They should make more laptops that allow you to upgrade the internals easily. I'd be *MUCH* more prone to buying one then.
@WindowsCentral7 жыл бұрын
That's not free though. Tradeoffs including just being a bigger, bulkier laptop. You can swap out Wifi, SSD, and RAM in Dell's with ease. CPUs are not really a thing and let's be honest, would be very, very niche for your average consumer.
@MarkSpurrell7 жыл бұрын

Thanks 4 a great review...I ended up buying this over the HP Specter 13 and have absolutely no regrets...I splurged and got it fully loaded with the QHD, 512gb SSD with 16 megs of ram...I have had absolutely no issues with the Killer wifi and the screen is just so awesome to look at...even with the QHD, I am getting over 12 hours with doing work, surfing and listening to music...It's lightning quick and gotta love the boot up time....A+ all the way for me and I have no regrets buying the older version..this 8th gen i7 is amazing in terms of battery life and it's so much faster when I merge large amounts of data at work...

Killer network adapter for XPS is shit. My XPS crashes very often because of it's drivers. Also there is absolutely no difference in signal strength if you are using Killer or any other network adapter.
@WindowsCentral7 жыл бұрын
Kind of disagree. We tested Killer and noticed stronger signal at our office, where other laptops would drop. The prioritization feature is also nice for those who need it. But hey, for $35 you can easily swap it out for an Intel one. Takes about 15 mins max.
@dalmatiafx7 жыл бұрын
Maybe that's just my case. Or maybe they have improved it from last year's version (because I really tested it with other cheap laptops and the signal drops at the same point). Anyway appreciate your reply! Keep up the good work. And by the way, very important question: did you hear any coil whine?
@WindowsCentral7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Re: coil whine, if you put your ear up to the keyboard, yes, you can hear some. However, compared to new Surface Book 2 13, it's super quiet. The issue here is some people are *super* sensitive to it, while others (including ourselves) are less so, so hard to rate. But it seems minimal.
@andyH_England7 жыл бұрын
Windows Central just Google it, Killer Wifi in the Dell had major issues. They updated drivers in May but still not great. Of course some users won’t have issues but it was a well known issue for too many users so I agree buy an Intel wifi that generally are more reliable and will have better driver updates.
@crzycrkr207 жыл бұрын
I just bought two of these for myself and my wife. First day I had problems with the killer WiFi knocking out my Archer C7. Upgraded the firmware on the killer WiFi and on the router and no problems since. We both love the laptops and are extremely happy with them for the price. Costco had the 8th gen is, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD, and QHD screen for $1300

@robertbouknight27307 жыл бұрын
Philip Carneiro 1080p and infrequent 4k editing would be just fine. But if you plan on doing primarily 4k video editing, you might want to consider a more powerful machine.

+random youtuber thanks for the answer! and what type of laptop you would buy? do you know a good one?
@robertbouknight27307 жыл бұрын
Philip Carneiro for video editing the XPS 13 is a great choice. It depends on your budget. There are many similar priced Ultrabooks that could handle video editing. Look into the HP Spectre x360, Lenovo 720/920 for other options. And if you like the Apple ecosystem, I'd recommend the Pro. Each have their own pros and cons, but I'd choose the one that has what is most important for your use.
@philip.carneiro7 жыл бұрын
most important for me is video editing. Im just starting with editing and at the moment i need just 1080p but i want to buy a pc that also can handle 4k really well because when i upgrade on my camera i dont want to have to upgrade on my laptop again. And importing while im editing is for me that i can edit fluidly. Export times are not that important for me

It's both a valid point, but also not. HP is constantly tweaking its Spectre line, which makes Dell look bad here. OTOH, as noted above, this design is still pretty awesome. I ordered mine without knowing about the coil whine issues and then when I started hearing about them in some review videos, I got nervous. The laptop arrived yesterday, so I've only played around with it for a day, but so far I can report that it's very fast, the wifi has worked just fine (hasn't disconnected or slowed down at all) and you can only hear any coil whine if you press your ear down to the keyboard. In any normal position, you can't hear anything at all even in a very quiet room or while watching videos/downloading large files. Maybe it starts becoming bad after a few weeks, idk, but for now, nothing has been an issue so far. It seems to be a great laptop

My major gripe with the XOS is the keyboard, probably the most important feature for me. The keys give no feedback and are mushy, awful for my heavy load.
