I was a 16 year old white girl when I first heard this kind of music.the music is still here in my life.im 68 still here listening,my kids have said to me if it weren't for mum we would never have known this music.going to Leeds West Indian Carnival August Bank Holiday,Been going there since All them years ago.Thank you for all you beautiful black people,how could I have ever listen to your music.so much respect

I thought I was the only one who felt like this. Never had the courage to express my views before. But sorry can't call what has been happening in recent years music - don't care what the genre is, most of is not pleasing to listen to. Apart from a few, reggae is in crisis right now.

@@stantonio4614 No comparison necessary we once had the cream now we have dross calling itself music. Genre makes no difference the stuff coming out today has taken us backwards. The reliance on computer generated music is killing the skill Reggae had with our gifted players of instruments.

When I was a kid growing up me and my buddies used to sit around listening to the feelin high reggae anthology. Great stuff on there! They were making great reggae out of almost anything back then.

This is simply one of the greatest things ever recorded. It strikes me as the kind of thing that if you played it for a Jamaican who had emigrated abroad in the '70s, he or she would break down in tears. Hats off to Bob Andy for the idea and Sylvan Morris for the recording. Genius.

Remember buying Sarge at the time of its release in the summer of 1977, and particularly loving this track. Brings back some fond memories. You don't even have to hear Tom Paxton's original to know Delroy's mournfully emotive vocal and stellar Lloyd Chalmers production far surpasses it. Great post!
