People keep asking me how large the pucks are on the new DeLonghi Rivelia. Here is a video showing five trials of dried, ejected and weighed doses.

Hey Is it normal that machine ejects water into coffe grounds container? I bought this machine and every time i turn it on or of it lets a little bit of water into container. Delonghi dinamica doestn't do that, and keeping container clean is much easier. I am just wondering if this is only this model "feauture" or i have faulty unit.

@@jaco9204 Same thing happens to mine and also the demo models i saw at the store. For what its worth i contacted customer service and showed them the pictures - they said it is normal for these new models as the brew unit is a new design. Not sure whether that translates as "the quality of the new machines are worse".

Great that you checked it. I asked Delonghi about it and they claim that for recipes 2x espresso and flat white it should be 14g maximum, for all other recipes it should be 11g on the strongest setting. The doppio+ recipe is 15g maximum, and their brewing group can hold 16g of coffee. In these measurements, some water actually got in and it showed 14g, so I guess Rivelia is not fully using the possibilities of this brewing group :(

Yes! That's what I put in my Dedica basket for a double shot using a manual grinder. So, I don't think super automatic is for me

I don't think you need to turn it off, on the magnifica start, I just press the espresso button again after it grinds and it just cancels the brew and ejects the ground coffee. One thing I noticed though, when I removed the brew group and checked inside, there was some ground coffee all over the place, including on the group guidance , so it's probably not a good idea to do this as it can cause harm. Also, there is at least a couple of grams of that ground coffee stuck in there, so meajuring the ejected one is not accurate, at least the first time. edit: I measured 13g on espresso and then I measured 14g on doppio+, but I think they are exactly the same and there was more of the ground coffee stuck inside from espresso, since I did that first. There was a little bit of water on a side, but I absorbed it with a paper towel before measure.

I think you should make the machine complete the process, and dry the coffee grounds after

These machines adjust grind time based on tamp pressure so there is no point doing this as the weight will vary.

@@zappybazinga8124 I’m pretty sure it’s time based. I measured the time on each of the five trials, and it came out to the same each time, a hair under 10 seconds.

@@zappybazinga8124Hmm, I haven’t noticed any variation in the Rivelia, although I have noticed some fluctuation in the Dinamica Plus, particularly after using the bean adapt feature. I’ll have to keep it in mind, however.

Try killing the power at the wall socket at the end of the grind cycle. Then perform a switch-on - this should reset the brew group and eject and old grounds (dry).
