@@tony24-u9x "Macs have better colour accuracy" was true over 5 years ago when Windows laptop brands were too stupid to use good displays. The 30% utilisation is due the updated encoding processes by adobe, where some encoding is offloaded to the GPU, rather than being CPU focused. I will choose Dell XPS 17, because of the following reasons: 1. Screen resolution: Dell XPS(3840x2400) Macbook Pro 16(3072×1920). So Dell screen has a lot more pixels. Must be sharper. 2. SD card reader. 3. SSD upgradable, RAM upgradable. 4. Touch screen. 5. Bigger screen. 6. Better thermal system. 7. Cheaper. 8. Runs Windows natively.

BUT the mac book pro has this better than dell 1. Consistent performance plugged and unplugged 2. 16 inch and 500gm lighter than dell xps 17 3. Does not power drain when charging. 4. All their components are custom whereas dell just picks off the shelf 5. Best speakers and trackpad in the business. The magic keyboard is equally great 6. Better battery than dell xps 17 because xps has higher resolution and touch screen 7. Can run Windows or mac 8. And if your planning to do content creation. One off payment to final cut pro to use for ever. Whereas you have to pay premier every freaking month forever 9. Security chip T2 installed in mac where as dell doesn't have one 10. Mac book pro thermal is better than your dell 17 . You still hit 99c even with the vapor chamber but have higher performance than mbp16, only plugged in thought unfortunately because when you unplug it. It's 60% downhill.

Although I'm familiar with the differences I wondering what exactly a Xeon CPU and ECC memory does for you on a laptop. Unlike on servers loads what exactly do you do on a laptop where you can take advantage of this ? Regarding the quadro the drivers are more optimized for some CAD apps. However, on desktop the quadro cards come with much larger VRAM. That's not an advantage offered for mobile. Also, the GPU is clocked lower.

Talking to people who don't know better - as is the motto of this vlog - one should be much more accurate. Currently, the XPS 15 and 17, have the option of choosing the 10th gen (the MBP16 is still using 9th gen CPU's) i7 6-core AND i7 8-core CPU's. The 10th gen i9's are on their way as Dell has stated. As for upgrades, NO, 1TB is not the limit of the upgrade option. Anyone who gets either the 15 or 17, should focus on 3 things: The display they want, the CPU they want, and the GPU they want. from there, anytime in the future, about $250 gets you TWO high-quality Samsung 32GB DDR4 RAM sticks. Some of the best SSD's you can get - the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB can be had for under $300 or you can go with 4TB and now 8TB SSD's made by another brand. All of these options will bring you in cheaper than a MacBook Pro 16 with as close to similar specs as possible. One option I am considering now: XPS 17 - i7 10875H (8-core), RXT 2060, 4K UHD Touch, 1TB SSD, and 32GB RAM. current U.S. price = $2,800. Then add 2 Samsung 32GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM sticks (which I already have @ a cost of $130.00 each) Then add 2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB SSD's (which I already have @ a cost of about $385.00 each) The total price is about $3,830 for 64GB RAM and 4TB high-speed SSDs. The most similar configured MacBook Pro 16 comes in at $5,500

Great video, couple of points to mention though: -You say the top-end XPS17 isn't as powerful as the top end Macbook 16, but actually you will find that the 10th-Gen i7's are often faster than the 9th-gen i9's. Unlocked CPU's have little effect on laptop performance. Also the 2060 will run circles around the 5600M in the GPU department. -True, the CPU/GPU combo can run at full performance on the Macbook 16, but with the system drawing 100+Watts while at it, is it really usable with a laptop battery life down to 40 mins or less? I'd much rather have reduced performance that will mean longer usable life when running tasks on battery, people rarely run renders on battery anyway.

Great comparison between the two best in class laptops. I have a MBP 16 and just ordered a top spec XPS 17. Although I would love to have a single daily driver I think they both bring something unique, justifying having both if possible. The MBP 16, running at full performance on battery, is a huge advantage. The XPS 17, with a GPU supporting CUDA, is essential for some apps. I use both macOS and Windows apps and find that using a dedicated windows laptop is better than Parallels or bootcamp. For someone looking to buy a MBP 16 or XPS 17 today it's hard to overlook the fact that Apple is going through a major HW and SW transition to Arm. I'm sure it will be glorious when fully baked in two years. However, it will take a lot of patience to go through the all the growing pains for years. Creating an entirely new OS, development framework, new apps, new silicon, and potentially new chassis will require multiple iterations to iron out the kinks. Consider that even Catalina and iOS 13 had many issues and that was just an evolution of a very mature code base.
@FelixG4 жыл бұрын
Something important to keep in mind is that the equal performance whilst on battery and plugged in on the MacBook Pro is due to being it being limited to draining 100w at all times despite requiring as much as 170w at max depending on specs. The system is optimized to allocate this well between the CPU and GPU and works well. The XPS can allocate 100% on the CPU but the GPU drops around 60% on the dedicated graphics whilst on battery. This sucks for gaming and GPU rendering. I'm not sure how much the XPS 17 can drain from the battery.
@Daniel-ls1gb4 жыл бұрын
I think the best config of the XPS 17 is the one with the 2060, you can skimp on the other elements (Dell's stock RAM, Storage, and you can't really notice the difference between a 4K screen and a 1080p screen on a 17 inch display + better battery life) since you can get much faster components to install yourself - but the performance difference between the 1650 Ti and the 2060 is quite significant and a worthwhile upgrade.

Do I “need” the better GPU for photoshop? Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Quick question, on the xps 17, should one pick the 1080p ou UHD+ screen? I've heard about the trade-off for battery performance but as a photographer, I'm wondering if the higher res panel is worth it.

I’m confused what part does the 9700 refer to? Because when I look up the XPS 17 it says it has a i7- 10875h cpu?

Coming from a dell xps 15 user, go for the Macbook. Dell laptops are good but they doesn’t feel premium as the macbooks. Plus you’ll encounter a lot of problems on this dell laptops eventually especially the thermal issues and fan issues.

Hey everyday dad what Dell XPS would you suggest buying if size is not an issue? I just don't know which Dell XPS is worth it the 15 or 17 inch. I will use it mostly for Photo editing and every now and then gaming. Does the Vapor chamber really make a massive difference in cooling?
@brotherbrat134 жыл бұрын
Something of note that you may want to get out there; There is a hidden configuration of the XPS 17. If you head on over to Dell's website and click "XPS For Business" instead of for Home / Student, you get a new mid-tier XPS 17 with RTX 2060 graphics paired with the 1080ish screen, Core i7 - 10875H, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It's most likely the config that I'm going to purchase and it's much cheaper then the "base" 2060 version that you can get when looking as a "Home" consumer.

It's all great until you run Serato DJ Pro, for some reason even the fastest Windows 10 machines have this noticeable lag :s, haven't had a chance to try the XPS 17, I currently have an MSI P65 Creator and the lag is there. Have you had a chance to test this?

Just got my dell xps 17. Beautiful BUT....I edit videos. I use external drives for a lot of them. Before even installing my programs I tried to connect my samsung ssd drives with my usb c cables. IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THEM. Work around is to first plug in the little dongle thingy that comes with it and then plug in the SSD. If there are two things, one that is not the ssd and the other the ssd, then it will recognize the SSD. You can then unplug other things and leave in the SSD. But the SSD alone will not be recognized or only recognized intermittently. Bummer because I really like the laptop but this is really not worth the over 4g I paid. My external drive that is not an ssd plugged in will be recognized, even with a usb c. But it will suddenly lose the connection in the middle unless there is another "lesser" thing plugged in (like a flash drive with the dongle thing) plugged in as well. Spent hours on support today and they don't know. But I did find the exact same problem on their web site comments. Anyone else have this?

How smoothly does Adobe lightroom, photoshop, Illustrator run in the Dell XPS 15? And also regarding gaming, how is the performance while playing games like CS: Go, Fortnite, GTA V, DOTA 2, FORZA HORIZON 4(sharing experience of any game would do)? Can we say it is a mediocre gaming laptop? Can anyone vouch for it? It would really be helpful.

I think the choice will be between OSX and Windows as machines are very similar: thin, with horrible portability (only Thunderbolt ports) and of premium build. I have MB Pro 16 for work and thermals are not great, unless I use cooling pad

Update: XPS 17...I was really hoping to love this ...I received this not more than 24 hours ago...and it’s going back. You can’t open the laptop with a thumb, I had to turn it on it’s side and use both hands. But what the real reason for the return , was the display , I spent a little over two hours on the phone with Dell Pro Support to try and fix the display, when viewing Netflix , Hulu Amazon Prime, everybody looked very red orange in color . The technician could not fix it and his guess was there was something wrong with the graphics card? But he recommended to return the laptop for a full refund. Too many issues I’ve been reading about with Dell and spending sooooo much time on the phone trying to correct issues. I’m going back to what I know...MacBook Pro 16....I’ll never stray again.
