Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Delonghi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker. Link to Delonghi EC 155 Espresso and Cappuccino Maker: amzn.to/1Euayiv It measures 10.5 inches tall by 7 inches wide and 9 inches deep. It is very small when comparing it to standard espresso makers. Since this might be the first espresso machine for many of you that are watching, I will give you as much information as I can so it’s easier to use. Link to Frothing Pitcher: amzn.to/1O25Ic4 Link to Shot measuring glasses: amzn.to/1JuXet3 Link to Espresso Coffee: amzn.to/1O25Po3
Link to Cups: amzn.to/1Fa86Zg
This is not like a keurig where you put a pod in, push on and it’s done. There is a little more that’s involved but after you make a cup or two, it’ll be very easy.
The housing is plastic with some steel accents.The unit comes with a detailed instruction manual, metal filter holder, large stainless steel filter for 2 cups ground coffee, small stainless steel filter for 1 cup ground coffee or pods and a plastic scoop to measure coffee. The filter drops right into the holder, just match up the notch. Open the water tank lid and you’ll find the plastic water tank that holds 33 ounces to the max fill line. It is removable for easy cleaning. Make sure you push the tank down otherwise the valve on the bottom won’t open and you’ll have no coffee. You can store the small filter here when you’re not using it. If you look carefully, you can see the water line here.
This is the steam/hot water tube with cappuccino frother attached. You’ll use this to froth your milk for cappuccinos and lattes. It can also deliver plain hot water. The knob to control steam is on top of the unit. Rotate counterclockwise to adjust the amount of steam. When you’re milk is ready, turn the knob clockwise and turn the unit to off. You should use cold milk. I use whole milk which comes out great and the manual recommends skim milk.
The unit has two separate thermostats, one to control the water temperature and one for the steam.
The boiler is stainless steel and durable. The unit is self priming so there is no start up preparation for you to do. The drip tray is removable. This is the built in tamper.
This unit is about $100 or less and I feel an exceptional value. You can make really good espressos, cappuccinos and lattes at home pretty quickly. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money constantly drinking at cafes, this is a good option for you. I’ve put the link to the Delonghi and accessories in the description below. I hope this review helped you and if it did, please give this video a thumbs up. Subscribe for more reviews and I’ll see you next time.

I've been using one of these machines for about 4 years. This is an excellent review and addresses many issues which people seem to have with this machine. If you have access to a Bunn coffee grinder at your grocery store, the best grind is the courser of the two espresso grinds. The finer grind will take forever to drip through! If you don't have a thermometer for your milk, after a while you will notice a change in the sound of the milk being frothed. This change seems to happen right at 140°. I am able to froth 6oz of milk in about 60 sec. The little black frother end screws off for cleaning. I have also, on occasion, used a thin wire to clean the two small holes in this piece as milk might clog it after a while. I don't mind that the frother swings back toward the machine as I can use this feature to help prop the pitcher in place while the milk is frothing. The ability to deliver hot water through the frother in order to make an americano is nice also.

I'm like you, I use whole milk. Some say it's harder to froth whole milk but the difference in taste is well worth it. With the proper practice, you can get whole milk to froth just as well as with skim 2% or 1%, I find that I get more micro froth using whole milk than what I get at Starbucks or other coffee shops.

Espresso is weak because the grounds we're not compressed enough prior to brewing. I have this machine and you have to really press the grounds extremely hard to create enough resistance of water flow through the grounds in order to get a strong pull with good crema. Great review though very precise and well done

I don't think that built in tamper helps matters. They removed it on the newer version of this same machine.
@ronaldcarmona5485
@ronaldcarmona5485 5 жыл бұрын
The instruction manual says to use light pressure to tamp the coffee in the basket. You do not have to " press really hard " to fill the coffee basket properly. It's not a professional machine for goodness sake. Just make sure you do the basics properly; right fineness of grind, and use the measuring spoon that comes with it to put 2 level TBSP of coffee in the basket and your drink will be good.
@ronaldcarmona5485

It's a pressurised portafilter. You are not supposed to create resistance by tamping the coffee in too hard.

Nicely done presentation. This machine gets the job done. Producing a decent shot of espresso with minimal investment. Easy to use and maintain. Being a preasuruzed system the grind isn't critical. If you want to up your game the best way is to obtain a burr grinder. For a little over $100 there are several quality grinders available. We recently bought the Baratza Encore. For $139 I'm soundly impressed with it's performance. Our every day brew is pour over. We also like the French press and from time to time we like the Moka pot. The Encore delivers for all these methods. It's not specifically an espresso grinder but it gives you a decent shot of espresso from this machine.

Sorry to tell you, but your espresso shots are very poor. It seems that the ground coffee you are using is way too coarse for this machine, you can tell from the transparency of your shots and the lack of crema. The reason you can't pull the portafilter all the way is because you are using too much coffee. Try using more finely ground coffee.
@Susazeu
@Susazeu 6 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's too fine.
@RichardMacLean
@RichardMacLean 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those were bad. I think the grind is too fine. Also, she needs a tamper. Not tamped enough. Also, it does matter that the handle isn't turned to the middle. You want a good seal there. The shots should have emulsions that make it look almost creamy. That just looked like drip coffee.
@matthunt9241
@matthunt9241 5 жыл бұрын
Richard MacLean it’s a pressurised basket so tamping isn’t that important
@RichardMacLean
@RichardMacLean 5 жыл бұрын
@@matthunt9241 Not pressurized when it's not closed all the way. Also, they built a tamper into the machine because it does matter. I have the newer version of this machine and the shots change based on how tamped the grounds are. So, I respectfully disagree.
@matthunt9241
@matthunt9241 5 жыл бұрын
Richard MacLean Richard MacLean the tamper on this machine is flimsy because a pressurised basket is more forgiving, so the grind size and tamping pressure is not as vital, therefore a more sturdy tamper is not required. The amount of the tamping pressure will still change how the shot comes out, but you could still get a fairly decent shot with a weak tamp. I think the main problem with the shots pulled in this video is the pre-ground coffee, you’ll never get an even half decent crema until you grind the beans fresh. So I think we might have to agree to disagree. (Also fair point about it not being pressurised when the portafilter isn’t locked in properly)

sorry but you shouldn't measure the amount of espresso by look, for a good shot the espresso needs to weigh 18g before and it should come out of the machine at 27 seconds. The after weigh should be 36g, i hope this helps!
@ronaldcarmona5485
@ronaldcarmona5485 5 жыл бұрын
I disagree with those specs. This is not a professional machine, it's easier to use than that. Yes you should judge your output by the volume. It's easier that way. And if you tell people their shot is wrong if it doesn't come out in 27 seconds and weigh 36 grams they're going to get all fouled up with it. Taste and practice. Grind and measure carefully and your drinks will come out good.

She tamps the coffee much too hard. It should be tamped firmly but no pressed. Use about as much pressure as you would press down while writing with a felt tip pen. This will allow the water to flow through the coffee more easily, thus giving you a sweeter brew with more crema.

Hi. Thanks for a very good review but the only drag I have is the crema on the espresso, it is awful. It should look like a dutch beer with a large top of drama. I used the Charles Jacobs and for the price was very impressed BUT I feel that the crema was not achieved for the simple fact that you didn't seal it correctly and so did not achieve the desired 15bar of pressure required for crema. Cheers

I think it is in part due to using pre-ground coffee beans. That is what it looked like anyway. Different types of beans also give off different crema. I get a pretty decent crema off my shots using this machine..so its possible...

The newer version of this machine fixed everything that is wrong with this one. 1) They moved the frother to the right side so it doesn't get in the way of the filter handle. 2) Not as much vibration 3) Faster heat time (I'd say about three minutes). I grind my beans and fill my milk pitcher and it's ready. 4) They include a tamper/scoop now instead of that silly built in one. 5) Best of all the lower drip tray assembly is removable for larger cups. They did a nice job remodeling this machine.

This is a cheap machine, does not mean good. The shots are decent but with no Crema, and the tamper is attached to the machine which is quite inconvenient

I have to admit it is the worse coffee machine I had.Coffee is absolutely dead if you know what you mean.Espresso tastes like dirty water,completly flat,only plus is very strong steamer which makes nice frothed or creamed milk if you like to drink milk before bed because coffe is not drinkable...

Salut comment augmenter la chaleur de cette machine???
@jabba2937

Salut, Youssuf!

Trouble is they wont last long because they are made in China, maybe 6 months then it will go south. Thats the problem, German is the best option for a coffee machine but they are loads more wad. I brought one but bottled and took it back, I knew the problems that were brewing up 😁😁😂😂😛😛
