great video - I've never done soldering or electronics to this degree but just bought the part and a little soldering kit 🤞I don't explode ;) I'm assuming it's the same issue as I pulled it all apart and the fan goes but the compressor doesn't seem to do anything - the dehumidifier itself is also 9 years old and hasn't been used for 7 years but was used extensively before that - cheers again. Edit to add - my little soldering kit and the component arrived, and thanks to this video I swapped out the part (the board and parts were a bit different looking than this video but it was obvious which was the part that needed changing) and it fired up no problem at all and it's now busy drying out my car after getting damp over winter :D awesome, thanks very much

Great video! - thanks for uploading - you must have saved quite a few dehumidifiers from landfill 👏 The fault finding and explanation of the circuit board was very informative although I wasn’t confident to power up my board with 240v on the bench. My capacitor had almost an identical value to yours when it was removed and measured with a multimeter, like so many others l ordered a £3.98 replacement on-line and my dehumidifier is back up running better than ever 😊 Thanks again - much appreciated.

Great video thanks! Had it for 10 years and only now found the air filter from the video. It was solid with dust. I took the front cover off as well and found a thin layer of dust on the fins too. I found if you don't need to repair the top panel you can slip a screwdriver under the sides of the handle without removing the panel or the handle. Most important, though, was to see where the coolant pipes were before opening it, damaging them while opening the case would be catastrophic.

Very useful video. I have a DeLonghi dehumidifier with a pump, to pump the condensate up against gravity, and it has the same symptoms. The fan runs but the compressor doesn't. I'm inspired by your video to troubleshoot the controller. I'm an electrical engineer with alot of analog circuit design experience, so I have no qualms about probing around the PCB to find the problem. Thank you very much for your video. The "autopsy" of the capacitor was very interesting. It's kind of interesting because I just repaired my A/C condenser unit, which had a failed dual startup capacitor. It should have been 45 uF & 7.5 uF, but both capacitors measured virtually no capacitance. The top end of the cylindrical capacitor was very corroded. My son and I located and purchased a new 45 uF + 7.5 uF capacitor today. We took a picture of the old capacitor, showing the wires connected to it and then disconnected and removed it. Then we installed the new capacitor. After putting the covers back on the condenser unit, we applied power and set the thermostat to Cool. The compressor and fan came on and the A/C system cooled the house down gradually.

Check the starter thermistor / switch on the compressor. A very common failure.
@johnclark1731
@johnclark1731 3 жыл бұрын
I checked the compressor thermistor switch. It was open. I bypassed the switch and then turned the dehumidifier on. It ran for about 10-20 seconds and then the basement circuit breaker popped. I tried it twice with the same result. After the second time I touched the side of the compressor and practically burned my finger!!! Before I turned the dehumidifier on, I measured the resistance of the compressor. It was 2.6 Ohms. I figured that was too low and that the compressor would draw too much current. Since the compressor is bad, I guess I'll buy another dehumidifier. Thanks for your help. Earlier today, I was thinking that maybe the compressor was just low on refrigerant. But now it seems like it has failed. Do you agree?

The compressor kicks in when i have it on the dial and on the mains, but if i switch it off on the dehumidifier dial and back on only the fan comes on, and ideas?
@razenby
@razenby 5 ай бұрын
The dial is a humidity or dryness of the air setting. If it is working properly when the set humidity is reached (or you turn down the control) the compressor stops first and after a while the motor stops too. If you turn the power off and back on there is a delay turning the compressor on. The delay is to allow the high pressure side of the pump to lose pressure (equalization of pressure on both sides of the pump). If you switch the pump on with full pressure on the high side it will not start as the torque will be too low. That is why.

Impressive skills. I have one of these which is playing up, it's producing water, but the switching seems to be faulty, the fan keeps starting up for about 1 second then stops, then starts again briefly then stops. It used to just run a normal cycle for 10mins then stop for a while and repeat. Prior to this problem one of the switch noises was getting louder, maybe it's a micro switch which has gone.

Ahh that's a shame. Obviously make sure that the plugs are all in. Inspect the connector are in correctly and they look good and no wires have poked out. Does it react when you pull out the water tray? I have never seen one with a bad compressor but there is always a first time. Are both the fan and compressor running? If the compressor is running (some vibration of the compressor unit) you can check if there is gas cycling within by feeling around the output pipe of the compressor. It should be warm. Again if the compressor is running one side of the heat exchanger should be very cold. If you cant feel the warmth or the coldness in the pipes and the compressor is running then it has leaked out the refrigerant or the pump has failed in some way. Where do you live?

If you have all the parts of the tank , you can bond it with a solvent adhesive. If it is just cracked you can seal it with silicone adhesive,. The stuff designed for fish tanks works best. They all seem to be cracked. I think they are just normal acrylic plastic. It is shame they didn't make them from Polycarbonate.

@razenby
@razenby 3 жыл бұрын
There are 2 versions that look the same from the outside. The older one has a larger round compressor and run quietly. The newer version has a smaller rectangular compressor that makes a lot more noise. You can easily check If you have this issue as the water trays are a different shape and are not interchangeable. Run side by side in the same room the older unit with the large compressor will collect a lot more water (at least twice as much). It is unclear if the newer ones ever performed as well as the old. My gut feeling is that they are inferior. I have seen 2 of these newer units and both were noisy and less effective especially at lower ambient air temperature (6 to 10 degrees). If the compressor is running and the pipes get cold then you have a compressor failure or refrigerant gas gas has escaped and you will need to replace the compressor or get it reg-gassed.

@@razenby Now that you mention it, there's indeed a difference in the water trays and I do recall the larger one is the newest model.
