Delonghi Dedica 680/685 Steam Wand 'Steamer' Fix

Got used one, guy claims he barely used the milk steamer so he didn't know it was not working. Same symptoms. Impossible to start descaling, or reset to factory defaults. I suspected it might be something with the knob sensor and this video made me go and open it. Before disassembly I tested by putting inward pressure on the valve, but that didn't work. After opening it didn't take long to find the issue; One of the wires on the valve switch became undone, probably caused by vibration. Reconnected it and it works like charm! Thank you

My Deloghi Dedica 685 was malfunctionning, same way as exposed in this video, so I opened it like you showed how. Turns out, milk came up *in* the machine for some reason and that's why the little white knob linked to the milk steamer's pump wasn't budging. I took a tiny brush and I gently took off the milk residue, now it's working fine! Thank you so much for your video, even though I didn't need to put resin, your video really helped, it showed me how to open the top part. Really helpful and well explained!

Thanks--this fix worked for me also! I did want to add that, in trying to diagnose the problem with my machine, pinching the top of the machine did not get the steam wand to activate. Since my machine had the rest of the symptoms of yours, I went ahead an opened mine up and confirmed that it had the same problem. Bottom line: if the steam switch on a Dedica isnt working, it's worth trying this fix (especially since a repair will involve opening up the machine anyway).

Thank you so much! I was able to determine the issue on my Dedica - I accidentally pulled the knob away when cleaning. I pushed it back and works like new again.

sounds like they still have the faulty design! You should get it replaced under warranty if possible or did you make the fix ?

Nope. Only descaling turns off the orange light. The machine will still produce hot water etc, but not as efficiently. Contact Delonghi support.

Ask Delonghi. but I doubt you need to change it, just use it to heat and froth at the same time.

try holding in the micro switch with a pen tip or similar, as it may appear that it is still engaged.

I have a similiar Problem. When i steaming Milk it switch after 2 or 3 seconds into an Other Mode. The Other two buttons starts to blink and the steamer gets weaker until it stops. Then i can push on the steamer Button again and steam my milk for about 2 or 5 seconds. And the same procedure happens. I tried to squeeze the machine like you in the beginning but it wont work. You have and other Tips?

seems like the same problem shown in this video. Try to take the top off and see if the micro switch is engaging properly. Good luck

I have an issue with my machine I was wondering if you have an idea what’s happening. I go to steam, but the steam goes out the group head rather than the steam wand. The water stops at the connector but doesn’t go up to the other side of the connector to the steaming function. I know this because the tube on the left of the connector gets hot but the tube on the right that goes to the steaming function does not get hot. Do you have any advice for my issue?

Really contact Delonghi support, but I suspect you need to investigate why the line to the steamer is blocked.

I think a lot of people are getting this issue. Just bought Amazon second hand Dedica Arte (with metal steam wand) and the steam just stops like on your video. I'll disassemble it asap, might give a try repairing it, or I will return it to amazon. The number of amazon second hand dedicas listed on the website is really enormous.

If it's within warranty I would return it for a replacement. Sadly, it seems that the part in question, the Steam valve, is particularly prone to failure.

That sounds like the 'normal' pump action of the device. Nothing to worry about if steam is emanating from the wand.

It's not a very good design is it. I also have to turn my machine upside down to get the on off switch to engage. Another thing I learnt on KZbin 😕 I won't be buying another one!

Have you tried taking the casing off and looking at the ON/OFF switch. It's harder to do as you need a safety Torx driver. Mine has been fine since the fix shown here and that's been about 3-yrs now.

These things suck! Seriously suck. This is the second delongi machine I've encountered at other people's houses and how terrible can it be? My 30 year old krups machine works like a charm to make a latte and steam milk but these POS are expensive, cheaply made and.... don't steam? I have to watch an entire tutorial and go through all this to get a latte? I got a cup full of diluted hot milk. This shouldn't happen. I bought this machine for my daughter just a couple years ago, what a waste of money. Please go back to simple, easy one turn thing that changes the direction of the water, like my machine. No f'ing bells and whistles that easily break and i have to spend all morning fooling around with this piece of crap without the benefit of my morning coffee. Don't buy these people.

this is a video to help people if their steam wand stops working. If you're getting hot diluted milk you need to use the correct sequence to deliver steam rather than hot water.

@@HelpfulPhilI am not complaining about your video, you are helping people who want to fix their sucky machines. I'm saying I prefer a machine that doesn't need all this tweaking and fixing, like my old faithful that has a single boiler, and a knob that you turn one way to make the heated water through the coffee or another to divert to the steam nozzle. Super simple, never failed in 30 years. Compared to the de longi, the espresso wasn't hot, and the icons have rubbed off anyway so you can't even see what's what. I tried all manner of variations of where to put the lever, and waited for all buttons to stop blinking. I stand by that this machine sucks and is not worth the $.

it attaches with a bayonette fitting. Push it up and twist left, then pull down on it to check it's in place.
