I'm glad to see a pro do this, rather than just replace the whole unit. Bravo! I did this on my Dodge Ram and did a video to help others. It was a little more work than I expected it to be, but everything turned out OK. Most of my difficulty was finding the right parts, since there are many designs even from the same manfacturer.

Great camera work and attention to detail. Top notch job Rich. Again, you make it look so easy.

You make it look so simple, that is the difference when you are dealing with a professional. Just had an idea, you could open a store and have people come in wiht their cars and you direct them to make the repairs, everyone wins!

So good to have pullers and a press to hand, makes it so much nicer to do the job :-) As usual you make it look like a walk in the park :-)

I had to replace an open coil on a 2000 Saturn SL and would say it took well over 150 lbs of force to pull the pulley off but I didn't put my 3 jaw puller on the shaft for fear of destroying the seals or insides of the compressor. I'm not a professional mechanic but using the main compressor shaft to remove or install the pulley doesn't seem like a good idea.

Replacing the compressor is a viable alternative.

HI nice video, I am currently trying to replace a very similar type of clutch and pulley, and Im having trouble sourcing a a/c removal tool, the kits retail here at about £30-£100 but I only need the removal too as I have bought a complete second hand a/c pump and intend to swap the bearing and pulley assembly ( it was cheaper) what is the removal tool called and what are the dimensions or exact description of the tool as I dont want to pay for a full kit , Any help would be great Thank you
@AlwaysHopeful8710 жыл бұрын
I removed the magnet too. Made a mistake. There is a snap ring, not the one richpin showed, inside the hub that u can see after you take the pulley off (8:49). That snap ring doesn't have to be remove to take off the magnet.

Thanks, my 04 Astro needs this. A/C shop quoted $700 for a new compressor installed. Said with 180k miles the compressor will fail soon and to replace the compressor not just the bearing. Your thoughts? My compressor is on top, much easier access for me than this car. Bug plow is getting a workout this year!
@RichpinTv9 жыл бұрын
I would check the price of a new one on Amazon they are very reasonable.Yes the bug plow,snowblower and my chevy K20 are getting a work out this winter.
@binnsh9 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Still think I'll go with just the bearing. Parts store offer free rental of the puller, and I don't have to open the lines. We'll see how long the pump keeps going.
@binnsh9 жыл бұрын
binnsh Went with just the new $20 bearing three months ago, but didn't get the gap right; clutch would not engage. Adjusted the gap by trial and error yesterday (discs were too scored up or a eeler gauge), success. Thanks!
@binnsh9 жыл бұрын
binnsh The $20 chinese bearing failed in 5 months, damaged the magnet too. Just put in a $120 clutch and magnet kit, we'll see how long it lasts. A new compressor doesn't seem so expensive now.

hello richpin06a, at the first...great job. could you tell me one thing, please? when you start to use the special tool to remove clutch (time 6:27), what is outside diameter and thread of it?
@twolungking11 жыл бұрын
cant you just replace the pulley with a new bearing inside seems like a lot of extra work grinding those rivets down just to install the bearing inside. Just saying for the do it your selfer.is the pulley really expensive or something ? I dont get it. I really like your videos by the way.

I have his compressor on a grand am. The clutch is noisy when the a/c is not on. The bearing seems good as does the gap but I can rattle the clutch face by hand. It's very noisy. Do the clutch "springs" just wear out? It looks ok.
@robertgary35619 жыл бұрын
Btw following the FSM flow chart for noisy A/C it says everything is fine. A/C works fine but sounds like a can rattling around when A/C off.

Sve je OK samo vadjenje lezaja iz remenice bez alata nije uredu posto remenica moze da iskoci iz centra i da se osteti.

Who's Barron?
@ristosavic7111 жыл бұрын
Everything is OK self extracting bearings from the pulley without tools is wrong percent pulleys that can jump out of the center and that it is damaged.
