I loved working on the 757. Their NWA numbers were 5537 & 5538. The 757 was IMHO the best jet Boeing ever built.

Boeing never developed a B-757 true replacement She was arguably the best narrow-body aircraft ever made by Boeing I believe this shows how Boeing lost its way long time ago

The main reason for it stopping production was a lack of interest at the time, if they waited a bit longer they could've rolled off a couple more

It’s like how Boeing made the 3 best widebodies of all time - the 747,767, and 777. Yet they have failed to replace any of them . They can’t even finish the new 777
@thetruthbehindplanes

the 787 is also cool. I hope they get the new 777x out by mid 2026. It is way better than the A35K. AND it was a lack of interest in 757. The 737 MAX 10 is not a good replacement. But the 320 is NEVER a good replacement.

An aspect that should be added here is "family". Boeing had a kind of a "spark of innovation" when they co-engineerd the flight desks of the 757 and 767, which was later valued sadly by nobody else than - the 9/11 terrorists! But Airbus then came up with the full A320 family, of which the longest version could (then nearly, later fully) match the capacity of the 757-200, while pilot pools and maintenance crews could also serve all smaller 'busses in the same operating systems. One example: When AMERICAN AIRLINES took over US AIRWAYS in 2013, the latter had already 243 Airbus Narrowbodies in their fleet, including a whopping 90 A321s, with 31 more on order. They also had 24 units of the 757-200, but that was a small legacy fleet of an already discontinued type that had first been sidelined by the customers and then abandoned by its manufacturer.

To me, the best narrow-body aircraft made by Boeing was the 727-200, but the 757 is good, too.

@@hanj31 well both companies are based in the usa , so they naturally would keep the same tail numbers for instance if Qantas sold OQA and OQB to Virgin Australia then they would still be OQA & OQB

Most airlines in the US do it. US Airways tails from before the merger with America west sport US and sometimes UW with America west tails retaining AW to this day. Alaskas ex Virgin America A321Ns are the only ones I can currently think of that have changed tail numbers

Who knows why these 2 have been singled out, but I wonder if they suffered some "semi significant" damage in their past like a tail strike or fuel or catering truck encounter, and the repairs made then are showing wear.

They are gonna replace it with the a321. Good fit in terms of capacity . Terrible for performance . We will never have a plane like the 757 again , just like we won’t have a 777 or a 747/a380 like airplane again.
@thetruthbehindplanes
@thetruthbehindplanes 19 сағат бұрын
they will.If you think there is never room for improvement,there is. Just like no one thought 727 would be improved,but it was with 757. Boeing has learned a lesson on constant upgrading. The MAX will be the final generation. The 797 will replace the 737 and 757.I also see a 7107(it's icao iata whatever will be 7X1,7X2,whatever,my thinking.) The 7107 will replace the 777,747 and 787.I do not think they will build a 2nd gen of 787,too much outsourcing.I feel the 787 was a great plane,ruined by mcnerney's vision of outsorcing parts.The 7107 will have in sourcing mostly. Then there will be a 808,being a regional jet and replacing 717. All these will be designed together,just like Boeing did with 767 and 757,and airbus with A340 and A330. So 717-808 727-757-797 737-797 747-7107 757-797 767-787-7107 777-7107 787-7107 So this is my hypothesis.

@thetruthbehindplanesthe 757/767 size group is in most desperate need of a successor . Airbus is trying and Boeing tried with the 787-8 and the 737max but they are not the right aircraft . In service Boeing planes can be broken into a few groups: 737/717 747/777 757/767 787 The 787 is in a class of its own and a replacement for it would have to be like it, and also in-sourcing is incredibly difficult, by the way the 777 is made of mostly imported parts . The mega widebodies like the 777 , 747, and on the airbus side the a380 have gone nearly extinct . But thier purpose is becoming more and more needed again as travel demand rises . That’s why the 777X is being worked on but even that’s not gonna be big enough . The 757/767 is probably going to see the 797 whatever it is replace it . The 737 just needs to go , comeplte new design as it’s just an airframe that’s too old for the time .
