It's a marketing tactic. They want to lower the price on the cheapest base model so that it looks like the product is a great value. Then when the audience gets reeled in, they offer the more expensive model with the bigger battery and shinier screen, and make it seem like the obvious choice to spend a bit of extra money on. This is something every company does in every industry not just tech.

Food for thought, @The Tech Chap: As a tech user this trend of "creator" laptops which lose the numeric pad is incredibly annoying. Sure, it's no loss for people who use Adobe Premiere all day long, but I don't. I'm an engineer and inevitably this means data entry and calculations, and that's what a numeric pad is for. I'd look forward to a "performance laptops with full-size keyboards" showdown. Much typing of strings of numbers using only the top-row of the keyboard is tedious enough to be worth swerving a laptop to avoid. I think it is worth bearing in mind that while many people probably never use a numeric pad, there are also technical users such as myself for whom a numeric pad is a must. Open up a desktop calculator application and start doing maths and see how you get along.

An AMD processor option would be a welcome addition across the XPS lineup, intel is great for certain needs, but price and battery life still leave much to be desired especially with Apple’s M1 MacBooks and Macs disrupting the market (in a good way) with its innovation. I want an XPS form factor and I need a Windows OS, but the “bang for the buck” value of an Apple MBA feels almost too good to pass up that it may finally be worth switching to a new OS and ecosystem despite the lack of touchscreen or alternative screen options like OLED. AMD offerings would be a nice middle ground, having better battery life and more competitive price points while still being pretty decent performance wise.
@liquidmojo2 жыл бұрын
@@tomgreen9207 Yeah Intel has taken cues from the M1 and built both Performance and Efficiency cores into the 12th Gen Alder Lake CPU chipset. The XPS 13+ has killer performance vs other laptops in its size class because of its innovative case design and cooling solution. I just want to see a lower priced and perhaps more battery efficient AMD build using the XPS “ultra light and thin” design language. But that’s probably not going to happen since Dell has been locking the top end builds to Intel.

I have seen this on Dell's website. I do love this one, and the hardware choices are really great (compared to most which usually gives you maybe 12-16 GB of Ram). Looking at it, a large Touch Pad, speakers on the sides, and 4 USB C/Thunderbolt 4 ports, so much like the MacBook Pro. I do wish you could choose the Artic White Color. Dell has a Dexktop Tower XPS, that gives you more choices, like a Blu-Ray reader/ writer. That Dell Laptop definitely is a big upgrade from my HP, where the GPU, Ram, Video Ram and SSD storage wise, except, I do have an HDMI, and a cd/rom drive, 3 USB-A's and a USB-C. I do have USB A devices. I am still planning to upgrade to the larger Silicon I-Mac. I love the Mac OS. As laptops, I would still go with the 16 inch MacBook Pro over any PC laptop. I already have a PC laptop, and it does have an 8th Gen processor and the TMP 2.0. It should be able to run Windows 11 when that becomes available to the Public. I plan to have a Mac and I will keep the HP for Windows. That way, I will have both OS's, and I have the I-Pad Pro 12.9 XDR, with the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. There was an intel video driver update released December 3rd, but Dell has not yet released a custom version of the driver yet. So until they do you will continue to see the WDM Windows display manager using 778Mb of RAM instead of 90Mb of RAM. It should be released through support assistance unless your computer is no longer under warranty then you will have to run Dell update from the start menu. You could use the Intel driver update but that results in replacing the Dell custom version of the display driver with the intel version which lacks the customizations and may affect features and performance. I have not been able to find out what the customizations are.

I'm gonna just answer this question now... yes. Yes it was. So long story short I got a Dell Inspiron 16 plus first because it had a lot of similar features but at a more reasonable price... but I've been having problems with the track bad and turns out the damn thing wont let me factory reset it- I can't use the option to download windows from the could and local instal just brings me to the advance start up trouble shooting section and even then it doesn't give me the option to reset it. So I ended doing what I should have done in the first place... getting a refurbished Dell XPS 17 (1TB os storage,16gb of ram, UHD+ display) and returning the Inspirion 16 plus. It's a shame because the 16 plus was actually quiet nice in a lot of ways. The screen was also beautiful with realitively similiar bessles and while they keyboard wasn't the best it was still nice to type and the speakers were decent and it had surprisingly good battery life, but it can't compare to the XPS 17. The screen itself was worth the money, but add to just an overall better build quality and speakers and keyboard and the list goes on and on. This was one of the best purchases I've made and I feel confident this is going to last me a long time.

Im surprised they use 3060 for GPU, and wondering how the cooling system can keep up with this, otherwise the heat will dissipate through the Chassis & potentially damage others isnt it

I do believe that for XPS15 FHD with RTX version, it’s an 86WHr battery. At least that’s what Dell tells me. The smaller battery seems to be only for the model with only integrated graphics.

I love your reviews, mate, and your reviews in general, too, but please do not make it seem like color gamut directly equates to more color accuracy. The two are not the same thing, I can easily combine a spectacular color gamut with wildly inaccurate colors (in fact that is rather often the case with uncalibrated gaming screens when watching sRGB-mastered content). This is often miscommunicated on KZbin and I'd like my favorite channels to not make this mistake, please :D Another thing: I hope I did not miss it, but does this still come with the "power feature" of the original model, in where the battery is tapped into under full load, because the PSU does not offer sufficient power?

Great review 👌do you think this exact laptop with 16 gb Ram is good for stuff like blender and working with unity to do game development? (3D)

Blender? Yes I'd be fine exceot in extreme circumstances Unity? You'd might wanna stick 32gb for the headroom

Were your colors accurate out of the box or did you need to calibrate it? I'm having the worst oversaturation on my XPS 17 (9710 4k) and Dell is refusing to help in any way.

The loose trackpad could be the battery expanding underneath. I had the same issue with my 9550 back in 2016.

How many watts does the laptop use excluding the gpu (70w) and cpu (45w)? I’m worried about the 130w power brick not being enough to run both at max power.
@someguy75643 жыл бұрын
It probably won't if I had to guess as it might need an extra 5-10W or so. I have gone for this spec but there is no activity that I will be engaged in where both the GPU and CPU will be maxed out. Gaming doesn't cap out the CPU from my understanding and if I'm going to be taking the CPU to 100% I won't be using the GPU. I will say that the figures you have provided aren't underestimates of their power usage from my understanding. The CPU can use more than that but under sustained loads it will keep to that 45W figure and the 70W figure for the GPU is its max usage, this leaves you with 15W for the screen, fans, SSD, RAM, speakers, inefficiency in the PSU etc and I just can't see that being enough

@@someguy7564 How is this config I was planning on getting it? How long does the battery last and are there any battery drain issues with the i7?
@someguy75643 жыл бұрын
@@thecolossus4244 It's been working well so far. I think I get 8 or so hours out of it with video streaming. I'm expecting that to improve slightly with updates in the near future as processors are always getting more efficient from a work done/power perspective. I'm not aware of any issue with the device not sleeping correctly. When I press the power button it stays asleep as expected but I've not monitored the battery over a day of sleep to see how much it drops One thing I have noticed is the colour calibration is a bit weird. I don't have a better way of describing this but it's almost like the colours are too saturated, additionally whites look a bit more yellow than I would expect. I don't think this is a flaw of the panel but it doesn't look like I'd expect. In terms of gaming it performs ok although I notice the lack of adaptive sync and 144hz refresh rate. In Minecraft I'm able to get mid 40s average frame rate with RT on with a new world. I haven't really played much to give an opinion on it. The fans ramp up but no more than you'd expect with a form factor like this
@robwhitmore30402 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video but you mentioned colour accuracy. Mine is absolutely awful out of the box. I covers a very wide gamut but I had to borrow a calibrator from my work to get it to be accurate. It was basically unusable for content creation when I first got it. Way too saturated and very red

Its a shame they eliminated the 1650 Ti and didn't replace the choice with a 1650 Super ie the Intel Xe graphics at least. That was the configuration I got for the previous gen, and it serves me well as a productivity machine. There are reports of overheating issues as well from some reviewers and the trackpad stability in the lower-left corner and its ability to recognize clicks in the lower-left corner. Since my machine is only for casual use, I haven't encountered issues, but XPS quality is still not at the level of a MacBook and it needs to be since that is its market competition. I can promise even with the vapor chamber cooling you won't be able to access half the i9 performance due to thermal throttling.

I'm torn....as I have the Dell XPS 15' [9560]...its suffered some sort of internal damages, as I came back into my office in the den after making coffee to find wispy white tendrils of smoke coming from the rear, after rushing to disconnect that power cord from the device, tried powering it back on but nothing. took the bottom plate off and there are burn marks on the interio, now...I have this thing maxed out with a 2TB SSD 32GB of RAM and that awesome i7....I don't think I wanna "move up" to the more recent models as I believe this model I have is the last one to include the Ethernet jack. But I dunno where to send it for repairs...any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a Dell 17" Inspiron 2-in-1 7778 and though it's a bit heavy it's still running strong. I upgraded the RAM to 32gb and added an additional SSD for more storage. Dell do have load speakers compared to HP. 4 thunderbolt ports and no USB-A, yikes! Can the innards be ungradable? No numeric keypad? Why oh why!
