better aspect ratio for having lots of windows open and looks nice, and is a bit smaller so fits in my space well. Also has built in speakers too and USB C support. Working from home it’s nice to have a big screen.

But don't know if there is a better color profile I should be using.

I just bought a U2520D because of the USB-C and QHD, that i tought it would look better than a FHD with my macbook pro. Sadly, 2K's does not Scale and things just look so small. I'm not a big fan of huge screens, so I think I'll just go back to 23 FHD. Since I migrated to macOS graphics became a huge issue. Retinas display makes you very picky about pixels.

I have a Mac Mini M1 and a similar screen, Dell S3221QS to be exact, and I have a problem with blinking when showing dark pictures - for example in movies, while using lightroom, photoshop and so on. Dell's support terminated my repair request saying that this screen just has that problem with Mac computers. Do you notice any blinking on your screen when hooked up to M1 Mac?
@nicka1802

I had that too with my Dell monitor connected to my M1 Pro. Same exact model as yours. I got it a few weeks ago on sale. Every time I scrolled on a web page in dark mode the whole screen would flash. It was fine when I set the MacBook to light mode. Sometimes the whole screen would flicker and flash for no reason. Open Settings on your Mac, go to Displays, click the Display Settings... button. Change your color profile. I changed mine to sRGB IEC61966-2.1. You may also have to mess with color modes on the monitor itself. This only happens on certain monitors not just Dell, so I think it's an Apple issue. I was ready to send my display back to Dell, but changing the color profile worked for me. It's a great monitor, especially on sale.

I don't understand your claim that size equals screen real estate. Does a 20" full HD monitor have less screen real estate than a 27" full HD monitor? I thought resolution equals screen real estate. 1920x1080 is the same regardless of size. Wouldn't the same apply to 3840x2160?
@markday3145
@markday3145 2 жыл бұрын
Same question here. If the resolution is the same, then bigger screen size means bigger pixels, not more of them. Bigger screen, and bigger pixels, means you can put the monitor further away and have it take up the same angle of view. In other comments, he mentions sitting 2-3 feet away. At that distance, a 32" monitor makes sense to me. For the last 7 years, I've been sitting 16-18" away from a 27" 5K display; 32" at that distance would require a lot more head movement.

@@jcwebtechSmall remark here: there are several important things that most of the people doing reviews do not tell you (from whatsoever reason). Your question and the question of the guy asking for 43 inch model are the correct ones, and you are on the good path, just you need some more information. Important things to be considered are distance from the monitor you are sitting at, your eyesight, PPI of the display and its diagonal, scaling you will (not) use, computer performance and actual amount of the information displayed (regardless of the resolution). As an example, MacOS is struggling with scaling, while Windows does it better. I personally have MBP 16inch intel I7 laptop, with dedicated graphics, and for me the way to go was Dell 43 inch monitor (P4320Q) that I run in the native 4K resolution, without scaling. I can see the text clearly, size of letters is readable, no scaling thus no additional computing power used for calculating. Scaling using the ratio other than integer (e.g. 2 or 4) results in poor quality text on the Mac and also impacts the performance. There are several good articles to be found on the internet on the subject, and strongly I recommend you to search, before you go and buy 4K monitor. If you intend to scale, go to 21 inch for 4K monitor, or 24 inch for 5K monitor. Then the text will look sharp and crystal clear (mind you, if you are able to find such monitor, and if you are able to pay for it), since it will be scaled using the integer ratio, as stated above, and at the same time, size of letters will not look ridiculous large or small. 27 or 32 inch with 4K is no go, since the text look really odd, nothing better than 2560x1440 monitor. Be reminded, when you scale, the actual amount of information shown on the display corresponds to scaled resolution, not to the native 4K. Then the question comes: why would you pay 27 or 32 inch monitor 4K and then scale to 2560x1440, instead of opting for 27 inch monitor with native resolution of 2560x1440? Amount of data processed by the computer is larger, and you feel it on the Intel MacBook. Did not try M1 yet how it copes scaling, according to the answer provided by the Created TECH works fine, but still the previous question remains - why you would pay 4K 27 or 32 inch monitor to run in scaled in 2560x1440 when the sharpens of the text is not ideal (not scaled with factor 2 or 4). If you scale it with factor 2, the amount of information shown on the display is lower than in 2560x1440... Think about Apple recommended monitors from LG and their resolutions, or resolutions on the iMac retina 4K or 5K, new iMac with M1, or Pro Display XDR and its resolution. Think about any Retina display native resolution on the MacBook Pro and actual scaled resolutions... I dare to say, for 99% of the people, 4K on 27 or 32 inch without scaling the text is so tiny that is useless, from normal working distance, and scaling is must. Would be nice that Created TECH tells us what is the actual resolution that he is scaling to. Then you can evaluate the amount of the information displayed compared to the size of the screen, requirements for the computer in terms of processing (ok, if you have M1 or M1 pro it may work seamlessly), but also bang for the buck (or shall I say pixel) when buying 32 inch 4K monitor for about 1000 USD, compared to 27 inch 2560x1440, or 43 inch 4K, or something else. Of course, at the end, everything on the subject comes to the personal preference. Cheers!

@@zoranlukic6589 Mate, thanks for this complex response! I have actually already investigated a lot and read couple of articles and online discussions so I already have the theoretical knowledge and to be honest I am more confused before. I am avare of the scaling challanges, but there are also people saying 4K scaled to look like 1440p still looks better than actual 1440p. Also the Screen on Macbook is not always scaled with integer ratio. I already have 1440p 24" monitor and I'm looking for upgrade. I run it in native resolution and I am completely happy with the scaling size. I would like to have more realestate to be able to view 2 complex programs Side by Side. I would also Like to have higher DPI as I can see the image being much sharper on my M1 MBA''s display. 5k is out of my budget and more thn 40 inches it too big. So I either risk scaling issues with 4k or give up the dpi and go with ultrawide
