Levenger is a retailer and they're the only ones that carry their pens. Funny you should ask, though, I was just in their store last week and checked out some of their pens. They didn't blow my mind, but I wasn't disappointed either. I think they're appropriately priced and write pretty well.

That's a No. 16 Rhodia dotpad, with 80g white paper. I use it a lot, big fan here.

Probably not. Flex pens take a bit of practice getting used to them, and you usually need to write slow to use them effectively. They also put down a lot of ink on the paper, which can cause major feathering/bleeding issues on cheap paper (which is usually what you deal with in school!). Because it puts down so much ink, it can also take a while for the ink to dry, which may not do well in a note-taking situation.

I know, right? It's not because it's a small nib, you can see it's as big as any of the other pens I show (#6 nib size), it just looks small b/c that grip section is massive!

ah, cool. If I'm not mistake though, that's a proprietary Cross converter right? In the video I was talking specifically about wanting to see screw on converters with more standard international pens like the Delta.

Very cool! From what I understand TWSBI is supposed to be coming out with something similar to the traveling ink pot for the VAC-700, but it's still in prototyping phase.

It depends on where you go to school, and how much you have to worry about it. The same goes for anyone in the workplace too, having pens stolen from people around you is always a concern, no matter where you are!

Sorry that this is off topic but I have a burning question for you. As far as the Pelikan FP goes, if you were choosing all black color would you go with gold trim or silver trim? I have to commit to the pen tomorrow so if you could get back to me quick I would sincerely appreciate the help!

Well you definitely wouldn't want to bring a Dolce Vita, that's for sure! ;) One of the most solid and reliable fountain pens that's also a great value is the Platinum Preppy. It's only $4 one of the cheapest around, but it works well and you don't have to worry too much if you do lose it or have it stolen. Another great pen is the Lamy Safari, it's a little more (close to $30) and would probably need a little closer guarding from potential thieves, but it's a reliable and enjoyable pen.

Visconti pens have threaded converters too :-)

The mid-size version here would be $436, but there's a smaller and larger version of this pen that change price accordingly. I wouldn't recommend converting this to an eyedropper, because there are metal parts inside the pen that wouldn't be good to have sitting in ink all the time...

Thanks so much. Do you think a flex pen would be alright to use for everyday use at school? even for like taking notes and such?

I am referring to picking the Pelikan black in 800 (gold) or 805 (silver) below.

It depends. If you like the way a flex pen writes, then it works okay (especially because most don't flex under normal writing pressure). I wouldn't recommend a flex pen as a first or second pen. I find that finer pens are usually better for my notetaking (of course, I'm writing in a lot of books with really crappy paper, because I'm an English major), but it's really all a matter of personal preference. You know better what you would like.

This Delta Dolcevita looks awfully similar to the Conklin Duragraph orange night pen!

Brian, I am a high school student and a huge fan of fountain pens. I love writing with then and I want to use one at school, but im worried that a nice fountain pen would be ruined, stolen or lost. Im interested in buying a pen that is reliable and cheap. I like the noodlers ahab and i want to get a few more ideas. What is your thinking? Btw i love your videos and keep up the fabulous work!

Okay, I just went back and read your comment about the Ahab. I've had some problems with mine unloading all kinds of ink into the cap and then vomiting it out over the table and my hands at the start of a creative writing class (which was rather embarrassing) but the Ahab, from what I can tell, is very much a "your mileage may vary" pen. If you like yours, I don't see a reason not to use it.

If i buy the preppy that is converted to eyedropper, will it already be converted or will i have the things to do it my self. Im talking about the thing were you add 2 dollars to the pen rather than buying it separate.

Hi Brian. I know you don't carry the fountain pens from Levenger, but have you heard of them or have tried their pens? They are a very nice fountain pen for the price and have a German made nib. They write very smooth. I have six of them and enjoy them very much! Thanks for you informative videos!

If you're paying the $2 extra, then you're paying us to put an o-ring on it and grease it up for you. Or you can buy the o-rings and silicone grease separately and do it yourself. I have a video on doing it, just look up "Ink Nouveau Platinum Preppy Eyedropper Conversion"
